2024-2025 Illinois Secondary Prompts (questions 1-5 required, #6,7 if applicable)
"No character limit is indicated, brevity is typically appreciated by schools as rule of thumb"

1. What characteristics, qualities, or attributes do you possess that have helped you to deal with conflict and change?

2. Which characteristics, qualities, or attributes of UICOM attracted you to apply for medical school here?

3. An important part of UICOM’s identity is the concept of “one college, three campuses.” The curriculum is identical on each campus; however, each campus has unique characteristics. Please describe what you have learned about at least two of our three campuses.

4. What are some of the causes and consequences of prejudice and injustice? What does an individual’s response to prejudice and injustice reveal about their character? What is the role of a bystander who witnesses prejudice or injustice?

5. UICOM values a wide range of perspectives. Describe an aspect of your own perspective, value system, or lived experience that is important to you and how it would contribute to the diverse and collaborative community at UICOM.

6. Have you applied for admission to medical school previously?
Yes/No
If you are reapplying this year please describe what you have done during the past year.

7. Have you ever matriculated into and not completed a professional/graduate program?
Yes/No
Please describe the circumstances of why you did not complete the program of study.

Good luck to all applying!

Good luck fellow soldiers you might be waiting a while, I didn't get my II until March lol

Also here to say I didn’t get my II til March. Got the A and hoping to give hope to low mcat high gpa students out there. At a certain point you will doubt yourself, stress out, and think your chance is blown. Don’t give up, it really isn’t over til the rejection email is in your inbox. Feel free to DM questions, good luck all!

The entire secondary application is exactly the same as last year @wysdoc.

I am an early decision applicant, so regular decision applicants might still be waiting a bit. Good luck, everyone.

I believe they do; lots of current students say it takes a while to receive secondary invites and that they still send invites into March and April
per MSAR: select individuals will receive secondaries, although it says there is no minimum mcat or gpa for screening

so I'm not really sure

+ 1 OOS with significant ties

their "screening" is very vague per their site and amcas. looks like "only elligible students" receive them, but no mention of stat cut offs or what the elligibility is. perhaps course reqs? really not sure.

What is a good word count to use as a soft limit for brevity? I was thinking maybe 250-300, or is that too much?

Is anyone else seeing MCAT Score not received on their status page? Any cause for concern? Or just taking some time to update?

when you say low mcat, what range do you think qualifies for this?

lol it is uncommon. Very few state schools have that high of oos tuition
Illinois Medical District (IMD) lowers the barriers to care for many patients from marginalized communities. UIC is the most important academic center in the IMD and I think the extra $15k per year for OOS students must directly/indirectly fund IMD programs.

On the flip side, you will get an unparalleled clinical experience during your rotations, seeing patients from diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

I know it is easier said than done but if you can get a scholarship that covers at least a chunk of the OOS tuition or get accepted into the MSTP/MD-PhD program which covers your entire COA, then you can derive the benefits of the IMD environment without breaking the bank.

anyone have an international documentation tab in status? there’s nothing to fill out on the portal but my app isn’t complete bc of that and i’m a citizen of the usa

does your letter of recommendation tab show up as approved? or is there a red x beside it?

How brief should we be explaining our special interests? There's no limit but the text field makes it difficult to read if it's anything more than two sentences long.

Is it okay to only talk about the Chicago campus for why I applied to UIC or will that look bad? Should I keep my reasons general to all three campuses?

The essay prompt #3 specifically asks you to write about at least 2 of the 3 campuses.
If you wish, leave off the one that is lowest in your preference but answer the question. You can briefly say why you prefer Chicago

Take the time to learn about another campus (or all 3). It'll show you've actually put in a little effort to understand the benefits each campus can provide which is never a negative in your essays. Besides, there is a non-zero chance that if you get the A you end up at Rockford or Peoria instead of Chicago, so it's best to know at least a little bit about them at this stage.

I was marked as complete shortly after submitting my secondary.
Interesting, I received the the email thanking me for submitting the secondary application, but on the portal my app still has a red x beside it
