Accepted off of 2 waitlists today and just wanted to thank this thread for the reassurance. I’ll be sure to make a speedy choice and withdrawal.
Congrats
May I ask which 2 schools offered acceptances ?

Sorry if this was already addressed, but how exactly do the traffic rules differ this year from last year's? Did they not have PTE or CTE deadlines last year?

Go back about 5 pages & read the explanations 🙂

Is there a list anywhere of the T20 CTE dates?
Harvard, Case/CCLCM, Michigan, Mayo (MN and AZ) and Vanderbilt are first top 20 CTE dates on here

"Movement"...

I am thinking the same. If no movement at all occurs and all PTEs become CTEs because they were not accepted elsewhere, then this cycle is really just over because of an endless stalemate

I think this is correct. Not sure how the AAMC didn't see this coming

No, that’s only true if each and every applicant is only holding one acceptance right now which is not realistic.

I am probably putting too much faith in the good of humanity but I assume most people are not doing this. Could be very wrong though...

I currently know someone who is holding THREE haha. And is PTE'd at one school, but has not withdrawn the acceptances at the others. No consequences yet, and has received word from all schools that this situation is okay until the end of June.

Schools are contacting their students and asking them to PTE/drop multiple acceptances. I feel that this cohort is a lot smaller than we are imagining it.

The problem is that for now, it seems the general trend for schools is that half of their accepted students are CTE, and half PTE. They don’t know what the PTE students will do.

In previous years, schools did not have PTE. In effect now they can read the mind of the student and see they are waiting on a potential waitlist opening. Most of those students are not getting off those waitlists so schools are going to have to treat a PTE as a probable CTE

I agree. There’s no incentive to be the first school to take people off the WL and it comes with a massive risk.

Almost every school is full of PTE.

We need a few brave schools to risk over enrollment

That should never happen, you should have emailed the schools and withdrawn from them as soon as you selected CTE.
Someone on another thread had withdrawn and CTE'd to a school. They then had Seton hall call with a full scholarship even though they had withdrawn.

I haven't CTE'd anywhere yet. I have PTE'd at my second choice school and withdrawn all other acceptances. Unfortunately, I am waitlisted at my dream school and my dream school's CTE and my second choice school's CTE are the same day. My dream school advised me to not withdraw my application if I don't hear back by this deadline so that I can still be accepted by them.

so does amcas allow these acceptances to process then if the school chooses not to follow the guidelines?

@gyngyn

Why do you believe that movement will happen in June? I get that some schools are concerned about PTE applicants, but none of these students will leave if everyone remains in a stalemate.

As far as I know, there doesn't exist a large gap where some schools are not at least full of PTE applicants.

Does it have to start with a few neurotic admissions officers who jump the gun?

I think it might be the idea that some schools may have under-accepted, which would be a safe strategy considering the new rules, and their acceptances would promote movement.

My theory was based on the belief that cautious admissions officers would over-interview and under-accept.
If, in fact this did not happen, the stalemate will continue until mid July.

So poaching is still a thing?
The traffic rules that have governed our behavior for decades have been eliminated.
Poaching was always acceptable behavior (up until a student matriculated at another school).
