For those who got a II. Would anyone like to trade interview spots? I have a date for AM on November 6th but I might have a scheduling conflict. Would greatly prefer to interview in November but on a later date.

For those who interviewed did they send any information prior to the interview? I have one later in the month and haven’t received anything

Are you interviewing Oct 16 or later? I am interviewing on the 16th and got an email ~11AM ET today with more info. If you're later this month then maybe they will send it out in a few days!

anyone willing to share a bit about their interview experience?
I interviewed here today! Overall had a really positive experience 🙂 Unlike other schools, there isn't really an info session where they "pitch" the school to you, but before the interview, they give you various documents and videos to learn about the school. The main interview section is MMI (7 scenario stations, 1 open file station, 1 rest station). These are mostly your typical scenario-based MMI kind of questions. I really liked all of my interviewers and had some great discussions! You then get to do a mock case study of sorts with your fellow interviewees (to mimic PEARLs) but this is not assessed, and then there is half an hour to chat with students!

Much appreciated! Cheers, and I hope you get in :luck:!

would u say the MMI stations (besides the open-file trad station) were all made-up scenarios like casper or did they ask some trad questions in there too?

Without getting into too much detail, I would say it is not a bad idea to have some traditional question answers, but it may not be necessary

Was it like they showed the prompt and you were allowed to take notes? Or did they read it out and no note-taking? Thank you for your help! Interviewing this week 🙂

Are thank you notes encouraged? I never know whether it's worth writing a thank you note for MMI style interviews where you don't get a great connection with the interviewer

You could send a general thank you letter to the interviewers, deans, and everyone else who played a role in setting up the interview session. I did that for my other MMIs (I have not interviewed here).

^I did this for my interview here! And if there was a particular station that was memorable I wrote about that too.

does anyone have any general advice for Hofstra's interview/can speak on what the vibes were like ;-; freaking out but idk if I'm overreacting

Just had it today. Really wasn't bad at all, low stress MMI. Typical ethical questions and a few other questions, but no genuine curveballs if you've done MMI prep! Trad interview was fine too. On the short end since it's technically an MMI station, but other than that it resembled a standard adcom interview.

Do you have any recommendations for MMI prep?
I watched YouTube videos that covered practice scenarios and also read through some of the expert answers here to get an idea of how to formulate responses.

In my answers, I acknowledge the merits of each option, and then reason using the 4 ethical pillars of medicine: Beneficence, Non-Maleficence, Autonomy, and Justice. In making a final decision, I find that Autonomy is usually the most important, as it should almost never be violated.

For example, if a patient decides they don't want a life saving medication, you can't force them if they are of sound mind (Autonomy). However, you can still do your duty to Beneficence and Non-Maleficence by ensuring they fully understand the consequences and by doing your best to convince them otherwise (without being pushy). In this example, Beneficence and Non-Maleficence take a back-seat to Autonomy, but are still important to consider and acknowledge.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! So most of the scenarios are going to be standard ethical questions? I'm mostly concerned about role play and odd behavioral questions.
In my experience, not any role play. I would also say though that they're not all standard ethical questions ---- at lesst one weird "What would you do and why?" question that seemed to have unclear connections to the 4 tenets of biomedical ethics.
In total, not too hard.

Anyone know when they stop inviting people for interviews?
“Our interview season runs from September through February and invitations to interview are sent throughout this timeframe.”

From their secondary portal.

congrats on the II! Just wondering, but what dates were still available?
they're pretty much all booked out, I was stunned..they have me scheduled for mid-February. They did say they might add some more dates sooner but I can't even see the availability unless I release my current interview date so I guess I'm stuck near the very end :,))

can anyone speak on if the follow-up questions were stressful or if they were kinda expected/not too difficult

also whats the trad interview like? how can they ask questions to get to know u in just 15 minutes???

For the most part they were focused on any information your initial answer to the prompt was missing and sorta helped lead you to a more complete answer. They weren't too difficult and there was sometimes even time for you to ask questions at the end.

Nothing too crazy just general questions and it was much more conversational than I expected! This is the only station that is open-file so just be prepared to answer questions about your application.

mandatory or non mandatory classes 🤔
Classes are nominally mandatory, usually from 8 to 12 or 1 at the absolute latest. You can get away with missing a decent number of lectures if you need to, but usually not small group stuff (PEARLS, etc). Not ideal but wasn't a dealbreaker for me. My classmates are awesome and the environment is very non-gunner which was more important to me in the end.

does hofstra like update letters? i interviewed in early september but don't remember if they mentioned it. would it be worth sending an update post-II but pre-hearing back?

Same here! Also when are the first set of decisions coming out?

Do you know if there is a website or somewhere I can see the schools that are fine with LOI before decision?

Every school is fine with an LOI before a decision, but the adcoms on here highly recommend not sending one before a decision is made. An LOI won’t prevent a post-II rejection, and in the case of a waitlist or deferral, you won’t have anything left to send if you’ve already sent a LOI. This is why it’s best to wait!

The reason I specifically mentioned Mayo as an exception is due to them outright asking for one.
