After their CTE date, they'll either be full or know they need X # of seats filled, which will go to the waitlist (which I assume requires a pretty quick response), and then they're full.. So maybe, what, a week or two after CTE they'll be full (barring last minute special things like you mentioned)?

Are you saying that after they're "full" that they're still going to keep dozens (hundreds? no idea how big waitlists are) of people hanging on a waitlist?

I feel like selecting CTE would not be as effective since those same students must manually withdraw their apps from other schools. What if student X selects CTE at school A and neglects to withdraw a waitlist/acceptance from School B?

Yes, even though a student has committed what if some issue prevents matriculation? Health, family, cant get loans approved, etc. Every year at probably most schools, there are always a few acceptees who need to defer just as schools starts. And some waitlist person gets a call on Thursday saying classes start Monday.

Oh boy Monday's tomorrow. Can't wait for another fruitless month to really drive home that I'm a failure lol.

Keep on trucking friends. Hopefully good news comes for y'all!
How was your Memorial day wkn? I believe you were the one dreading to meet your old teachers.

I'm getting a whiff of hefty deposits
There's also plenty of people like myself with decent stats (3.9/511) that did not apply DO because of the outrageously high deposits. I would rather go DO than reapply this next cycle (this month), but those hefty DO deposits kept me away. I wonder how much money you lose, actually

I didn't apply DO because I was told I had a strong application also there is a stigma associated with it

Yeah. I had 3 interviews. So I feel you. I thought I'd get 1 acceptance. But the stigma is not that bad, and I am not interested in a very competitive specialty. DO would still be better than 1 more year of applying. But we live and learn, right?

Yeah, the deposits suck. I just paid $2K to my only acceptance (DO school) and I'm sat on 2 MD waitlists and another DO waitlist. My stats are great (3.85cGPA/3.95sGPA/4.0 last 4 sem's in a row) with a 510 MCAT I studied 1 month for because I got my green card way earlier than I thought I would (just in time for this cycle) It's possible that I'll get into another school between now and the end of July, but I'm happy to take the risk and pay my deposit and go DO for now because I'm a competent student and will be just as good a physician whether there is a DO or an MD at the end of my name. Put it this way, would you rather pay $2K for a DO school deposit, then end up having to put $150 more down for an MD school you later get accepted to, or $10K on another application cycle with no guaranteed acceptance?

Same. I'm interested in pathology which is very DO friendly. Pretty lucky things ended up working out

Oh the teachers ended up fine, but we saw some family friends and it was super awkward xD. It was kind of clear they all just pitied me :\. Tons of people saying like "hey if you have to reapply it's not the end of the world" and ****, real awkward. Funnily enough, one of them is actually a past reapplicant and he's super right wing and he started going OFF on URMs and he was like "hey man you would be in if they didn't let the blacks in with low scores" and I just sort of stood there and was awkwardly mumbled something like "well I can only control my own cycle" and he was like "good on you for not letting racism against whites get you down" :eyeroll:

ew how the f is someone like that a physician

The fact that you would share these atrocious comments on this thread makes me wonder if you felt the same.
You shouldn’t breathe life into every nonsense people utter. Delete this foolishness if you felt it was completely out of place.
well said. The reality is that there are more qualified applicants than there are positions, not to say that all applicants are qualified or that they are all equally qualified, but there definitely are more than enough people to fill all the spots available. Also there are ample stats analyses that show how the URM applicant does not change the acceptance rates of the majority applicants so maybe take some looks at those.

Is anyone else preparing a reapp for AMCAS and AACOMAS when it was just AMCAS the first time ?

Edit: asking here to know if anyone has any tips for doing this while on waitlists
Besides just the “apply to one school” thing

Yup! One tip that has been repeated is to verify by sending through one school first while waiting for decisions. This will save money. Then you can send more primaries out later on as needed. Not really any tips for AACOMAS. I was mostly able to transfer everything over manually but had to shorten from 700 to 600 on the activities descriptions. No most meaningful essays. PS is same length. I'm having an issue with one of my transcripts from NSC going into AACOMAS when it was accepted on AMCAS already. Adding all the courses and transcripts in is just tedious, but get your transcripts processed asap.

As far as general advice, it is worthy to try to get feedback from schools if possible. Some people seemed to have success with submitting similar essays, but it seems that most adcoms want to see greater effort there, especially because the motivation and fit of an applicant are very important.

I mean, the OP of that post clearly disagrees with the person that they're quoting in the anecdote. Let's not jump to conclusions.

I also think it highlights the assumption that URMs get into med school not by their own merit, but with 'help', which, if OP is ACTUALLY quoting a conversation he had, further highlights how problematic it is that some physicians who may very well teach URM med students and residents still hold this opinion.

It just strikes me as a pretty pointless anecdote considering this thread has nothing to do with URM and there’s no humor to be found in speaking ill of black applicants. I think it’s a bit cringey and aimless to even share it considering this thread was already derailed for bashing trans people.

I had posted that I was nervous for how my weekend was going to go, seeing as I knew I'd be seeing some teachers and people who know our family. Someone on this thread asked how it went. I replied that it was mostly OK but that a parent of one of my high school classmates said something racist, which is uncomfortable. I don't see how it's beyond the pale to answer a question directly asked of me.
They asked how your weekend went in regard to your waitlists and people asking about your app cycle, not if you had any anecdotes from racist friends.

He's not my friend, he's my friend's racist dad
They asked how my weekend went re: uncomfortable discussions about med school admissions (which was my fear) and I post an uncomfortable discussion I had about med school admissions. Did you read my original post they were replying to? Because this is pretty clearly within its scope

It's VERY uncomfortable to read. Yes. Does OP claim to agree with the statement? no. What's most concerning is that there are physicians/teachers/premeds/parents of premeds who hold these beliefs!!! and it needs to be talked about!!! Yes, it likely would have been better left not brought up on this thread in particular because it's not pertinent to the topic of waitlists, but bringing these comments to light are also important as we go on our journey of education and practicing medicine where our peers and our patients are URM.

Thanks for the tips! I didn’t know if we could send just one on AMCAS or also on AACOMAS and what the suggested timelines would be for each in terms of getting verified and secondaries. It’s so nerve wracking going into a new cycle while still waiting but tad exciting to see what it may hold. Yeah it’s great that AACOMAS changed the PS character ct. Heard that it was less last year.

yup it was 4000 characters last year!

I am happy you get it.

If it made OP so uncomfortable he/she should have addressed the person who said it and left that conversation right there.

That is how you deal with people who have those ideas. No need to share those hateful comments here.

Your comment about wondering if he “felt the same” as the person who made those comments was pretty outrageous too since there was no basis for it and you ended up being the one throwing stones. Future physicians should be able to have discussions with each other without jumping to narrow minded conclusions. Isn’t that exactly what you are condemning in said racist person?

Jesus you guys are blowing his comment way out of proportion. He was literally just responding to someones question and provided a bit of detail to one of his uncomfortable convos he had about med school admissions. I really don't see how it's a cringey comment. Let's just put the pitchforks away.

Agreed. In a country where covert racism prevails, surely we should be able to go against the crowd by highlighting and pointing out incidences of racism / racist comments, especially seeing as we're all probably going to end up in med school with URM peers.

Which is why I stopped responding to this thread.

Officially moved in and paid first month rent last week for my DO acceptance. At this point, it is what it is for me whether I hear back or not. Good luck to all of you!

Well lol received an email from one of my WL, which rejected people off WL recently, wondering if I’m still interested. They said movement started to slow but they believe there are more offers are yet to come. I had just accepted peace of mind then they do that to me lmao

movement started to slow? haha at all the schools I am waitlisted at, it seems like WL movement has barely started and its not like they are very competitive schools. WVU and Boonshoft School of medicine

Most of you have probably seen this but this is the link to the CTE dates for the various schools:

Same boat. Just officially signed a lease at my DO acceptance so I'm now subjected to fines if I break it 😕. I'd still be happy to hear back with an acceptance from both WL schools, but at this point it's more of a financial and logistical hassle than good news. If it happens it happens, but I guess it's good to move on.

Good luck everyone! Hang in there 🙂
