What exactly does service learning activities entail? This does not really sound like academic coursework to me, but is it basically just community service then? Kinda confused.

I believe when they mention service learning they are discussing community outreach in the educational environment. So, perhaps a time you volunteered and engaged in reflection activities to connect it to coursework.

You can /probably/ talk about it outside of an academic context, like your own reflection work. Thats what I'm leaning towards, even though its not quite service learning.

I haven't gotten the secondary yet. Have I been screened out or is it too early to tell? Sorry if this is too neurotic its my first time applying so don't really understand how it all works.

I haven't gotten it either, I don't think many people have. As long as you meet their cutoffs (if they have any) you're completely fine.

Any other applicants who submitted their primary on the first day not get Cincinnati secondary yet? Kinda worried now
Don't worry about it! They send in waves like most other schools and we'll get one eventually, we're all in this together

+1 OOS but got a weird error when I tried to create the secondary account. Second email says I have to wait 1-2 business days before trying again?

Can anyone explain their interpretation of this question? I am not sure what I should even talk about

1. Are they asking how our non-science courses in college, including those that have included service to others, have prepared us for medicine?

2. Or how our non-clinical volunteering has prepared us for medicine?

The first part of the question asks about academic work beyond pre-med requirements, but the second part asks about service-learning activities. That seems contradictory to me.

stupid question but everyone else has gotten the DOB and SSN question on account creation too right? I just wanna be sure before inputting that info into a random website and make sure its not inbox phishing lol

I'd say the first one. I took it as them asking how non-STEM classes have prepared us with the specification to talk about any service learning courses/stuff you've done, if you have. I don't think they assume everyone has done SL. If it makes it any clearer, I took a healthcare-focused SL course through the Spanish department at my school where we volunteered w/ a local org for a grade in the class and then reflected on our experiences with the org. There's more to SL than that, but that's what I'll be writing about for that part of the prompt.

Wooow, this is going to be a tough one.

No I got that too!!!

Question 3 is worded a bit differently than a standard diversity prompt, curious how other people are approaching it.

Don't write your standard diversity essay. Write about a time you met someone from a diverse background. Maybe a time you interacted with a patient from a low SES background or saw the impact of systemic racism in real life

Did you ever figure this out? This keeps happening to me too every time I try to make an account again!

Does anyone know if it's disadvantageous to do a virtual interview?

I think the secondary mentions they don't see your preference until they are already offering an interview. I also doubt anyone would give you a hard time for picking virtual, just putting myself into an adcom's shoes.

yeah, I feel like it's so much easier to catch the vibe of an applicant in person, (and for the applicant, to catch the vibe of the school). But with work and all that jazz just makes it tough to travel.

Thanks for ur advice!!

my diversity essay discusses working with 1) immigrant patients that face language barriers and 2) tutoring a student with low SES and the struggles they faced academically. I elaborate on how both have application to medicine and the lessons/skills i learned. would that be fine?

In my diversity essay I spoke about working with patients who face language barriers, so I imagine that'd be fine.
