Its like they are all WAITING for something. Weird.

They’re all waiting for each other to pull the trigger and start accepting. Some schools have already started doing it so hopefully the water flows down the river after that.

Emailed one of my waitlisted schools about the status of the waitlist, I got nothing useful and at the very end: “we recommend you prepare for next year as if you were not going to get accepted” lol.

ugh this is so frustrating I'm on 3 WL and have no clue where I'm gonna be in a couple of months. I wish they could at least let us know our position generally on the WL.

I feel like they say that just to cover themselves. Like they can't give a kid a hint they are gonna take em and then not because that is a bad look and idk if possible liability.... I'm not a lawyer for a reason.

I agree. They did assure my app will be kept under consideration until I’m notified of otherwise.

Late night thoughts:
1. Change in AAMC traffic rules suck!!
2. Since AAMC traffic rules are mere guidelines and each individual school has their own specific policies, I imagine there will be very little movement until after schools CTE deadline. I assume this is the only clear way schools can predict their yield for the cycle. This sucks because most schools have CTE deadlines closer to the start of classes?
3. Is there a compiled list of CTE deadlines for all the schools?

For number 3: Kinda a sensitive subject.... but I’m sure the NFL has one....

got off the waitlist at my top school yesterday!! the head of admissions first emailed me and asked "if offered admission, would you accept", and then also asked if I was accepted somewhere else and where (all of which he could have figured out if he looked in my application but it's ok lol), and then a few hours later I got accepted. It seems as if because the schools don't have much info to go off of with the new rules, they're trying to be cautious. I know like 3 other people at the same school got the same email yesterday and then got accepted

that is so weird. Seems like they are trying to game it so they have good matriculation rate or they really have no info

lol. based upon this I will see y'all in July

Are people going to really wait to the CTE deadline to decide where to go?

Yeah I’m not really sure I get this either? Even if people chose not to use the tool, I imagine most people narrowed down on April 30th anyway thinking it was a rule or just because there’s no reason not to have decided by now? Unless I am just totally naive...

Is the reason the schools themselves have no idea what’s going on because not everyone is using the tool or because clicking PTE doesn’t give them a concrete answer?

It feels like this is screwing everyone so hard, because people need to find places to live and sign leases and figure out if they need a car to get a car wherever the med school is

Believe it or not, these concerns happen every single cycle. Every waitlist thread I’ve read has students expressing that they are in the same exact boat re moving and leases and reapplying, etc. these new traffic rules seems to have made it worse, but some students are waiting every year until just prior to orientation to get pulled from the list, if at all.

With the way movement is going, almost makes me feel as if they've already given out the majority of their acceptances. I know "half the seats usually come from waitlist", but might be different this year. Most of these schools CTE deadlines are in July and highly doubt they're going to be extending a plethora of offers that late.

I think there will be a ton of movement between this week and next. I don’t think this is a matter of limited amounts of seats as much as it is schools being seriously confused. I am a firm believer that there will be just as many seats coming from the WL but ADCOMs are still learning about this new system and how it effects filling their classes.

@gyngyn what do you think about this?

I am on three waitlists, and I have seen very minimal movement from my schools (i.e. 1-2 posts about getting off of the waitlist) despite the schools saying that in the past there has been a good amount of waitlist movement and they expect even more this year.

Do people just tend not to post about getting off waitlists, or will there maybe be more to come?

They would post if they got off waitlists. If you’re getting an email from your schools saying there will be movement, then they anticipate that movement is coming. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.

is it just me or do the school threads this year seem more dead/secretive than in previous years? like 3 people posted about WL acceptances for one school but more people are posting in help me decide threads that they got into said school?? why can't we all just be transparent and share information w each other pls

But that would be helpful to others and SDN is where gunners are so.... nah

Can applicants who have selected "Plan to Enroll" hold more than one acceptance right now? Or do schools force them to withdraw from all but one?

A reason I feel like waitlists aren't moving yet is that many are "unranked" (so probably internally ranked at least a little). So at an adcom meeting, they need to figure out what kind of people have decided to enroll elsewhere (maybe like 30% of the class?), and find people to replace them such that they preserve their class composition. The difference between them and us is that we spend every waking moment thinking about our waitlists, while they meet once a week (if even) to once a month. I think it's more a matter of them having 1 hour meetings every few weeks that delays movement, since there's really no incentive for them to fill their class RIGHT THIS SECOND.

Or not, I'm talking out my ass anyway. 😀
