It is more likely that the lack of movement is because the majority of accepted students has not committed to enroll.
If the school cannot estimate who is coming, we cannot really undertake the waitlist.
I doubt there will be much more movement until some of the school deadlines are reached.

This kind of sucks for some waitlisted people already holding an acceptance (I know how annoying this may seem for some people). I have an acceptance but I am waitlisted on 2 in state schools that I would prefer to go to. My commit to enroll date for my A school is not until July 10th, so if the schools I am waitlisted on have commit to enroll dates after July 10th, then I will have to remove myself from those WL's prior to any significant movement occurring there. This process is definitely a mess.

There's also the added problem if someone's one school they've been accepted to starts in July and the school they're WLed at starts in August, they essentially have to start at the one acceptance they have before a lot of these CTE dates. So if movement is projected to happen in July this year, this will really mess with those applicants.

Schools are notified through the tool that an applicant has made CTE but the applicant still has to notify the schools themselves. Given how no one really knows how the system works and with gyngyn saying less than half their class used the tool, I will reiterate what others have said. It's just a lot of sitting now cause of the system.
Yes, and also I heard that adcoms can see that you CTE to them but are still on other waitlists and they can rescind your acceptance. Going off of that logic though, if the rule was to either PTE or CTE by April 30th, then lets say you're a school that your applicant was accepted but didn't PTE or CTE to, then wouldn't you then think that they aren't going to your school and therefore give their seat to someone else? I personally don't see any advantage as an applicant to not have at least PTe'ed to a school by April 30th as the rules said.

Exactly. And I’m guessing transferring financial aid is next to impossible. They’re really adding a lot of issues for many, many applicants.

Just got off the WL at my top choice. (There has been no movement from the WL recorded on SDN) Will be withdrawing from the two acceptances I am currently holding (one I received after 4/30) today. I'm hoping those spots go to two people on this thread!
Congrats! Which school had movement today?

I think schools are hesitant to mess with their numbers because they want to have good matriculation numbers and kicking off a kid who is coming there but didn't do the system would not help them. I could be wrong but i tend to cynical about how much rankings/numbers mean to schools.

I guess that could make sense too if they are assuming no one (or not a lot of people) used the tool.

Hi! Why do you say that some CTEs might still go elsewhere? I thought once you choose CTE you are committing and taking yourself off of all other WLs, so not sure what or where their other options are coming from.
CTE's can still be accepted elsewhere. It is recommended that they take themselves off of waitlists.

I wouldn't know what to think.
I can tell you that a significant minority have chosen neither option at this point.

@gyngyn Thank you for your help! You always provide useful insight for us 🙂 Could your school potentially email all the applicants a reminder to select either PTE/CTE? Or do a "are you coming" survey?

I think we've tried that...

That's where I am at right now. I am thankful for my only acceptance and the CTE date for it is May 20th since it starts in July. So I don't have much time left to wait on these waitlists. It hasn't happened yet but I can't help but wonder if I was able to wait longer maybe I could get off the waitlists I am on and go to those schools that would be a better choice for me.

How is your CTE date so early. I thought it was 21 days before matriculation?

I think the suggested is 21 days before matriculation. But the schools set them how they like and they chose a really early one.

What really bothers me is that the AAMC will make money off a lot of us that reapply only to be accepted off waitlists in June/July

This is actually a VERY important point ive been meaning to post on here.

FRIENDS YOU ONLY HAVE TO APPLY TO ONE SCHOOL TO GET YOUR PRIMARY VERIFED. So if you are reapplying while on waitlists, DO NOT APPLY TO ALL YOUR SCHOOLS ON THE FIRST DAY.

Spend 170$ to apply to the first school, wait until its verified, and then add all the other schools (AMCAS does not need to reverify your app for these schools!!!!!!) This gives you the most amount of time to get off the waitlist while spending the least amount of money.

I apologize if this has been posted before or if I am insulting anyone's intelligence who thinks this is obvious, but trust me, a ton of my friends in this situation were planning on adding all their schools on June 1!

I for one am triggered.

@saratonin please see this post
Could you please explain that to me?, i looked but im a bit confused...

So a "significant minority" (im taking that to mean 20-40% or so) did not choose PTE or CTE, so everything is moving slower than we anticipated?

just zhitposting to make the atmosphere light here

My school's CTE deadline is July 15th.... LOL if no movement starts before then.

Is there any significance to NOT receiving an “any final updates?” or “do you wish to remain on this waitlist?” e-mail? I’m telling myself that it’s because I very recently updated both my waitlists with an update and letters of interest/intent but I’m nervous

Not every school sends those, and if they do and recently got an update from you, they probably feel they don’t need to send it.

This whole process seems so unfair to the applicants. I feel like the AAMC really screwed applicants over this year and now we have to look into reapplying while waiting to possibly get off the waitlist. Does anyone feel like the AAMCs attempt to prevent a lawsuit is just promoting a lawsuit to happen. They set up all these guidelines with no real way to enforce them. Nothing is transparent and the whole process is just stressful.

Sorry rant over.

It really is ridiculous. They should just make April 30th a hard deadline everywhere so that most waitlisted applicants can know before the end of June.

Does anyone know if any MCAT test prep companies offer money back if you buy their program and get off a waitlist shortly after? I need to start studying for retake but would rather not drop all that money if I come off my waitlist in the near future.

Higher edu is a big business like anything else, so don't expect any help.

How can anyone possibly plan with like two weeks notice, “congrats you’re in”. I mean medical school is hard enough to transition into and now they just expect students to do this all so last-minute. Unreal.
How can anyone plan when school A starts in July and school B (for which you’re waitlisted) starts in August! Anyone else?

@gyngyn Hofstra asks applicants through a survey where else they have been accepted. Being of an opt-in nature, this avoids privacy issues. While off-putting at first, it seems like each school would benefit from doing this.
