2014-2015 University of Colorado Application Thread

Somewhere on their website they say acceptances start Oct 15th and monthly thereafter

I would agree except that multiple statements on their website have been proven to be out of date since the new dean took over. For example, the notion that you can sent update letters when you interview.

In addition, if you look at last years thread you will see that acceptances were going out roughly every two weeks or so, perhaps even more frequently in some cases.

I vote for this to happen

Me as well! A whole month in between seems a little long. But that's just my opinion. I think the committee meets twice a month so you would theoretically expect decisions to be released twice a month right?

CU-SOM MS1 here.

Just so you all don't get discouraged if you didn't hear anything yesterday. I didn't hear from CU until 4 months after I interviewed (and a few months before the April date for final decisions). Trust me the wait was torture, but I wouldn't count out an acceptance just because you haven't heard yet.

Good luck!!!

That's good to hear! Like a friend of mine told me so I kept my head up... "Tom Brady wasn't a first round pick!"

Any other IS applicants complete early August and still haven't heard back for an II? Kinda figured I would've heard back from my state school either yea or nay by now
+1 submitted late August

So I was told by CU Admissions office that I was invited for an interview after I inquired, but I never got their email to register for an interview. They are going to send it again on Monday, but if any of you have a link to the page where you sign up for the interview, I was thinking I might be able to login with my credentials and set up an interview, since I should have permission to do so. So, could anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

Does your CU status page also say that you were invited for an interview?

I'm getting a server error page when I try to log in or "find my password." I'm guessing they don't have it updated in their system that I was invited or the person that emailed me was mistaken on my status. Anyway, thanks for the help folks, I appreciate it. I'll wait to hear back from them Monday.

Just checked my II email; you get a new (different) password.

I was worried about that. Thanks for confirming.

Edit: Actually, is that new username anything I could guess? Like my AMCAS ID followed by my initials or anything like that? Or is it just random like the password they supply for the secondary application login?

It's a random password. I suppose you could guess it but it kind of depends on how good your computer hacking skills are.

Does your CU status page also say that you were invited for an interview?

I would not rely on the status page for your status. It didn't reflect that I had received an interview invite until about 2 weeks after I got the email. Though I fully understand that this knowledge will likely not stop you from checking it frequently!

Dont stress about it too much, the interviews are pretty low pressure compared to what I expected and everyone I talked to was very nice.

In order to prepare I would just do a few things.
(1) re-read your amcas statements and your secondary essay a few times and make sure you are familiar with everything you wrote, cause its been a while and these materials are what they are using to help direct their questions.

(2) get a good handle on the most basic of questions. For example, why medicine or why CUSOM or tell me about yourself.

In addition to what ski89 said, I'd say also be prepared for the typical job-interview style questions. It seemed like there were 1 or 2 "canned questions" that they had to ask, things like "How do you work in groups" or similar types of questions. Also be prepared for the occasional ethical/situational question, but by and large, I felt like they were honestly just trying to get to know me better as a person and see what I'd be like as a medical student/physician.

Know yourself, know why medicine, smile a bunch, and you'll do great.

Looks like CU recently updated their website. Under the "dates to remember" tab in admissions it now reads:

"Offers of admission are extended from October 15th through the remainder of the year on a rolling basis."

This use to say that admissions decisions are extended on Oct. 15 and monthly thereafter. I think this new statement hints that they most likely come more frequently than that (Or, I suppose, less frequently. But I doubt this is the case).

Just made my day!

Hi guys! Where did you all stay when you interviewed? I called the hotel that is across the street from the medical campus and they said they didn't have any special rate to offer and they weren't sure what I was talking about. Anyone else have any luck with that hotel giving you the Anschutz Medical Campus discount?

Anybody care to hazard a guess as to when the next string of acceptances will roll out?

I'm hoping for a week from today. My rationale being that the executive committee meets about every two weeks (per Vidal) and it was also about every two weeks that acceptances went out last year (although last year was a little screwy for CU's cycle). At the very least I would expect that some more offers go out before November.

They met on a Friday for their first one, I think. It would make sense that they met the Friday before giving out acceptances (10/10). If they meet every two weeks, then I would think this Friday! Yes? Lol 🙂 Fingers crossed!

Not sure about any hotel rates, but there's a lot of interviewees that stay with current students - it'll save you some money, we have a lot of awesome people you can stay with for the night, and it'll likely include a ride to campus the morning of your interview. If a hotel is more your thing, that's probably the best one as far as convenience goes. Best of luck!

If you get a secondary, does that mean you will get an interview? I read this on their website:

"The secondary application is an on-line process, whereby the link is forwarded to the students whose applications have been verified by AMCAS and approved by the Admissions Committee to be invited to interview."

Also, does Colorado have a large Spanish-speaking population?

That seems poorly written. No, filling out the secondary does not mean you will interview.

I take it (I hope) that the admissions committee didn't meet this past Friday. Hopefully there's another round of acceptances this coming Friday.

I like where your head is at, fathead!

Or Wednesday. Or...today? 😀

My understanding from what Mr. Dickerson told us was that the adcom meets twice a month on Fridays and acceptance go out by phone call that afternoon. The first round of acceptances went out on a Wednesday because that's when Oct. 15th fell which is the date that all schools agree to wait til to grant their first round of acceptances.
That's what I thought anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe I'm making this up..

I actually don't recall him mentioning Fridays as the meeting day (I interviewed on 10/3). I thought he said that they would meet again early the next week. I don't know... It's all a blur now. I have high hopes for the week though! Good luck everyone!
