2024-2025 Louisville Secondary Essay Prompts:

1. Why are you choosing to apply to the University of Louisville School of Medicine? (500 char)

2. Academic productivity and the ability to engage in extracurricular achievements can be impacted by a number of challenges. For example, students who come from rural areas, who held regular employment during college years, or who are the first in their families to graduate from college may not have the same access to opportunities and support as students from other environments. Adversity can shape both the person you are and what you have to offer your future classmates, colleagues and patients. Please describe any challenges that you consider significant in your lived experience. (500 char)

3. What has been your most significant contribution to your community, through service or volunteerism? What was its impact on the community and on you? (1000 char)

4. The University of Louisville School of Medicine’s mission is to improve the health of our patients and the diverse communities we serve through excellence and leadership in education, patient care, research and community engagement. Describe how your life experiences and personal attributes prepare you to provide excellent and equitable care to diverse patient populations. (500 char)

5. Which areas of medical practice are you interested in pursuing during residency? How do you see yourself practicing medicine after residency training, including location? (500 char)

6. If you are not a Kentucky resident, please explain any personal or familial ties to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. If you are a Kentucky resident type "Not Applicable" in the text box below. (500 char)

Good luck to all applying!

IS secondary received on 7/8. I submitted that night, on 7/9 got an email that my LOR are not all submitted.

My last letter got submitted yesterday (7/14). Has anybody received any confirmation email marking their secondary as complete and under consideration?

Yes, I have!

Yes, I have!

Thanks! I’m a bit nervous that I haven’t received any confirmation yet with AMCAS receiving my last letter on Sunday. Do you mind sharing how long before you received your confirmation?

I submitted my secondary 8/1, but my letters were uploaded late (Monday, 8/12)...Last email I rec'd stated that my letters did not meet the requirements, but that was 8/5 before they were uploaded. Should I email and ask if the letters have arrived or nah?

Hey everyone, is anyone familiar with ULSOM’s processes and know if they send out II in waves? I would assume the next wave should be sent out soon no? Thanks!

I would wait a couple more days personally in case you get the complete email.

Hi everyone! Just submitted my secondary. Did you all receive a confirmation that your application was complete after completing the secondary? I didn't see a "submit application" button on their portal, so I presume the application is submitted after we pay for the secondary?

To those who received an II, what were the dates available? Thanks.

I just received my II yesterday! There were only 2 options, Sept 3rd and Sept 5th. By the time I decided which date I wanted, the only option was the 5th so very limited spots for each day.

For those with II:
a. congratulations!
b. when was your secondary marked complete vs when did you receive your II?

My interview is coming up - any tips from people who have had theirs? What was the vibe like

Good luck everyone!

Finally decided to make an SDN account instead of lurk... submitted my secondary 7/9, II 8/21, Interview first week of Sept. OOS but very strong ties. LM approx 69, but heavy research (6 years) and kind of non-trad (didn't decide to go to Med school until about 2 years ago and post graduation, will have 3 gap years by matriculation with all of them full time research fellowship--both basic and clinical).

They make you sign a confidentiality agreement so you cannot share interview details and cannot email your interviewers directly FYI. Though I think its common knowledge/okay to say that this year they aren't fully rolling decisions. They have I believe 3 decision dates this year (before the waitlist) and if you interviewed before it you WILL get an update that day of either an acceptance, "hold for further review", or rejection. If you interviewed like right before the decision date (first one 10/15, I am spooked!) you will likely get put on "hold for further review", but do NOT get discouraged by that, they likely just haven't got to discuss you yet post interview. Also, "hold for further review" is not the waitlist until the final decision date they have. Just trying to keep people from being panicked or discouraged! Best of luck to everyone 🙂

Just submitted a late primary here. Was this a bad idea if I have no ties to the state?

Congratulations on the Interview and wishing you the best of luck on 10/15! Thank you for this information, do you know when other decision dates are?

You truly never can know, but they are extremely in state heavy/want you to practice in KY once you are a physician. They only matriculate approx 45 OOS students a year (and out those we can’t know how many have state ties or are from neighboring states). So the odds may be somewhat slim, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be one of the few 🙂 Did you receive a secondary? I think they may screen pre-secondary. If this is a late addition out of a last ditch effort I would still submit the secondary because you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, but if you have confidence or a lot of schools already you will likely need to weigh the financial decision of paying for a secondary with the odds. Best of luck!

Appreciate you! Got the secondary. I would honestly be open to staying and practicing wherever I go to school and I'll express that. I'll post any updates!
