Did you manage to get a response yet?
Yes! "Thank you for reaching out! If you feel as though it was an extended gap period, we recommend completing that question. Essentially the committee would like to know what you were up to and any experiences you may have had while out of college/employment. Many of our applicants take gap years so that question helps our committee understand how each applicant used that time."

How is everyone answering question 7? Talk about "why us" or reflect on my journey towards medicine. Any ideas are greatly welcome.

I honestly think it can be anything you haven't shared in the previous secondary responses or your primary. If you wanted to expand on something too but couldn't because of character/word count you could probably do that here as well

Great. I am leaning towards reflection, but then I am an OOS applicant, so I thought about why we essay.

Yeah I'm OOS as well and was originally thinking a why us but when I researched their website they didn't really have a whole lot of unique programs I felt I could meaningfully connect with and write about so I chose just to write about my characteristics further and what I could bring to the class using stories as example that I hadn't gotten to use yet

Great, I think I have an idea!

Stats for previous class posted in Albany secondary:

and

how are you guys approaching the social determinants question? It says "personal experiences" and "in your life and community," but I am fortunate enough to not have been affected by social determinants I think, however, I have noticed others being affected in many of my experiences. If I write about those, does that fulfill the prompt?

Yes, that should cover the community aspect of the question. When I applied I wrote about how I saw the social determinants of health impact patients in my previous clinical experience.

out of curiosity, for the question about what community you are a part of...what are you all saying?

can a job that you are in be considered a community, what about a research lab?

Personally I would not talk about working in a research lab. It sounds like they want to get to know about you as a person, not as a student/worker. They already have your activites 😉

Think about what make you you. Is there a hobby youre really invested in? Is there an aspect of your identity that you want to speak to (ethnicity, race, LGBT, etc)? Maybe you can talk about literal community -- the city/town you live it. Just throwing some ideas out for you.

Thank you @ecobio ! I think I’ll talk about my heritage and why/how that shaped me! Good luck!

Got an email asking me to complete my secondary application, is this completely automated? I’m assuming so but want to make sure.

Got the same. I assume it's automated as well.

I was thinking about writing about how covid impacted me. I feel my ability to get experience in medicine was hindered a lot by covid. Does anyone think this is a good idea? Or is it better to write about something else?

This was one of the secondary prompts a few years ago, so definitely something you could write about.

Quick question about the secondary question that says: "Is there anything else you would like the admissions committee to know when reviewing your application?" - I was previously waitlisted at this school and was considering writing something along the following lines (obviously more well written though): Having been on the waitlist to this school the previous cycle I had time to investigate the school in great depth and really come to understand that it would be the perfect fit for me to attend medical school. Due to these reasons, x, y, and z (discuss programs and reasons about why I want to attend/it is a good fit).

I hope that made sense! I basically just want to ensure that it is okay that I bring up I was on the waitlist - I am hoping it comes up as beneficial in that I am really committed to wanting to attend the school but would love to hear opinions!

Thank you!

I was told that it would be better to not talk about previous waitlists with schools but I could be wrong. I think it does show growth but some schools may see it as like i hope you consider me this time because I was waitlisted last time. IDK my thought process could be wrong

For the tell us about the community, can I talk about being a first-generation student? and first in my family to pursue medicine?

social media is only a small part of all applicants but i feel like cycle track users overlap with sdn and reddit so the first big wave def hasn’t happened yet

If I just finished my 3rd year of undergrad, and have 84 credits, will they automatically reject me since it is not 90 credits? I still have one more year...
