Lol received the secondary acknowledgment 8/18, hoping to receive the reviewed sooner or later 🙁

Has anyone from 8/18 or later received the application reviewed email?

Is it too late to submit a secondary here? How much does Howard value the two week turnaround? It's been a few weeks since I got mine...

Question to all. If I submitted my secondary was I supposed to get a “your application is complete” email or any type of email right away that they received it ?

Has anyone attended an open house (zoom one on Fridays)? How was your experience?

i attended the one last month and it had over 200 ppl on the zoom. there were two faculty & a couple med students who went over the curriculum. overall pretty laid-back!! they provided an opportunity to ask questions at the end 🙂

BLACK PEOPLE ONLY please reply?

Hey peeps...

I am white, and have had a few different black people in my life suggest I apply to differing HBCU's. Just had a mock interview the other day with a black med student at a HBCU who encouraged me to apply there. I certainly have qualifications as to why these people would believe me to be a decent fit for these schools - I'm certainly a pro-black individual and have done relevant allyship work academically, volunteering-wise, etc. and definitely feel a motivation to act regarding racial health disparities and making medicine more inclusive. But one person seemed less than excited about the idea, my ex who basically told me white people at HBCU's are kind of made fun of behind their backs. Lol. I am a shy person and don't necessarily want to attract a whole lot of attention, and my desire to not be made fun of not necessarily just by black people but white people as well did influence me to not apply to HBCU in undergrad. I do feel a little uneasy about any potential ethical implications of me overstepping "my place," or what not. Like, I don't want to be taking a spot from a black student, and feel the guilt for that. Umm... I don't know if I should be applying to these schools because I don't want to go somewhere where I may be unwelcome or break up the safe environment for black people. I imagine that even if I got accepted, I'm just not sure if I would do more harm than good by attending. Please share your opinions if you feel so inclined! Thank you

I'm an M1 and there's plenty of white people ( among other ethnicities, Asian, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic etc. ) in our class and nobody cares at all. We're all just focused on getting through medical school together. There's no ethical implications if you're honest on your app; if you feel you'd be a good fit and you're interested in the school then apply. Howard welcomes anyone, and if you do get Accepted you wouldn't be "taking" anyone's spot, it would be yours, you earned it according to the Howard Admissions Committee, who imo are the only opinion that matters.

Why do you want to go to an HBCU as a white person? This is me genuinely asking and I think it may also help answer your question as well.

I would imagine they just want to be a doctor and see Howard more as a med school than through a racial lens

For people who have interviewed already, what is the interviewed applicant supplemental form (and why do they say it takes at least 60 mins to complete)?

Honestly I'm really open to any medical school that is in a location I feel comfortable living in, which DC is. Current II I have are for more conservative locations I would not feel super comfortable living in. I'm actually kind of scared. I feel safe and comfortable around black people, in a pro-black environment accepting of diversity, much more than I would in MAGA-country where I'd feel unsafe and like a target for certain traits about me. I've always had bad experiences in conservative environments. I've attended a majority black school before, though not a HBCU, it was K-12, and things were fine.
I mean if you feel like your mission and goals for your career align with Howard’s go for it. If you’re admitted you earned your spot, not took it away from anyone else. Although I will say Howard is pretty mission focused so idk if you’d get in if your reason for applying is just that you like the location

I agree with this, there are plenty other schools in DC as well. GW also has a mission focused on the underserved. You may need to think a bit more about “Why Howard?” before applying. But best of luck!

Hello, I've been going through a lot with some personal things back home, and was wondering if you all think it is too late to submit my secondary? I would absolutely die to go to this school, and I'm not sure if it would look bad to send it late or wait till next cycle. Ik some HBCU's are pretty lenient about the TL but I wasn't sure.

Submit!

idk if i should be worried. i got the secondary acknowledgment email 8/31 but still have not got the reviewed email

i got a primary and secondary reviewed email 10/10, how soon after do ppl hear back about interviews??

I am a Canadian undergrad looking to apply to Howard, I have to re-write my MCAT in January and didn't submit primaries yet. Would it be a waste of money to apply this cycle. Also do you think international students have much higher MCAT scores than US applicants in MSAR.

I don't have much knowledge on your second inquiry, but for the first one, yes i do think it's a bit late to submit your primary app at this point in the cycle. most schools that go in chronological order haven't even gotten to august submitted secondaries yet. but if you think you have a solid shot and feel financially stable enough to apply to schools this cycle, go for it.
