2016 PHAP (Public Health Associate Program) application - General discussion thread

hi everyone! i received the initial interview email, followed up by the doodle poll and scheduled my interview. however, i just checked the PHAP online application and when i looked under "application status," it says that they are not able to offer me an interview.

is this happening to anyone else?!? i couldn't have received the interview email AND doodle poll by mistake, could i? kinda freaking out here 🙁

Yeah I haven't heard anything either. I'm holding out til Thursday. Fingers crossed!! Please let us know though!!
 
I am so nervous about this! I also got my interview email and just scheduled the Doodle date and time for Skype. I have 31 people in my 'invited' Doodle group. I do not even remember which locations I chose except that they were probably in the Western US. Does anyone have any idea about how many people are being invited to interview this year? Do we have any idea how many interviewers are involved? Our group interviews go from April 18th through the 29th. Also, to any PHAPs out there, how long did you have to wait after the interview until you heard whether you were selected or not? Good Luck Everyone!

I have not gotten an email back but I would check the status on your application.

I'm not a current PHAP, but last year I applied and received an offer (but turned it down to pursue another opportunity, so I'm applying again). I interviewed in mid-April and received an offer around June 20th, but I heard that they offered positions throughout the summer (which also makes sense since they'll probably have an initial offer list and then make offers to additional candidates as space opens when people decline offers).

I think the webpage says they won't respond to phone calls or emails due to the high volume of application. So not sure?

THATS SUPER WEIRD! I think the interviewer information is in your email. You can email them
 
After 26 hours of receiving my congratulating email , I got my email to register for the interview

Im not sure. I was inquiring about the conflicting messages with fms and receiving a interview invitation.
 
To former and current public health associates: Is it possible to go to graduate school while completing the program? Maybe get an MPH while doing the program? Has this been done before? Does the CDC program discourage this?
 
Does anyone know if there is still hope of receiving an invitation to interview? I have been holding my breath all day but wasn't lucky enough to find anything in my email. My heart is aching!

I didn't look into it, but in terms of time, it seems possible. It's just a 40 hour/week job so you'd have time to be a part time student if you manage your time well. I knew a couple of associates who were taking some night classes, but I think they were not enrolled in a degree program.
 
Just checked the application website again and my application status now reflects the interview invite I received! they must've fixed it for those of us who had the conflicting messages 😀
 
Hey guys! So you know how they said in the original interview email to "please reply to this email with your Skype username?" I did and haven't gotten a response. Just worried about if my email went through/I did it correctly. Did you all get a response when you did that or not? This is just me being overly paranoid about my email stuff I'm sure it is fine lol

I didn't get a response either.
 
Can any current PHAP speak to the interview? What kind of questions to prepare for? As well as what are the chances of having a offer made? Is it about demographic location needs or is it really based off of your personal statement and resume? I just am trying to figure out worth of waiting?
 
So I scheduled my interview time right when I got the email but I was 4 minutes late in replying with my skype name (the deadline was today 4:30 EST). I live in California and wasn't paying attention to the timezone. If I already scheduled my time on the Doodle and emailed at 4:34 EST I should be fine right??

Last year they had 5 questions and I think most of them were behavioral/situational questions if not all (check previous thread if you want). I think it's best if you can prepare some experiences/stories that you can draw on while answering these types of questions (what you encountered, how you responded, what was the result/impact?). It's definitely not really based on your personal statement/resume but you may draw experiences from those that you wrote about.

Hi again everyone,

So since the interview scheduling (Doodle) deadline has come and gone I am assuming everyone still following has been selected to interview. Based on previous PHAP threads from other years it is usually around 600 chosen to interview for around 200 or so slots. Does anyone know for sure what the numbers are this year? I kind of estimated this gives everyone more than a 30% chance and since some people will not be able to accept an offer and they will turn to alternates then the real chances may be closer to 40%. But it would help to know the numbers this year. How did people find out the number of people for the previous threads???

I just received an email that they've extended the time..perhaps some candidates did not make the cut off time due to time zone...so you should be fine. Just make sure you email them your username and email

Does anyone remember if the phase II app said anything about your regional preference being final? I'd really like to rearrange the order of my preferences of possible.

If the interviews are similar as last year, they will ask you your regional preferences again during the interview.

Is anyone also considering grad school? I applied to PHAP thinking it would be a stretch, and now I have an interview (yay!) but I also have to think about whether I want to make a deposit and secure a spot for grad school if PHAP doesn't work out. Not sure what to do- I'm equally excited about grad school and PHAP. Any advice/insight?

Did they ask the same general regions again? Or more specific (like states, etc)? Choosing regions was the most stressful part of the application for me 🙁 Glad to know they might ask again so I can be prepared and not caught on the spot haha

Nope, they only ask about general regions. In general, they only accept host site from locations that are not too obscure (in the middle of nowhere or too rural) I think. Just remember that the Northwest region include Alaska 🙂

That's why it was so hard for me! I don't even remember what I ended up doing lol. Have to think about it again I guess!

Hello! Is anyone register with Linda Kirk for a interview? I am pretty sure interviews don't start till 1/18 but I can't open it anymore. I am pretty sure it is!
 
Is there a way to find out your interview time? I signed up but forgot to write down what the exact time was... Would they remind you before the interview what the time is?

You should call them and maybe try emailing them too
 
Just finished my interview! Good Luck to all; it was pretty straight forward. 9 questions in total mostly situational type questions!! My interviewer told me that notifications go out mid July to early august!

Did your interviewer add you on Skype at the time of your interview? And was it an actual Skype video call?
