2024-2025 Emory

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mine had the grade as P for pass. I added it as the grade in my primary application because that is the grade in my transcripts. Check if you did that in your application and it has a grade.
Ok that makes sense since I didn't add the P/F for my AP courses because the AMCAS video on how to input APs didn't do it either. My transcript only shows credits and no grade either for APs. I sent my email to Emory admissions to see what my next steps are.

for essay 1 do we literally just list the courses we are taking for the fall semester and then I haven't scheduled for spring so should I just put the general course requirements I still need to take?

Just what you know, you can say when you will graduate & that spring 2025 courses are not determined

How are you guys answering "If you have any updates or new information to report since you have submitted your AMCAS primary application, please briefly describe below. (200 words)"? I have already talked about my gap year plans and new volunteering I have taken on in the first question.

Most of you who just submitted AMCAS in the last 2 months will not have anything to write here.
Later applicants could

This might be a dumb question but what counts within experiences in health? What about drawing portraits for patients at a hospital? Or working on books on pediatric illnesses? Working with elderly? They specifically say health-related and not clinical, so I'm unsure.

Drawing portraits for patients, and working on pediatric illness books, would surely fit into the broad category of experiences in health. Working with elderly may or may not, depending on if it was in a healthcare setting (versus, let's say, leading a book club at the neighborhood senior center).

what if i volunteered at an adult day care for people with memory loss? Not really healthcare but a place dedicated to a specific diagnosis

Briefly describe your health-related experiences. Be sure to include important experiences that are in your AMCAS application, as well as any recent experiences. (200 words)

How should I answer this without repeating what I put in my primary?

How should I answer this without repeating what I put in my primary?
You should do exactly that, reiterate on what's on your primary.
Often, the folks reviewing secondaries don't have full access to your primary or are blinded to specific sections of it. If they're asking specifically for you to include something on your primary, you probably should.

For the orgo requirement, I have taken Orgo I Lecture (4 credits) + Lab (2 credits) and Orgo II Lecture (4 credits). I meet the credit requirement but I am missing Orgo II Lab. Would this fulfill it or should I reach out to the school?

Is anyone else meeting the humanities requirements with AP credits? Per the website, that should be ok. But I don't want this secondary to be a donation 🙁

Hi everyone, I'm applying to Emory right now and I'm not really sure what makes the school stand out?? I know they're a super research heavy school with a bunch of specialized centers, but I'm someone with more of a humanities background...so I'm really struggling to answer this "Why Us" essay LMAO

Anyone have any tips?

They are not really that research heavy compared to other top schools like Penn or Yale.

Emory is more like UChicago with a strong focus on working with underserved populations and public health!

Ah okay, may I ask where you figure out these school focuses? Cuz when I read Emory's mission statement I wasn't able to gleam that:

We foster a culture that integrates leading edge basic, translational, and clinical research to further the ability to deliver quality health care, to predict illness and treat the sick, and to promote health of our patients and community.

How did everyone format their answer to #2? It would be ok to put them in list form, right? I can't imagine many people are able to fit their answer into a 200 word paragraph.

Submitted my application fee, but it is not showing up on the portal. I got a confirmation email but still nothing on the portal, which means I can't submit yet. Did anyone else have this issue?

I’m having the same issue. Did you ever figure out how to resolve it?

I think listing it out is fine. I put mine in a more narrative form, like "My first health-related experience was _____ where I learned _______. This inspired me to _________ where I had the opportunity to ____________.... etc." I truly don't think there is a right or wrong way.

Does anyone know how strict Emory is with their pre-requisites?

It says that a semester of biochemistry cannot replace the second semester of organic chemistry... I've used my Biochemistry course to satisfy the requirements at all the 30+ schools I've applied to. This is the only one that seems to have a different view on the matter.

Reach out to admissions and see if they will make an exception. If not, you may have to take orgo before matriculation.

"List your entire curriculum plan for the 2024-2025 academic year."

What if I'm still unsure about the classes I wanna take 😭 I finished all my pre med reqs and I'm trying to find some classes that will actually be fun but I'm not sure about my spring semester yet

Anyone else having trouble with the payment tab? I submitted the payment and even received an email saying that it was processed, yet, the tab still is not a green check mark. As a result, I cannot submit my application.
Did yours fix itself like @Iron Man23? I paid my fee last night and am waiting for it to sync so I can submit my application.

when you pay the fee, you have the click the "go back to application tab" at the top of your screen after you pay it, otherwise it doesn't go through all the way and isn't processed

I did, so I'm not sure why it isn't working.

did it reload the page maybe? I think there's a "go back" button on the bottom too, that might be the right one to use!!
I paid it last night, so I'm not sure what to do now. I used the "go back" button and am in the portal, but the fee is marked incomplete.

ooh I'm not sure then but I hope you figure it out! maybe it's just slower to update

Thank you! I'm not sure if emailing them would be appropriate or if I should wait. If anyone else had a similar experience, I'm all ears.
I think I did have to use the bottom button to get back so that is likely the right one to use!! for future folks applying 🙂

If you click MD/MPH as an option, why does it ask you to write another essay that isn't applying to the MPH program...?

"I hereby authorize my application materials to be shared with the Rollins School of Public Health. I understand that I am not formally applying to the MD/MPH program and that my application to the MD program at the School of Medicine will be processed independent of any status I may have with the Rollins School of Public Health."

Is the application portal not working for anyone else? I'm just getting a message that the website can't be reached.

The bottom button fixed it for me. Annoying that I had to pay twice, gonna have to dispute the first charge now but oh well. If only they didnt have two back buttons, one being on top of the page and in bright blue.

Hi what did you guys put for question #1 and #5, I am on my gap year and already put all these info in gap year and not sure what should I include in #5 same thing or leave blank as I already started working from 7/15.

I am in same situation and left #5 blank. I also talked about my gap year job in the health-related question so I felt like a third time discussing it would be overkill.

Should I be including research as a health-related experience? The research was purely health related not just science; specifically mental health.

Clinical research can definitely count as a health related experience IMO

Is this asking for one or all activities with underserved communities?

I just did my most significant one and talked more about how it related to what I wanted to do in the future

Does anyone know if I'd be able to use Biochemistry to satisfy the Chemistry with lab requirement?
