Based on previous years, the big acceptance day is likely going to be next week on Thursday or Friday.

Current M1 at UNMC here 🙂 came to check this thread since I remember how much I wanted more info when I was deciding where to go last year.

From my experience and my friends' experiences who are M2s/M3s/M4s and even current residents, I do not think this is true. Last year's class had one individual who had to repeat the year and they are currently in my class now. Overall they are extremely willing to work with students who are struggling/students who have failed blocks, and 94% graduate in four years (this was stated as a percentage during our Orientation week presentation). Even if you fall below the pass rate for a block, they consider personal circumstances/etc, and make decisions with everything in mind. The admin is much more receptive than other schools I've heard about, and actively asks for feedback after every single block and actually changes things rather than just getting feedback and doing nothing. We have had insane changes to prioritize medical student wellness even when comparing two years ago to now. For further context in comparing schools, I have friends at Creighton Med who have shared a strong dislike for their admin and overall schedule as it does not promote student wellness at all (only having one exam per block, no off weekends, etc compared to UNMC where we get every other weekend completely off). Not saying one is better than the other, but just what I have heard and experienced.

Also for context, UNMC does not run a Carribean School contrary to the other person's comment. They are however opening a new medical school satellite location in Kearney focused on rural Nebraska healthcare in 2026 I believe.

Current UNMC student here. None of this is true. The most recent class of 2024 graduated 129 students. Incoming class was 132. This is published information. You should take this down dude, it’s embarrassingly false.

congrats on getting in and finishing your first semester. it’s hard to get full transparency through formal means ya kno so thanks for responding and getting the conversation going✊🏾

imma be straight up since its a big decision. you’re the first m1 i’ve talked to, so i get that your perspective might be a bit different. it’s just that im hearing things from other students, different about how you said the school is "actually making changes" and "insane changes to prioritize medical student wellness." like you said the off weekend is a pro fasho. cons we talked about were lectures the day before exams or close to the exam so theres no time to review/spaced repetition, overemphasis on stuff that doesn’t really tie into the boards, then the tests in house. con was the tests dont look like boards but have so much low yield on it from lectures being less focused that it wont let you outside study. so they dont help with with boards stuff and expect it from you was the gist of it

a pro was that the transitions course to clerkship helps but they said they felt the burn out in the required clerkships. ie michigan is 12 months including transtions and allows flexibility in that to do an elective. unmc goes extra month of required clerkships which are in limited choices and you may not take an elective. since i want to do rads, i would need to wait till the last year to rotate in it .

the clerkship stuff you havent done and i think boards are toward the end of M1 or after, so i get if you might not be able to speak to everything they said. now dont even trip imma keep it real imma be direct✊🏾 i got respect for you man

There was an IS A on Wednesday of this week. Are you IS or OOS? In the past, more people posted when they got acceptances. So either we get lucky and they do some OOS acceptances today, or we have to wait.

I was also pretty confused when the A email came on Wednesday; the attached letter was even dated to today (Jan 17), so I think Friday is the norm.

Wow...I really feel for that one person, humiliating for everyone to see you as the "one" that had to repeat. I am sure better than the alternative, but brutal.
 
Has anyone who got deferred to the regular cycle from EDP heard anything yet?
 
Does anyone by any chance know UNMCs match rate? And also when scholarships are awarded?

my advice is do not use match rates to factor into where you go.They are often used more as a placement rate as they include those who soaped, which is really misleading. Some schools even report their students matching to "research years" .... Furthermore, schools will generally keep their pre-SOAP match lists and rates internal so most will never know the real data.

Match lists can be used but carefully... There are plenty of other things that can help predict your happiness and success at a school.

And as for scholarships, I was told May/June. Note that they are not for all 4 years, just your year of admission.

Sorry to hear that it didn’t go your way this time😞 Seems like our application was pretty similar (besides 8k clinical hours I’m not even close to that). What is your LizzyM score if you don’t mind sharing?
