2015-2016 Marshall University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Last year I didn't get my OOS invite until early January and didn't interview until February. They are doing most OOS interviews after the holiday break so no need to sweat it. Good look guys! Marshall is an awesome school!
Same--OOS--January invite for February interview--and I can verify that both Marshall and Doctor Rocktopus do indeed rock😉

To those accepted, I have created a Facebook Group to introduce ourselves. I understand some individuals may have multiple offers so have simply made this an acceptance group in an attempt to put together faces for the upcoming class. To those still waiting further news, hang in there and best of luck!

Hi everyone! New to SDN. I have an interview here next weekend. I'm OOS. Anyone care to share any info about the interview day? I think the interview days now are just OOS people as they've finished in state people, but I'm not sure how many will be interviewed each day. I love what I've heard about this school so far and am excited for the opportunity!

Arrive at 8am, Group Discussion/Introduction, Meet with medical students, Interview 1 on 1 with faculty, tour, end.

1) Arrive at the medical center at 8 a.m., make sure you print and bring the form you need to sign. Follow the direction in the building.

2)Cindy will greet you on second floor(?) of the building and you get a name tag and a folder with match results, applicant profiles, and general curriculum of the school. Your interviewers' names and their specialties will be on there along with your interview time.

3)The dean will show up with other two faculties. You introduce yourself to everyone in the interview group of the day. You can ask the faculties about the school.

4)Afterwards, they bring you to a conference room where you will meet with 4 medical students (their emails and names are in your folder too) They are not interviewing you so try to relax while you are in the room. They will tell you a bit more about the curriculum, school, and social life on campus.

5)They start bringing people out of the conference room for interviews. The interview is 1-1, 30-40min each. After the first interview, you go back to the conference room. You have about 5-10min between the interviews. Eat some snacks (provided) if you are hungry!

6)You get on the bus to tour the medical buildings and classrooms.

7)You get a nice drinking cup for coming. I think they meet every Tuesday? If you are accepted, you will get a phone call!

Thank you for the detailed response! How many people were in your interview group?

I'm an OOS applicant and would love to interview at Marshall!! Do you guys think all the interview dates for OOS students are done? Any chance at this point?

I just got a II today! And actually I was given every Saturday in February as an option (I went with the 20th) so they do go past the 13th! I'm not sure if they go into March, but there are definitely still spaces this month!
Congrats on your II!!! Hope to hear something soon!!

Like by end of this week??

I would imagine that the 20th is likely the last interview day, since I wasn't given any March dates. But I think that, feasibly, you could get a II up to the week of the last interview, if people withdraw at the last minute. If they are anything like WVU though, those last minute openings may go to WV residents or current Marshall students.

For those accepted, do you mind sharing your stats?

Have any of the OOS applicants heard anything yet?

During my interview, I believe they said that OOS people won't find out until on or around 3/15.

I actually just got an update email a few minutes ago!! They won't be making the final decision until late April but they narrowed the pool of OOS applicants (which I made it into!!!). They're accepting updates, via Cindy, but no word as to whether this will help increase your chances significantly.

Did any OOS applicants who got the "you made it to the April pile" letter also get a packet in the mail about financial aid? The update I got said they weren't going to decide our fates until mid to late April, so I'm not sure what getting a financial aid packet is supposed to mean.

No packet, just an email about the same time you did. Did you get the packet recently?

Yes, it was mailed to my parents and I'm assuming they got it yesterday or Monday. I was able to read through it yesterday and it looks like it was sent automatically when they got my FAFSA.

Yea haven't gotten anything since the email. Can't imagine that's a bad thing though, I'm guessing we're already on a pretty short list for open spots

Does anyone from OOS know if they've slimmed down the list for those in the April 30th pool (I.e. Rejected some OOS people that they interviewed) or if all of the OOS people will be notified of a decision that day?

I'm assuming they did from what the email said. But that 's just what I'm guessing/hoping.

From what Cindy told us at my interview day, they met in mid March to discuss all 60 or so OOS applicants. She said that this was to narrow the pool for the April 30th decisions, but she also said that most applicants make it through this meeting. I'm not sure what her definition of most is, but I would guess its 50-75%.

No word! Seems so late. I hope they have some spots left for OOS!
Yea, they weren't kidding when they said "late April", last years OOS were getting acceptances end of March.
But if you look on MSAR they said they gave 20 some OOS applicants so I'm guessing that's how many spots they left for us

Well the admissions committee meets every other Tuesday in the evening which would fall on today, so hopefully we'll hear something soon.

The letter I received said no decisions would be made until after April 30th. I would assume that you're correct in thinking that they'll discuss us today and start notifying next week.

Still nothing! My letter said "end of April" for decisions, so I'm not sure how to take this...
I talked to Cindy last week and she said that they were deciding in April and would notify us in May but I'm not sure when I'm may! I'm getting anxious with the dates getting pushed back so much!

Pretty sure today is the deadline to make a definite decision if you have more than one acceptance so I wonder if they're waiting for that to clear up the list of applicants to pick from

That's what I'm thinking. I called Friday and Cindy said they're trying to get it done this week sometime.
