Heard from a PRIME-LA staff member that the goal is to have PRIME II’s sent out tomorrow. May not actually happen but keep an eye out.
No way no way no way

Any word if there are still II coming for OOS? Are pathways such as underserved pathway have separate timelines for IIs?

Congrats! Are the PRIME-LA invites all sent out at once or could there be another wave this week?

I heard they do send them all at once so I am pretty bummed! Probably end game, yes.
I believe they consider the prime apps for traditional tracks though right if you don’t get accepted? Maybe end game for prime but not end game for dgsom?

Hello! Can anyone clarify a prime-la II vs a trad md II? If you receive the prime-la II, you could still receive a traditional MD program II right? But if you're accepted through prime-la you don't have to do an MD II? So then it's possible to have two II such that prime-la and trad MD program is reviewing the app at the same time (i.e. any applicant for prime, their app is in the MD program pile and prime pile)? just curious bc it sounds like a prime applicant can potentially have 2 chances to get into dgsom?

I emailed the PRIME staff in regards to my OOS app, I will post news when I hear them

Prime ii and traditional ii are two separate interviews!! Prime at UCs is a 5 year dual degree program with a master's integrated compared to the traditional track which is 4 years. The focus of prime differs between ucs for ex: ucla's is focused on leadership and advocacy for the underserved while ex: ucsd is health equity and also one focused in caring for indigenous people's health. UCLA's prime is unique because they review apps separately from the traditional piles. At other UCs like davis, you need to get into the traditional ii first and then you'll get a subsequent ii for prime I believe. It's kind of but not necessarily 2 chances to get into dgsom because though you are getting your education at UCLA, being in prime LA at UCLA does imply your medical education will be catered towards being a physician leader with the intent of caring for the underserved and you do need to take the master's year (which is personally to me one of my why medicine due to my upbringing). Like I don't think the master's year is optional. I believe if you're in the traditional track there's more flexibility for discovery year to do your own project and explore what you wanna do while prime has a community focused project (per the website)

Also I was complete early August to other person asking

Edit: spelling

Thank you for your response! To clarify, if someone were granted an acceptance for PRIME-LA then a trad MD II would not be conducted?

If you get IIs to both, you interview for both separately (also confirmed per my email)!! I don't have a trad MD II from dgsom to testify (yet heehee🤭) but on previous threads I've seen people get both IIs (and I'm assuming they do both the trad MD II and prime II). They are two completely different interviews and you getting an A, WL, or R from prime doesnt affect your chances on the traditional MD track

so basically need 2 II/2As to get into both prime and dgsom trad md track?! okay UCLA I see you...fingers crossed!!!!🤞

Wait, is it possible to get into Prime-LA but not DGSOM? Or do you need the DGSOM II in order to actually do the Prime-LA program (assuming you get the II and A for Prime-LA)?

In the staff’s words:
“Thank you for your interest in the PRIME-LA program at the David Geffen School of Medicine. At this time all interview invitations have been sent out and we do not anticipate much fluctuation with our interview list for this cycle. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. ”
