Got placed on hold. Any insight on how things unfold from here? Could I be accepted/rejected any time from now to March?

If you get placed on hold you could potentially get waitlisted, but it’s pretty much a rejection.

I'm curious why you think this? Not trying to be confrontational. Just hadn't heard this before

I’ve applied to MUSC several times before I got in this year. Musc’s waitlists is very small, almost everyone on the waitlist gets in. I’m pretty sure they don’t accept people throughout the year that are on hold, you’re basically under consideration for a waitlist spot at that point. It’s okay if you don’t believe me, but I’m pretty certain what I’m describing is indeed the case.

I believe you. I just wasn't aware of that. At the interview they made it sound like they review apps on hold whenever the committee meets.

They sure make it sound that way, but unfortunately not how it works. What are your stats if you don't mind me asking?

My brother (and his family) and my sister (and her family) are all from Mount Pleasant. My mom also intends to retire there. MUSC said I had no ties to SC. *smh* c’est la vie, c’est la guerre

How is your brother and sister from mount pleasant but you’re not?

Honestly don’t take it as a total loss. If they wanted to reject you, they probably would have. MUSC isn’t afraid of rejecting people. Odds are you won’t hear anything again until March (that’s how it went for my friends who were in your spot in the past). I know one who got in after being on hold, and others who got waitlisted (and eventually off waitlist) after as well. Don’t sweat too hard bc you’ll probably be sitting tight for a few months, but the outcome could still be positive!!!!

How much do you think updates will help? I recently started working on research and that was something missing from my app

Has anybody tried to submit an update letter? I just tried and I got a 404 error. I left a voicemail with admissions to see if they received it before I attempt to submit another one and look like a jackass. Wondering if it's happened to anyone else.

Same, and I emailed about it and never got a response 🙂

The tour is an hour long and a ton of walking, so you will be miserable if you don’t wear comfortable shoes on interview day. Just trying to save you all from blisters.

Has anyone been able to find a match list? When I check their website, it requires a MUSC login.

I was wondering the same thing. I found the page that required the login too. I thought that info had to be public?

This is the closest I could find. Just a summary of their match, but no specifics.

JUST GOT THE CALL, ACCEPTED!!! I can't even believe it :'))

hey thanks awesome congrats! I saw you’re a reapplicant from SC w/ similar stats that I would have when I apply. Could you please tell me what you did to improve your app? I really want to stay instate for med school so I want to know how to appeal to gville & MUSC

Hey! Thanks so much! My first app cycle I was an IL resident so obviously moving to SC helped me a lot haha but otherwise I brought my MCAT up a bit (still not great) and got clinical hours (2000+ scribing).

Any OOS started receiving interview invites yet?... They said Nov / Dec they'll look at us so now I'm checking my email nonstop:laugh:

To the OOS people, when you go on your portal does it say "AMCAS letters have been received" beside "recommendations received" or does it say something else? The note at the bottom of the page about LOR makes it sound like that would mean mine are still processing so just seeing if y'all's say anything else!

Did any other OOS applicants receive an email asking them to re-fill out the close ties form?

No. What did the email say?

Dear applicants,

The College of Medicine at MUSC is an accredited, South Carolina public institution with a primary preference for in-state residents. Out-of-state applicants must possess Close Ties to South Carolina for further consideration by the Admissions Committee.

To qualify for an interview as an out-of-state applicant, please complete the Close Ties Declaration Form by next Wednesday, November 13th.
When submitting the form, you may refer to the descriptions below as a guide if one or more of the following relates to you:

  • Have you lived in South Carolina, at one point in your life, for at least 5 consecutive years? If yes, please explain:
  • Do your grandparent(s) currently live in South Carolina or have lived in South Carolina for at least 5 consecutive years? If yes, please explain:
  • Do your in-laws currently live in South Carolina? If yes, please explain:
  • Are you a current student or former graduate from a South Carolina institution? If yes, please explain:
  • Are you related to or know faculty at MUSC? If yes, please explain:
  • Do you currently live and/or work in South Carolina for less than 5 consecutive years? If yes, please explain:

We thank you for your continued interest in the College of Medicine at MUSC. Your compliance with this time-sensitive request is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions.

It basically just said in order to be considered for an invite as an oos you have to have close ties and fill out this form showing you do.

Oh interesting. Had you previously filled out the form with your secondary?

So I've had an interview at USC Greenville and have an upcoming interview with USC Columbia, but have not gotten an interview with MUSC. I wanted to at least interview at this school. Should I send an email? If so do I send to admissions person or to one of the deans? What could I say?

LM 70 In State- SC complete at MUSC on 9/16
