Question to all forum readers:

Now that the NRMP match registration has opened, what do we need to do to add our NRMP numbers? I don't think I can add it to my current ERAS application. Do I just need to mass email the programs I've interviewed at with the number? its annoying how ERAS closes before the match registration opens.

Not needed. They can search for you in NRMP.

Hey, anyone have information/reviews on University of Michigan, Henry Ford, and Detroit Medical Center? Couldnt find recent posts about these programs in the past few years.

Have not heard anything from these programs. I know Michigan has a lot of internal candidates.
 
I dont know if this is a good idea or not, so ignore it if it doesn't interest you, but I thought maybe it'd be worth it to know how many internal applicants there are from each program. This is by all means not 100% fact, but I've heard along the interview trail from other applicants how many applicants they had from their own programs applying. Please correct me if you've heard otherwise. I will add the ones I remember. Also, B&W is not yet added below, but I heard from one of their applicants that they have 6 this year.

Do you think if you are internal applicant you are close to a lock at your home program? It's obviously an advantage, but just wondering how much of a bonus it really is?

All places I had interviewed at had at least 50% of the fellows from their residency program, few were 100%. Unofficially, my home fellowship program ranks internal candidates before even considering anyone from the outside. Maybe 5 outside of program candidates had matched into the fellowship program in the last decade. Probably not very different in other programs.

It depends on the applicants and the program, but in general you should always get an invite if you're internal.

You aren't guaranteed a fellowship spot as your residency was basically a long interview and you might not have done so hot.

We still have about 25 programs to hear back from I think? So could be a busy July...plus people cancelling ivs I'm sure...

What is the average number of interviews people are getting and what is a "safe" number?

Agreed.

But as I said earlier in thread, try to figure out applicant to spot ratio. 5 interviews with a 4:1 ratio is a probably better than 8 interviews with a 10:1 ratio. I've even heard through the grapevine 20:1 at some places.

So it's not that black and white to number of interviews.

You just need one that likes you in the end!

1. No one is matching their #10 spot. 2. Most matches happen in top 5 or not at all.
3. Your number of interviews is a reflection of your strength of application.
4. Try to understand how this cause and effect plays into the match algorithm.

Not sure about OHSU, heard from a UPenn anesthesia grad that it's a run-of-the-mill program at a big name institution. It's unfortunate we have so little info on all these programs.

I wonder how changes in Oregon with reimbursement for ESI's affects training in their program - and desirability of practicing in the state in general? With the MINT trials one wonders whether insurance companies will start refusing reimbursement for RFA

Now that we can start ranking, and with interviews wrapped up (for me at least and many others I'm sure)... 2 months seems so far away!

It would be nice if we could throw together a more expansive review of programs for future fellowship applicants based on our experiences from interviews with hopefully added comments from current and recent fellows from the specific programs.

I plan on doing this, either here or to another forum including an overview of my application, stats etc for future applicants. Have met many people on the trail, often at the same programs! It will be curious to see if my thoughts match up with the crowd.

Yeah don't worry, I've had a mixed bag of replies/no-replies. Honestly, unless you hear "rank to match", I wouldn't read into it too much, but kudos to maximus on the positive emails
