2019-2020 Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM-Virginia)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Submitted secondary but my application status shows incomplete for LORs, but then under the document status, it has received all my LORs. Anyone else have this issue?
I'm in this same boat, I haven't submitted yet cause I didn't know if i could with an incomplete section. Did you ever figure this out? It says to leave it blank if your letters are submitted to AACOMAS, which mine are, but then when i leave the section blank it says its incomplete

Edit: i figured it out lol

Did anyone run into the problem of paying where it said they are having issues right now but then upon returning to the secondary app it says "marked as paid"

well im not adcom so i cant really give the best advice. The only thing that sticks out is the MCAT.
I wish you best of luck this cycle!

I will say this, we have a few people in our class with a sub 495 MCAT. @junouno97 if you have any questions, or anyone in general, feel free to PM me with questions. I’m a current first year and I love to help pre-meds (this week is a pretty chill week, but it may take me a while to respond).

Why'd you decide to go from PT to DO? How was the interview? How are the shared facilities with VTech? What do you think of the town overall?

Thanks for answering in advance!

Med school has turned me into a ***** lol. I misread and assumed this was VCOM-Auburn. But I will answer as many questions as possible, but I have a classmate that interviewed and was placed at Auburn (he wanted Virginia).

I started PT school and withdrew after the first semester. Honestly, I didn’t like the direction PT was going, and my professors helped me realize I was in the wrong field. I knew I would be upset if I was limited to an exercise/modality based approach to patient care (PM&R is an interest of mine).

Yet again, I didn’t interview at Virginia, but a classmate of mine did and we shared similar stories. I had an EXTREMELY laid back interview (think of the most basic interview questions and that was it). But some of my classmates were grilled on their application.

Sorry I can’t respond to the last two questions (I should learn to read lol). But we share facilities with Auburn University and it is really nice. We have access to anything the undergrad/grad students have available (gym, pool, etc). And most people love the VCOM students, so they do their best to accommodate us to make things less stressful.

Best of luck to you!

is anyone interviewing august 27th?

How many clinical/shadowing hours do y’all have? Seems like everyone who got accepted in the last thread had insane numbers

I have not heard anything yet but I have about 400 total clinical hours which might be a little low. I have a lot research hours though that I hope will compensate (5500)

I have 3,000+ hours in EM and 100+ in FM as a scribe (gaining more in both still). Also have ~40 hours shadowing General/Trauma Surgery but have heard nothing from them yet. Also have some personal DO experience and seen OMT used in FM and EM setting. I'm IS and was marked complete as of 7/2 so I definitely was not looked at for first round of interviews.

They are my #1 DO choice. I'm not sure if I should call for a status update or if that would seem too desperate lol...

Edit: added more

That’s amazing! You got this! I only have ~200 clinical, ~100 shadowing (MDandDO), soo I’m a little pressed

Keep grinding! Sounds like you know what you want. You got this, friend.

Oh no, now I’m worried... I don’t have nearly the same number of hours. Have I already shot myself in the foot ?

Don't be. Keep in mind, you're on SDN. This is a wildly skewed population.

There are many benefits of SDN as a resource. It does have its downside as well and this is one of them. Most on here think I’m crazy for applying with zero research, and honestly I would be if I was only applying to top 20 schools. So don’t think the sky is falling, it’s not. They look at applications as a whole.

You’re fine. Most schools take a holistic approach.
Has anyone else gotten a complete email yet? I submitted a week ago and online it says complete, but haven’t gotten an email yet.

Oh and anyone from University of Richmond? Apparently they take most in-state from U of R

You hit the nail on the head. I applied with minimal research hours and average stats and I have been accepted (but not to VCOM)!

Took me exactly two weeks to get the email.

I did not even receive a secondary, does anyone know the admissions email

Is anyone for the 8/26 interview going Sunday to stay in town overnight?

how long after submitting your secondaries did you guys get an interview offer?

Alright, I'm super confused. SO! I submitted my secondary to VCOM back in JUNE (6/24) and I have been marked complete in my portal since then. BUT! I just received an email (like 10 minutes ago) stating, "We are pleased to learn of your continued interest in the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. I can confirm your application is complete and we are in receipt of your Secondary Application, processing fee, and all required letters of recommendation."
Also, super weird that it states in the email, "Should you be granted an interview, you can expect to be notified via phone."

No worries, this is normal and exactly what happened to me! I was marked complete in the portal immediately after submission, but in the submission confirmation email, it says "Over the next couple of weeks we will begin reviewing your application for completeness. This includes reviewing your Letters of Recommendation, Secondary Application, MCAT score, and required coursework. We follow up with you via email to let you know either your application is complete or that we will need additional information to consider your application complete." This follow-up email is the one that you just got. I was notified of an interview less than a week after receiving this email.

Also, I was notified of my II via email even though I said I'd be notified by phone.

Lame. I totally just assumed I got a complete email from them since it was so long ago. Wish I could say that meant an II was coming my way, but when I visited VCOM for an open house they told me I wouldn't be brought on for an interview until January, at the earliest, because I am out of their target range. So, no matter how competitive I may be as an applicant, doesn't matter to them. Oh well.

What do you mean by “target range”?

What do you mean by “target range”?
"Target states for all VCOM campuses include Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia"
So applicants from these areas are considered before those outside the target areas. I am a New York resident, that is why I would not be considered until later on.

Submitted 7/26 and was complete like a day after, received the e-mail saying i was under review , but still no interview. I'm Florida resident. Just trying to keep updated.
