OOS secondary received early this morning! 🙂

Questions (All are 250 word limits)
Have you or any member of your family ever been employed by or on staff at either Hofstra University or any entity of the Northwell Health System? Y/N
If yes, please explain

Would you like your application to be considered in tandem with another applicant who is in this current cycle (i.e., spouse, significant other)? Y/N
If yes: Please provide their First name, Last Name, AAMC ID number and an explanation of the connection.

Are you currently matriculated in a full-time program. (Undergraduate, Masters or PhD)? Y/N
If no: Please indicate what you have been doing since the time of graduation until now.

Was your undergraduate education interrupted for any reason and you were not enrolled in classes?Y/N
If yes: Please indicate the reasons, the duration of the interruption, and how you spent your time. This does not include time between programs post-graduation.

Excluding BS-BA/MD programs, have you previously applied to an allopathic medical school, even if not ours?Y/N
If yes, what year(s)? and what was the outcome?

A pipeline/pathway program is a program designed to provide students with a structured series of courses, activities, and support services to help them achieve academic and career success. Have you taken part in a STEM/medicine pipeline/pathway program, either at the high school or college level (ours or elsewhere)? Y/N
If yes, how do you feel this experience helped prepare you for success in medical school?

Have you ever been subject to any investigations, actions, or convictions (either institutional or legal)? Y/N
If yes, please explain

Explain why the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is a good fit for your medical education journey?

“The School of Medicine, in a culture of community, scholarship and innovation, is dedicated to inspiring diverse, promising students to lead and transform medicine for the betterment of humanity.” How do you feel you would contribute to the Zucker School of Medicine’s mission and values and where do you see this taking you in the future?

Is anyone's secondary application bugged out. Mine isn't letting me go past 216 words for the gap year question.

Does this school have an IS bias?
It seems like it, yes, based on how many in-states matriculate here based on MSAR. However, I think there are many OOS acceptances, but they like high stats, and those individuals go elsewhere.

While not a strong bias, it does seem that you have a higher chance of getting an interview if you are IS vs OOS.

357/1551 vs 465/3467

Likewise, 65 IS matriculants vs 35 OOS. None of this tells the full story but it gives the impression that there is some IS bias.

Is the second prompt “The School of Medicine, in a culture of community, scholarship and innovation, is dedicated to inspiring diverse, promising students to lead and transform medicine for the betterment of humanity.” How do you feel you would contribute to the Zucker School of Medicine’s mission and values and where do you see this taking you in the future? (250 words)

essentially just a diversity prompt?

Pretty much.

If I did a 2-year research program for transfer students at my university and it pretty much had courses we took, activities we had to do and support service and scholarship. can I put it? it was a 18 student program so it was small. it did not say pipeline or pathway in the name or description.

For "Are you currently matriculated in a full-time program. (Undergraduate, Masters or PhD)? Y/N
If no: Please indicate what you have been doing since the time of graduation until now." Do you think it would look bad to also include plans until matriculation? I'm struggling to get even close to 250 words with only what I've done since graduation.

OOS 2nd received yesterday.
I do have a question - when I try to click on the secondary application link, I get an error page saying the site can't be reached. I've tried incognito and also different browsers and still doesn't work. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else - or if it is a simple fixable issue on my end 😳 If not, I will email the school. Thanks!

Would it be back to abbreviate their school as ZSOM in the secondary?

Hi all, I have a question for reapplicants. For question 5, do you list the specific school names from last cycle that offered interviews or just simply mention how many schools gave interview invitation and what the results are (eg: wl to rej or post-interview rej)? Also, I didn't apply to Hofstra last cycle, do I need to include why or how I improved...? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I had pretty much the same question. I literally just graduated in May so I haven't done much except work on my applications lol

they also asked, "In addition, as a reminder, we ask if you have taken the AAMC PREview exam, to elect to send us your scores." my PREview score is already on my AMCAS app, is that fine or do i need to upload it somewhere separately?

Nope.
Just like the MCAT, the PREview score is attached permanently to your AMCAS primary. Nothing else is needed

For the letter requirements, would a non-academic professional be a PI or a volunteer/employment supervisor?

I think professors or PI both would be academic. I personally used a physician letter. A volunteer/employment supervisor would def count.

Unfortunately, you do not meet one or more of the following criteria required to receive our secondary application and be considered for admission:

  1. Completion of, or in the process of completing, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university (the completion of the degree is required prior to matriculation)
  2. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or hold DACA status.
  3. Completion of or registered to take the MCAT exam within the last 3 years (The final MCAT exam accepted for the cycle is the last test date given in September)
Did anyone received this, I just saw this as I was trying to look for login info. I have met all 3 of the requirements for secondary application. I have no idea what cause them to get this kind of error. I am receiving all other secondaries, I did made an error about program mode to be "graduate" instead of "undergraduate" but AMCAS already fixed that problem. So I am not sure this is the only school.
Send the ADCOM an email. This should be as simple as telling them you qualify.
They want your money, after all.

Does Hofstra send IIs to what they consider top candidates first or just in the order they reviewed batches?
