2024-2025 USC (Keck)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nothing from 11/8.

For the wave 1 acceptances (so people who interviewed in October), it worked like this:
Wave of WL
Two weeks later on a Friday, As from 4-5pm PST
That Sunday, As from 3-5pm

For wave 2 acceptances (people who interviewed in November), it's been like this:
Wave of WL on Dec. 20th.
Two academic calendar weeks later on a Friday, As from 3:30-5
No second Sunday wave

I really, really hope there's a second wave of As and they aren't just accepting fewer people in our group. No one from October has mentioned not hearing yet, meaning they only sent one wave of WL and everyone else got accepted. Someone should bite the bullet and call to ask if we will hear haha

Two words for you: California wildfires

Please have grace and patience for the California schools affected by this catastrophe

From what i've seen, they sent out A's for people up to 11/13, but I haven't seen any for people 11/15 and later. I'm thinking the wildfires may also be impacting things. So patience is going to be very necessary.

Yes patience and grace are sacrosanct in this situation. I appreciate the empathy for the fires as I along with many others are amongst their affects, but I do want to say if you’re (Keck) are further East/South in LA life is pretty much normal and going on (besides those that live in or near the fire/evac zones) — will it slow things down: probably. Could there be a delay in the decisions: possibly. Could you still get an A at anytime: possibly. Regardless bottom line just be patient and loving and trust in the universe! I know it’s easier said than done, especially as someone that reported that they’ve been accepted but please take care of your brains. I wish I did that more because I drove myself crazy waiting for a decision when really, the result will be the result.

TLDR: Patience regardless ❤️

Congrats to those that got in! I can try and answer questions as a current student here 🙂

Are we able to set up their own rotations? Like if I wanted to do a rotation where I worked during my gap year? Also, when do you start shadowing doctors and do you get to choose what specialty/who?

Haven’t heard anything, but I have a friend who goes to Keck and they said their aid package was given to them like 4 days before the deadline to commit to a school. Hopefully they send them out earlier than that lol

IS URM A yesterday! Still in shock. I can’t even sleep rn cause I’m so excited and feeling too many emotions lol. Interviewed early December. Call was around 2:30pm
Also IS URM! Do you have any tips for the interview?

It was such a chill/calm experience! The dean was so welcoming and made the "info session" part really interactive and got to know each person. For the interviews, as long as you have reviewed the SDN interview bank questions and have answers, you'll be set! Both of my interviewers had questions they told me they needed to get through (and answering them ultimately took up most of the time) but it was still very relaxing. I don't know if anyone else can speak to this, but it almost feels like the Keck interview is just a vibe check/see if you have the general competencies they are looking for. Neither of my interviewers were really taking notes, they were just listening to what I had to say and both were lovely. Just stay calm, be warm, and you'll crush it!

I was told I’d get my “package” after MLK day on Tuesday. Hopefully it’ll be then!

Also second the amazing info session mentioned above ^ I had a recent interview that I was really unimpressed with after USC’s great info sesh.

I got along very well with my interviewers! If I remember right one was a pediatrician so she was sweet & listened intently. The other interview was so conversational and natural it didn’t even feel like I was answering any tough or difficult questions. Be your self, know your story and attributes, and have fun!

How did you get news about your package? did you submit a fafsa?

Got the acceptance call on Friday (1/17) which is when they mentioned it, I’m assuming financial aid package ‘cause they said it was online. I’ll be submitting fafsa soon though! I’ll keep you updated on Tuesday!

Was accepted a month ago and I think that’s the email and stuff they send out with the pdf stuff. They need fafsa before I’m fairly sure and the supplemental financial app and I believe target date did that is Feb sometime

how much do students use spanish in clinic?
There are a lot of Spanish-speaking patients that we see (especially at LA General), so being able to speak Spanish is a huge plus! If you don’t, there are translators (nowadays it’s a virtual translator you use from the hospital’s device) that we are trained to use. So to answer your question.. as much or as little as you can. I don’t speak Spanish but am definitely picking up on it the more I’m exposed to patients (as is the experience of most people)
How many tickets does the school allow for white coat ceremony?
For us, it was 6 tickets per student if I remember correctly.
Are we able to set up their own rotations? Like if I wanted to do a rotation where I worked during my gap year? Also, when do you start shadowing doctors and do you get to choose what specialty/who?
The core clerkship rotations are all through Keck, LA General, and CHLA. I’m not sure if you are able to set up your own rotations core the core clerkships, but that’s definitely something to ask about for the electives.

Have you heard anything about your financial aid package today?

Has anyone who was accepted but didn’t get the pdf heard or reached out to the admissions office?

Hi! I got an interview invite a few days ago! I was wondering what the interview is like (one-on-one vs MMI, intense vs laid back, etc.). I can't seem to find much information about the interview, even on their website...

The interview is super chill. They’ll send you the schedule a few days before with the zoom link. Theres a 1 hour intro session where everyone introduces themselves basically. There’s a student and a faculty one, each around 30 minutes, closed file. For me, the first 2/3rds of the interview was super conversational and the last part was them just going through standardized questions.

Womp, no financial aid package sent, just 3 emails.

The PDF is attached to an email titled: Keck SOM: Pre-matriculation Information
Has anyone who was accepted but didn’t get the pdf heard or reached out to the admissions office?
Check if you looked at the full email, does not show up on mobile unless I click show full email.

Congratulations to everyone who has been receiving recent II!! I know Keck doesn't accept update letters/letters of intent, but I was completed early August and haven't heard anything back yet. I would LOVE the opportunity to interview and want to make sure I have truly exhausted all my options. Anyone have any advice on what I can do to help, or is it truly just sitting and waiting?

Thank you! I definitely didn’t get this email, I only received two 🙁 I’ll ask the admissions office about it

Interviewed mid-December and was told on my interview day we would hear back in "late January/Early February". Given November people have not received any news, it does not seem likely now...
