*Note, this year secondary questions are written*

Essay Prompt #1: The Burnett School of Medicine defines empathetic scholars with these eight traits: Compassion, Teachability, Altruism, Insight, Humility, Collaboration, Integrity, & Respect.

a) Which trait do you think you embody most and how will that be valuable to patient care?
b) Which trait might you need to improve upon? How will you improve in this area and how will this be of value in your role as a physician?

Both a) and b) above need to be answered in the same prompt with 300 words or less.

Essay Prompt #2: Characteristics of an aspiring MD. Describe any personal qualities and/or lived experiences that add context to your application that shape who you are as an individual and aspiring healthcare leader. (300 word limit)

Good luck to all applying!

Remember to schedule your Casper exam. Duet is required.

Thinking about applying here as I feel a strong mission fit+hometown ties to north Texas. As in my application is ready to submit today, however 2 things I’m considering.
1) I won’t have an MCAT score till July 2nd. As a low GPA applicant with upward trend for 40 credits (3.28 cGPA, 3.04sGPA) I’m wondering what a realistic MCAT score would make me competitive here and if I should wait to see my score as I’m not made of money and don’t want to flush $200 for the only AMCAS school I’d apply to.
2) I’m worried if I wait until I see my MCAT score and it is considered competitive then I’m disadvantaging myself by applying a month later effectively. Would love to hear your thoughts! @wysdoc

Received a C in biochem but was planning on retaking it online if I get past the secondary and also have not taken physiology but could take easily and make an A (degree does not require it). Is it worth applying? this would be my absolute top choice as my parents live in the Dallas area and have the most incredible support system here but also have a 505 mcat and a 3.7 GPA and a strong mission fit. Would they still consider me? @wysdoc

They do specify a B minus or better for all prerequisites, you would have to retake biochem to qualify.

anyone receive anything yet? saw someone on reddit claiming they received TCU’s secondary invite

OOS Secondary received.

Hello! Was there any screening process for secondary invitations other than minimum a MCAT and GPA? I'm seeing contradictory information from MSAR, past SDN threads, and the TCU admission website. Thanks in advance.

Secondary invitations will be sent after an initial review for the 2024-2025 cycle. MSAR has the most up-to-date information for this current cycle. If you do find contradictory information between our website and MSAR, please reach out to MDAdmissions@tcu.edu and let us know. We truly value applicant/student feedback and want to ensure information is as clear and transparent as possible!

If I took a course called "Human Physiology," does this meet the physiology course requirement for TCU?

I checked their website, but it wasn't completely clear since I did not take Anatomy & Physiology.

Hello! This would likely count, although please send the syllabus to MDAdmissions@tcu.edu for review and confirmation. The requirement to satisfy the physiology pre-requisite is to take Anatomy & Physiology 1 and 2 or a physiology specific course.

OOS Secondary received this morning. @wysdoc

Looks like they were already posted 🙂

I like how the secondary lists the drugs in the drug panel as well as specifies that in-class attendance is mandatory!

Anyone else having trouble gaining access to the portal?

I used the Account Creation link, and it said that an email was sent to my email address, but it wasn’t! My AAMC email address is the same that I’ve been using for secondaries, and for all of my other account creations, the emails were sent to the same email address. I’ve had no issues prior to this one!
Anyone know how to resolve the issue? I’ve checked my spam and junk mails.

Additionally as an FYI -- we will begin our interview season earlier than in prior years. We anticipate beginning interviews later in July, so we encourage applicants to complete their secondaries as soon as possible!
Out of curiosity, if your interviews are beginning to be conducted in late July, when are interview invitations expected to be sent if you know? Thanks!

Hello, I saw in the email with the secondary link that Casper and Duet are required for this application cycle. However, I didn't find corresponding information on the actual secondary application. I will take it on July 9th; how much would it delay my application? Would my application not be reviewed until my score is received?

Thank you!

Thanks so much for reaching out. This is the first that we have heard of this issue, but will look into it and respond via email.

We review applications on a rolling basis, but do not consider applications to be complete until we receive both Casper and Duet scores.

Is there a reason that my portal can be showing that my application is incomplete? Does it have to be updated by hand?

I believe that everything has been sent in (LOR, Casper and Duet, Transcripts, Secondary). am I missing anything?

It may be a system delay or your application is manually marked complete. Wait until Monday

This is the first day any school got your AMCAS app. You are missing patience!

OOS secondary received 6/29/24
AMCAS submitted 6/3/24, verified 6/26/24

happend to me to, TCU probably goes and manually marks them as complete since they only send secondaries to selective people.

Hi! One quick question. I have a physiology course as well that may the syllabus reviewed as it is not explicitly called “Anatomy & Physiology”. On the secondary app, should I just input the course then email admissions after or should I wait to retrieve the syllabus. Unfortunately, I have to email my institution to retrieve a copy of the syllabus as I don’t have access to my school email after graduating and I don’t want to delay my secondary app if I have everything squared away except this! Thank you!!

@SOM Admissions, does TCU consider physiology class taken as a graduate student ? The content of the syllabus is the same as outlined on TCU website except I had to do extra research as a graduate student.

You can go ahead and list it on your secondary and then we can review once received.

does TCU screen for secondaries or no? i'm not sure what this means from MSAR, "Secondary applications are sent directly to TCU for review." thx!

Maybe just MCAT/GPA. I got the secondary really early when primary applications were transmitted. I don't think anyone has read my application yet.

I stand corrected 🙂 see below. I'm actually shocked to hear that they have already read my primary.

OOS Secondary received 6/29 and submitted today. I was deep in the woods when it was sent, so I didn’t have service to see it until late last night.

Hi! I have a quick question about prerequisites. Can an Intro to Anthropology class count as a humanities course, or is it only a social science? I noticed some schools consider Anthropology as a humanities course, but wanted to double-check since the TCU website mentions that cultural anthropology is a social science course. Thanks!

Does anyone know if TCU will consider you for II if you’re missing some LOR/not marked complete on portal ? I submitted my secondary but am still waiting on one more LOR.
Yes, you are still considered as long as you have one LOR in your packet. However, we recommend three LOR's.

As we review applications holistically, we will check to see if applicants have not yet met prerequisite requirements and notify applicants as necessary. A missing prerequisite does NOT disqualify you from applying or moving forward in the process. All applicants have until June 1 of their matriculating year to ensure all coursework has been completed.
