What a fantastic year to be on the UCLA waitlist!Quick Snapshot of most T20 Waitlist accepts 4/30 - 5/30
I've gone through 19 of the individual SDN threads for T20 schools and counted those who have been accepted off WLs.*
Below is a number (those I counted) and a number in brackets based on a 4x multiplier to account for those not posting here.
Harvard 1 (4)
Hopkins 2 (8)
Stanford 4 (16)
UCSF 9 (36)
Penn 2 (8)
WashU 6 (24)
NYU 5 (20)
Columbia 4 (16)
Duke 5 (20)
Chicago 2 (8)
Yale 6 (24)
N'western 3 (12)
Cornell 3 (12)
UCLA 0 (0)
Michigan 0 (0)
Mayo 3 (12)
Pitt 5 (20)
Sinai 5 (20)
Vandy 5 (20)
If you believe the larger number here, 277 folks have been taken off WLs at these schools. Given there are about 3000 acceptances, we are looking about a little less than 10% of this total class coming from WLs, assuming acceptances here are largely over.
The 277 are taken from an estimated total waitlist cohort of 4750 or more. Just under 6% of those on the WLs have gotten off
* I did not use the Facebook New Member Séance method to divine these numbers. A ouija board would be more reliable.
There have been approximately 15 students accepted from the waitlist for Mayo AZ. This is consistent with previous years for them.true that, just fyi tho, an assumption of 4 may be high at schools like Mayo, i work with an attending from there and they have a class size of 40 so I doubt that they have that much movement because that would be 25% of the class
i was referring to the main campus, my apologies. There have been approximately 15 students accepted from the waitlist for Mayo AZ. This is consistent with previous years for them.
Is UCLA... okay? They seem to be having a lot of trouble in general with admissions this year. Either way, you’ve got some fantastic choices in handWhat a fantastic year to be on the UCLA waitlist!
Thanks! Honestly I don’t know. Their Dean of Admissions resigned a few days before “traffic day.” They’ve also been very delayed, taking months longer to give out decisions. And they’ve had some blunders too, including sending multiple “you’re on the waitlist” emails to certain applicants (at late night hours, within hours apart too) and then following up by saying that that was a “glitch” and those applicants were actually rejected instead. Crazy year at UCLA!Is UCLA... okay? They seem to be having a lot of trouble in general with admissions this year. Either way, you’ve got some fantastic choices in hand
This is going 1 of 2 ways: 1.WL movement is over or 2. July is going to be an absolute zhit show
This is my first acceptance 🙂))Congratulations! First acceptance, or did you already have one but prefer this one?
Either way, congrats future Dr : )
I got into Tulane! 509 with cGPA 3.67 and sGPA 3.47 🙂Congrats!! May I ask where you got in and your stats?
CTE deadlines have already started passing. Harvard, Mooehouse, WVU, UHUS ect. idk what the deal is here
I'd still be happy to hear back with an acceptance from both WL schools, but at this point it's more of a financial and logistical hassle than good news.
I wish I could share that optimism, but I think the movement is probably mostly done. At the risk of oversimplifying, it seems that if no one is holding multiple acceptances any more (which seems to be the case given Gyngyn's earlier comments), there's nowhere that movement could come from.
I doubt that there are a lot of schools with open slots remaining. They have probably filled all their seats with PTEs and CTEs at this point; they would have no reason not to have done so. Given that most applicants are probably down to 1 acceptance they won't notably increase their yield by sitting around with 15 empty slots.
If all the schools have filled their slots with CTEs and PTEs, and no one is holding multiple acceptances that means that the total number of accepted applicants now matches the total number of slots. Barring the usual things that might prevent people from matriculating AT ALL (family emergency, visa issues for internationals, medical problems, people deciding they want to pursue another career, what have you), which will give the usual trickle, I don't see how this supposedly impending avalanche of new acceptances can occur.
yeah theres 14 schools that I found with ones before the 17th of june. but yes most are in julyOnly a few schools have their CTE deadlines by late May/early June. Most CTE deadlines are late June/early July. Unless a school has a seriously under-filled class, I doubt they would pull from the WL until then.
Going to chime in and also say that I think WL movement is mostly done. It’s true that if most schools took the cautious route, then as a total, less acceptances were given out. However, this doesn’t mean that not enough acceptances were given out. It could very well be that this year, there were less applicants who got multiple acceptances. That cohort (applicants with multiple acceptances) is what drives WL movement in the first place, as they have to withdraw from some of their options. If this year there were less students with multiple acceptances and more students with single acceptances, it wouldn’t surprise me if WL movement was lower.
same is true of Boonshoft school of medicine, normally they are in the bottom 1/3rd of the waitlist by now and they have not finished the first 1/3rd yet. IDK what is going to happen, I have a feeling that there might be some poaching this year because they have an early CTE deadlineI’m trying to stay hopeful but day by day the hope is decreasing. I’m waiting on my state school (Mercer) who usually has great waitlist movement and this year not a single person on SDN has reported getting off the waitlist. It’s either that the movement hasn’t started or that the people accepted off waitlist aren’t posting. I’m hoping it hasn’t started but that doesn’t seem realistic.
NJMS but that’s it, both were priority WLscongrats, were you waitlisted anywhere else?
did you pull yourself from their WL?NJMS but that’s it, both were priority WLs
I hope that you are right, I really want to go to boonshoft as I am from that areaHopefully you are right!
I think I might have said this before, but your username is basically me irl for the last 2 months lol
any good news today fam? i'm losing hope.
What is dead may never die?Cant lose what you don't have
I'm naive and thought the universe was telling me something when I got an interview to an MD school in December. I would have been content with going to the DO school if that hadn't happened. But apparently the universe hates me, and here I am hanging onto a WL for the second year in a row. And last year my school had a similar situation where the WL just didn't move like it had historically. This process is so much fun!! I should just do it again another year!!Cant lose what you don't have
+1.. super weird to me that no one has posted on here about getting off the waitlist at Mercer. I’m on the waitlist there and at MCG. I’ve started reapplying and studying for the mcat but really not wanting to waste $800+. I’ve seen you post a ton & im really hoping for the best for you!!!!I’m trying to stay hopeful but day by day the hope is decreasing. Would have to see your school list. Your ECs look very strong (like T20 strong) but unfortunately your MCAT is not T20 strong (but still should be good enough for MD). Also, the overseas operation room trips may be seen as a negative, especially if you did anything hands-on.does anyone know what makes a good applicant? 3.8 GPA 3.95 science, 511 mcat, 3 first author publications with Journal of Comp Physiology, 2 other publications, 8 research presentations, 4 poster presentations at national conferences, 3000 clinical hours in an operating room to pay for school, 2 overseas trips in an operating room. Really not sure how to get into f medical school at this point. 1 year into a Master's with a 4.0 and cannot seem to make the jump to get accepted into medical school.
Apparently, I cannot get off a waitlist anywhere.
Im still on 4 waitlists (dying of stress but whatever)and I'm starting to reapply. I was waitlisted at each of the schools I interviewed at except the free NYU program, which was a long shot, so I remained hopeful until this past month. I'm wondering if its better to just apply to different schools since not much has changed on my application, I've been working at the same job as a medical assistant and receptionist since last summer when I graduated. Would they still evaluate me for changes in my application? I thought I had a decent application (3.94 GPA and 519 MCAT) but my research was never published and survey based rather than hands on, but I haven't had any luck finding more research yet (recently started looking since I have no acceptances). I guess my main question is do I even bother to reapply to the schools I was waitlisted at or not interviewed at this cycle?

I'm not sure that is the case with all lower-tier schools. The one I am waitlisted on said the class at their main campus is currently full with CTEs.I think we consistently make the same mistake on this thread by treating all schools with a "one size fits all model."
I believe that classes at the top tier schools are largely filled; they have consistently messaged that of late. Check the school specific threads. Most, if not all, PTEs at these schools, I think will become CTEs. In fact, these school will likely freeze in place their classes from this point forward, taking virtually no one off of WLs, and forcing all PTEs to become CTEs. It is the risk adverse tactic to take. No one I know with an acceptance at a T20 school and who is on a waitlist expects to get off it.
Different story at lower ranked schools, schools that have relatively low yields and that historically fill a large portion of their classes from WLs. They are likely to have underaccepted, and are holding a relatively larger percentage of their classes as PTEs. gyngyn, in my mind, represents the perspective of these schools. There will, I believe, be movement at these schools, as gyngyn has consistently stated.
What I describe above are two ends of a continuum, with lots of school specific difference among and between these two poles.
well I hope June is a szit show bc my top choice has a CTE of June 17th
I know you were accepted to BSOM, where did you end up going? Is that a good or bad thing for you? Lol
bad thing, its early and I was hoping to see more movement before then, I am middle 1/3rd and they havent finished first 1/3rd as of yet.
I know you were accepted to BSOM, where did you end up going?
This sounds like a very encouraging non-gender-binary phrase. Imma steal it for the forums.shoot your shot man/gal.
While I will use the WL support thread to encourage you and support your hope for waitlist acceptance, to anyone else reading:I ended up declining BSOM this cycle
Are you holding another acceptance or was that your only one?I ended up declining BSOM this cycle, and am still waiting on my top choices for which I am also WL'ed for!
