2024-2025 Hackensack Meridian

I’m pretty sure this school has a good bit of WL movement, so it’s definitely not over for you! When was your first interview?
I was first interviewed 10/02 and then again about two weeks later! Great to hear there's a chance.

do you know if a 2nd interview is a good thing or a bad thing? I just got one today so just asking couldn’t figure it out from past threads/reading online!

The 88% Post-II cant be accurate, right? From what I can tell, that number is based on having 437 interviews, and MSAR has the interviews at 653 which I assume is more recent. Assuming the amount of acceptances remains the same (~385), is it more likely that post II acceptance rate is closer to 50-60%? Or am I missing something?

I was told it is not a bad thing. Maybe we ought to track the correlation of Hack 2nd-ii vs A/WL over time to help others prioritize. At times like these, I find it important to remember that for every great moment witnessed on here with the A, there are hundreds of quiet moments of defeat and thousands of dollars spent in re-apps. So I am mentally and emotionally prepared for a re-app. Financially, as a non-trad, I am not thrilled. Could be way worse.

Shoulda prepped more, saved more, and applied next year. But we out here.

Was your first interview with a med student and second with a faculty member or the opposite? Maybe they want some applicants to be evaluated by both?

Thanks for the input and I really do hope it works out for you. Don’t give up just yet, I would start thinking about reapp starting mid january personally since that’s when like 90% of interviews have already been given out. And don’t discount WL movement, hackensack interviews and accepts like hundreds of people who will not be attending so there’ll be A LOT of WL movement come april/may time. Again, still an all around ****ty position to be in to find out last minute but what I’m trying to say is don’t give up you’ll hopefully find a way to get an A this cycle and i’m rooting for you

You guys are getting two interviews? I only had one faculty interview two weeks ago...

That’s interesting I wonder if folks who get interviewed by only a faculty member get one? I’m being interviewed by a med student so I’m wondering if I’ll be assigned a faculty member later or something.

Both faculty, one listed adcom member.

My impression is: I probably didn't give the strongest first interview, so maybe they wanted to give it one more shot haha.

WL for my daughter. This is her second cycle and I just feel so badly for her and honestly for all of you. This process is so rough. No one understands just how rough until they or their kid/spouse goes through it (and sometimes multiple times). It's just pretty brutal. Really hoping the waitlist moves--she is still in it! Gotta stay positive. And really hoping you all get A's, too. We desperately need more med schools and seats in current med schools because we need MORE DOCTORS.
Hang in there good people!

I also had 2 interviews, but I haven’t heard anything since. From what it seems, they have only sent out a batch of WL and no As or Rs?

i’m not exactly sure if a second interview is a good thing lol seems like they want to “clarify” some things or “get to know me more”.

It’s a good thing; they don’t have to give a second interview, which means the first interviewer probably liked you but there is something the committee wanted to clarify or that the person who first interviewed you wasn’t 100% sure about. Use it to your favor!

Responded to this below but can either means the team wants to clarify something or the first interviewer liked you but was uncertain about a certain thing. Go into the next one with confidence and be your authentic self. Politeness and openness will get you far!

preliminary review complete email 11/7. approximately how long after that email did people get invites (for those who got them)?

I think the increase in interviews is due to the increase in class size. During the info session, one of the deans mentioned that they had been ramping up the class size every couple of years, now at a size of 140 students. I'm not sure what year the data on admit.org is from, but I imagine that with a larger class size comes more interviews and likely a similar percentage of acceptances to maintain their yield.

I’m just surprised because admit.com says there’s an 88% acceptance rate?? Idk how true that is
I believe that includes waitlist movement. Also they have been increasing their class size every couple of years and that data might be old, with a larger class size that might mean a different ratio of II:A, II:W, or II:R. However I imagine those ratios might remain consistent unless they drastically increased the number of interviews they offer per seat.

It's entirely possible, optimistically!

Even with waitlist movement though, most schools have below a 50% acceptance rate. Hackensack is 88% and 91% in state which sounds crazy, wonder if its true

Don't wanna get bogged down in semantics but... I dislike what that probably implies about me.

Yeah I'm skeptical as well, one thing to note is that hackensack is a fairly new school with higher than average stats, it could be that many of the students they interview and accept get accepted to more desirable schools. Being newer, they are probably collecting data on how to optimize their yield and want to make sure they fill their class as well so they offer a surplus of acceptances as a result.

Yeah this seems like the most valid logic. We might’ve missed out on the peak years of Hackensack accepting everyone 😭

Does anyone have an idea of what their actual acceptance rate of people who have interviewed?

The best data available suggests it is in fact ~88% after waitlist movement. This isn't unheard of either for MD schools its just less common. Other schools have similar acceptance rates such as UVA, UMich, Howard, Toledo, Wright state.

I just received a pre-lim review complete. How long does it take to hear back regarding an interview?

MSAR says acceptances will start going out this month, so that would give us today and tomorrow before the holiday. Fingers crossed, but I know I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up any As will go out until after Thanksgiving…
