Just look at how much money the government spent on the F22 and F35. 2 of my favorite fighter jets but we’re not getting in dogfights like the old days anymore haha.

The F35 handles great in a dogfight, but that’s not its primary mission. And that’s also a prime example of what I was talking about.
But fwiw my friends who are pilots say the F35 is incredible.
None of us has any way of interpreting the report that we get from the AAMC. Until we can figure out who is likely to come there will be very little action, I'm afraid.Just called 2 of my WL schools and all the first one could tell me was that they “accept students up until orientation” the second one told me that the ADCOM was out of the office today and to call back tomorrow if I had questions regarding the WL....
Not sure if that means that they are genuinely out of the office or if that means that they could be meeting.
@gyngyn any insight?
This is not a sound strategy because there is no school with a 1 to 1 yield on acceptances. Even a primary acceptance of 1.5 would likely result in mayhem when they have to fill half of their seats from an ever-changing waitlist (including delays for financial aid consideration...).I haven’t been following this thread too much, but does anyone else suspect that their school did this:
1) Only give out acceptances = class size
2) Prior to April 30, rank waitlist
3) See that X people dropped acceptances on April 30
4) May 1, accept 1-X on waitlist
Kinda sucks and makes me feel like I’m out of it already, although there will of course be some more movement.
I would say that less early movement followed by more movement as orientation dates approach.@gyngyn who will have more or less movement this early. private or state institutions?
Accepting aid does not imply a contract to attend.Does anyone know if there’s a deadline when we have to accept our financial aid packages by if we’re still waiting on a waitlist? Or if we should accept them at all if we aren’t 100% sure we’re going yet? I’m worried that accepting the aid will mean I have to go to that school. This whole thing has been confusing for me
I’m not published on it, but I do have 7 years of experience actually being in the military and seeing the bureaucracy in action. *shrug*
How about top vs mid-tier schools?I would say that less early movement followed by more movement as orientation dates approach.
I don't see much reason for difference between publics and privates...
The AAMC has requested that we not do this. Not everyone is feeling inclined to follow their requests this year.@gyngyn would adcoms be negatively inclined to accept someone off the waitlist if they know that he/she have already begun classes somewhere else? I am wondering if I screwed my chances by letting a school know that my other accepted program begins early June, although I made it clear I'd commit if accepted.
You don’t have to flash your street cred. I believe you haha.

We are all suffering from a lack of information. Ignorance, the great leveler of tiers! How about top vs mid-tier schools?
We have no way of knowing that you have matriculated at a DO program, so it would not affect decisions regarding an MD waitlist.in my case it's a DO program so I guess it doesn't apply to AAMC's requests? do adcoms generally avoid influencing other school's seat numbers?
Once movement begins, there will continue to be movement (at any particular school). If a school is reporting lots of early movement, do you guys think that means there will be less movement later this summer? Or do we still think that once other schools CTE deadlines approach, the schools with lots of early movement will continue to see movement later in the WL season?

It does not.I know the schools say it’s not supposed to have an effect on the offer, but realistically is there a possibility submitting an AMCAS 2019-2029 cycle application hurts chances? Some schools don’t have CTE deadlines until mid-July. I would assume they’re going to pull WL applicants around this time too due to some people not accepting the offer. By that time, our AMCAS applications will have long been sent in.
It is unlikely to hurt you.Well the thing is I already informed them in a letter lol. idk how i feel about it now xD
I was told by a school that I have an acceptance to that I have to plan to enroll so I did, does anyone know if this will affect my chances at a school I am waitlisted at? I sent a LOI to the school I am waitlisted at so they definitely know I would go there and withdraw my acceptance

but I actually have no acceptances =(schools, whether they accepted or waitlisted you, *normally* expect to see you have a PTE selection made if you have an offer, and it doesn't mean the end of anything, that's why they added an alternative CTE button. I can't imagine it being more beneficial for your own interest to make your WL schools think you have zero acceptances (by not making a PTE selection) as opposed to knowing you having one or more (by seeing you have a PTE selection)
but I actually have no acceptances =(
it's ok bud we're all in some way in the same boat lol. I have a wild feeling july will be lit
1. No.@gyngyn when a student CTEs at your school, I've got a couple questions:
If the answer is no to both (1) and (2), then do we really think the CTE deadlines for each school are going to solve anything if they're just as unenforceable as the PTE lol?
- Can you (adcoms) see if they have withdrawn all other As/WLs at that time?
- Can you see the school names of the other As/WLs that student is continuing to hold?
And even if the answer to (1) is yes and (2) is no, will adcoms hesitate to pull the trigger and rescind an A on a CTE student who they obviously want, but don't want to lay down the hammer on since they don't know who the ongoing competition is for that student? To top it all off, the CTE deadlines are distributed across June-July, and so school X (that student CTEed at) might speculate that Student_We_Really_Want is probably just waiting for the CTE deadline at school Y whose identity we don't know and whose CTE deadline might differ from ours.
This is just the most asinine system imaginable. And the excuse that the AAMC is 'figuring things out' with this first year of rule changes is just ridiculous, we're talking some very simple logistical guideline setting here, not landing on Mars. I'm very fortunate to have an A somewhere at this point so I'm thankful I'm not at least in the re-applying limbo (bless everyone's heart who is in this position, I truly hope you get some answers soon 🙂. But there is some really annoying WL limbo that is preventing me from finalizing a lease/purchasing a car and all the other life stuff that accompanies starting medical school.

lol no sucks for us whose school starts in july 🙁🙄sucks for us who have to CTE by july

All the schools I am WL for emailed to check on my interest, even before April 30th. People tend to fall of the face of the planet when they get the A they have been waiting for. That’s why they ask.I feel like the PTE is useless if not being used by everyone. I have zero acceptances and one of my schools emailed me about my "interest" in attending their school. It makes sense that they have no idea because if they were able to deduce that I had 0 As, I doubt that they would be sending that type of email. So, we are definitely in for a delayed WL season.
Thanks for answering and good lord what a crazy policy. Not even CTE is enforceable I can't even....1. No.
2. No.
Only by including a contract with a CTE will schools be able to clarify intent. At this point, I have seen relatively few examples of enforceable contracts.
If somebody does get a contract could you let me see it?
Yesterday I got into my favorite school off the WL. I say my favorite because I love the school but I know it's going to be more expensive than the one I am currently PTE at and the other WL I am on. I love the school so much though, so now I just have to sit and wait for the financial aid offer to come. Hoping for the best!!
lol no sucks for us whose school starts in july 🙁🙄
Congratulations on the acceptance!
I mean no offense through this question, but are you planning to hold onto your multiple acceptances for weeks/months until they get back to you with a financial aid package?
I thought there was some rule about holding multiple acceptances after April 30th .. like 5 days to decide or something.
Just wondering what your plan is bc what applicants like you do affects people like me who are on multiple waitlists with out an acceptance & beginning to reapply.
To be clear, I don’t blame you for doing what’s best for you! I would do the same. I’m just wondering what it’s like on the other side / if they’ve told you any thing. “5 days to decide” or “all the time you need” etc.
Aww, @OchemOficionado that school realized they blew it by not showing you some scholarship love!Gonna jump in here in the hopes that this helps:
It’s no longer a rule from AAMC, just a suggestion. Schools can make it their rule, but I’m not sure how they would enforce it. (Although when I withdrew from my acceptances they did take it off my AMCAS app that same day or the next day - so maybe it fell off the report that all schools get?)
I wasn’t told anything about any timeline whatsoever when I got off the WL at my schools. Not via phone or email. The most they said was tell us if you accept the spot within X number of days and gave me their CTE deadline. They didn’t mention other schools.
I do believe that schools are monitoring their lists closely because the day after I changed my PTE to a new school I got a call from the old school saying they saw the change and wanted me to know my scholarship offer before officially committing. They even shared some of the demographics of the incoming class although they admitted it can change any second.
@gyngyn, what do you make of CUSM sending out a new batch of Interview Invites this week? And yes, they are for this app season, not next year. 🤔🤔This is not a sound strategy because there is no school with a 1 to 1 yield on acceptances. Even a primary acceptance of 1.5 would likely result in mayhem when they have to fill half of their seats from an ever-changing waitlist (including delays for financial aid consideration...).
Schools use historical data to calculate a number needed to fill minus a comfort factor. The goal is to fill largest possible number of seats without going deeply into the waitlist or overfilling.

Did anyone actually get an interview for seton hall recently? I just got that weird email but no actual interview invitationSeton Hall too. For them is it because they are new to this?
The consensus is that there isn't a consensusJust jumping in here with my fellow patiently waiting folks... what is the consensus from the group about movement this year? Are we expected to see much more later in May/June or have schools mostly taken everyone? I thought with the new rules this year we would see a lot more movement a lot earlier but that doesn't seem to be the case.
