Thanks! Can you also confirm there being a #8 and that #7 has no character limit whatsoever?5(list hobbies) is 150 words. I just double-checked. Pre-writing is worth it if you care about your turnaround time.
Makes a difference for me...I started college in 2021-2022 and I wasn't able to have a single clinical experience that year because of COVID.im surprised they still included the covid question like bro how has covid impacted anyones application for this cycle. covid was like a million years ago,
for secondaries, do you know if we can use acrynoms like TUSOM instead of tulane medical school, or NOLA instead of new orleansWas your source Tulane itself?
The gap year essay and COVID essays have no word limits(Question 8 is only if you have graduated so it might not apply). There are also some brief description opportunities if you did Americorps, Peace Corps, Teach for America, or volunteer/study abroad. I don't. remember the limits for those and can't go back to check as they didn't apply. Thanks! Can you also confirm there being a #8 and that #7 has no character limit whatsoever?
They used Tulane/ Tulane University School of Medicine and New Orleans. I've heard if you want to use acronyms just clarify it first then proceed.for secondaries, do you know if we can use acrynoms like TUSOM instead of tulane medical school, or NOLA instead of new orleans
@havil the point of using acronyms is to save characters in your essay when the character count is low. Tulane is a short word!for secondaries, do you know if we can use acrynoms like TUSOM instead of tulane medical school, or NOLA instead of new orleans
ya but tulane school o f medicine is 4 words, or can i just say tulane instead@havil the point of using acronyms is to save characters in your essay when the character count is low. Tulane is a short word!
Yes.ya but tulane school o f medicine is 4 words, or can i just say tulane instead
Most schools do not have a specific question about it but I think you could always write about it in an "anything else?" essay.Gotcha, thanks. I did take gap years and did Peace Corps, so I guess everything applies to me. Do you know if most schools have a question on their secondaries about Americorps/PC/TFA/etc? Haven't seen a question about them listed on any school's secondary forum.
speak of the devil +1 OOSanyone else still not get a secondary yet
nah i still haven't gotten and i submitted 5/28 🙁anyone else still not get a secondary yet
Still haven't received and I submitted 5/28 too ugh
But would answering this question positively impact your application?OPTIONAL: The following questions are optional. Declining to answer a question will not negatively impact your application in any way.
If you do, I think it is still helpful. You’re sharing a extra perspective on who you are which may help a reviewer understand your journey betterBut would answering this question positively impact your application?
I answered this question last year (do you identify as a group that is underrepresented in healthcare?), but I am not sure if I should answer it this time.
Those should be fine but maybe be more specific. Like do you sing, play an instrument, or just enjoy listening to music(simply an example to showcase more personality)this may be a stupid question so apologies in advance but how are y'all defining "hobbies and major non-academic interests"? like do extracurriculars in the arts (ex. theatre, music) count or does it have to be things that are completely outside of school?
Yesfor the questions that say "list ..." are we genuinely supposed to just list them and number them?
I think you can take it in whatever direction you feel most comfortable talking about it. I do not think they give a lot of space for that prompt iirc, therefore maybe don't go into why it makes you a better doctor in that essay specifically because it might be difficult to tell your story in such a small amount of words.Does anyone have guidance on the "Do you identify with a particular group that you believe is underrepresented among medical professionals?" (60 words)
"I am a bisexual woman and it makes me a better doctor because ... " or just "I identify as a member of the LGBT community."
Feels weird to just tell them I am bisexual LOL. In my ~diversity essay~, I talk about times me/my gf have experienced homophobia in medicine but there just not enough words to make a point.
I went with a small description of how I identify, how I've been engaged with the community, what I've learned and my hopes for the future.Does anyone have guidance on the "Do you identify with a particular group that you believe is underrepresented among medical professionals?" (60 words)

Tulane is big on both service orientation and research. Do you have any specific community service orientation or area of research?is it just me or is there barely information on Tulane on their website. I am really struggling to answer their "why Tulane" question, and I haven't had this issue for other schools (yet). Their website only has the centers and departments but not much info about them, just their contact info. I feel like the one thing that stands our for Tulane is the standardized patient program. anyone else struggling?
Yeah to community service. I have lots of research hours and some pub/conference, but id rather talk about my community service lol.Tulane is big on both service orientation and research. Do you have any specific community service orientation or area of research?
I watched a few videos from their admissions team and other faculty!Yeah to community service. I have lots of research hours and some pub/conference, but id rather talk about my community service lol.
how did you know that by the way? I dont see any huge mention of community service on their website. Also, their mission statement does not mention community service, which seems a bit odd.
They have a ton of community outreach initiatives and partnerships with local foundations listed on there.Yeah to community service. I have lots of research hours and some pub/conference, but id rather talk about my community service lol.
