Do you have all of your LoR's in? Just wondering because I'm still waiting on my LoR and wasn't sure if western will send secondaries only if everything is uploaded

Schools don't wait on LORs to send secondaries.

Just like @Deggroll mentioned they shouldn’t hold out on sending out secondary for LORs. At the time I received mine I was still waiting for 1. They only require and I think only review 2.

Yep! Kinda surprised we got secondaries so early. I saw that most people to get them last cycle was late June-July. Hopefully we can get some early IIs! I’m just waiting for them to approve my LORs so I can have a completed secondary.

Thank you!! that is helpful. Do you know if WesternU still filters out GPA/MCAT scores?

I submitted my secondary a couple of days ago and it says that my letters of rec are pending. I had used Interfolio to upload all of my letters to AACOMAS. Will Western automatically get the LOR’s or is there something I need to do? Is anyone else in the same boat?

I'm in the same boat. Maybe we just need to give it a couple days for the LORs to be uploaded from AACOMAS?

It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one experiencing this! Yeah maybe we just have to give them a bit of time to get the LORs.

Yes, give more time. I submitted all my LORs via interfolio. I’ve noticed they take slightly longer to get to AACOMAS than they do AMCAS. So just give it some time don’t worry 🙂

Does anyone know if this school still requires CASPer? It looked like they did last year from the discussion, however, I can't find any information on their website.

I was wondering the same thing. I’m a reapplicant so on my portal it says “Casper received” but it’s my old one. I can’t seem to find on their website if they require it and all the websites I found regarding which schools need it also doesn’t have it listed.

I don’t think so! I just took Casper and westernU wasn’t an option when selecting schools

For those of us who require solid confirmation to not worry about something lol. Acuity Insights messaged me when I asked and said that Western no longer requires CASPER.

Also, I am among the ones waiting on my letters to be 'verified' or like checked in. I'm pretty sure they are just confirming we meet the requirements for the letters.

Mine shows "Awaiting" and its been a couple days now so yeah I'm confused too
Both my letters say awaiting as well even though they were submitted. Not sure why. Did your letter writers submit directly to AACOMAS or Interfolio?

Yeah my writers submitted to Interfolio and then I transferred to AACOMAS which honestly took less than a day. Im guessing they have to match the letters or something?
My letters were both approved. I think it could be one of two things (coming from a reapplicant who had issues the first time, but I don't know everything so I could be wrong) 1. They definitely review the actual letters to make sure they meet the requirements, so maybe they haven't finished that yet. 2. There could actually be an issue with meeting those requirements. I had an issue last time and they didn't tell me what it was until I contacted them. I'd recommend sending them an email to make sure they're just behind and not the second one.

Hi, does anyone know what the school's screening criteria is for a secondary? Tried searching it up but couldn't find it.

Wondering the same. I got emails from Oregon and Cali stating they're verifying documents and requirements but no secondaries yet.

WesternU need an MCAT score, a physician letter, and a science professor letter. They also have required coursework although I'm not sure if they screen for this.

Hello, I just wanted to check in on how strict Western U's 1 week turnaround is? I am having trouble with my physician letter since hes been on vacation.

Posting here for reference:
  • Submitted AACOMAS on 7/3
  • Verified AACOMAS on 7/5
  • Received Western COMP Secondary link on 7/10. For context, I did not transfer my MCAT scores from AMCAS to AACOMAS until 7/9.
The turnaround time for secondaries was fast for me, and I was surprised by it because I did not pre-write the secondaries, thinking I had more time. (I saw a post last year about how long it took for them to receive Western's secondaries). The secondary email does state that one week submission is ideal, which is also important to note (as I think 2 weeks is the norm).

I am an OOS applicant, but I have strong ties to CA.

In the secondary application under the physician shadowing section, should this include work with a DO as well? I never officially shadowed a DO, but I have worked one-on-one with them before. Would that count?

I would say if you define what you did when you worked with the DO as shadowing, meaning you observed them practice, then yeah. I would just make sure that your able to show that in your writing and (hopefully) interview since most DO schools are pretty picky about that.

Appreciate the thoughts, I'm definitely on the fence

This thread describes my situation pretty accurately and seems to lean towards counting the hours as only clinical experience. I might just max it out as 50 hours of shadowing and call it a day

Sounds like the other campus is getting interview invites early august... Hopefully we do too! 🙂

Just got an email that I wasn’t selected for the first round of interviews and will be notified if I get one later on but I’m interpreting it as a soft R

Just got the email saying I was not selected for an interview but may be later. Fingers crossed 🙁

+1 is this email a new thing their doing or did they do this in prior years?

In previous cycles it seems like most people who got interview invites were receiving "application still with admissions committee" emails so not sure since this email says "review complete" 😕 but hoping for the best.

I think people are being a little too neurotic on here. Historically, interviews don't start until late August. I believe the email was auto generated or something 🙄
That’s what had me confused because I thought interviews weren’t for another while. It still hurts to read tho lol

I got this email too. Guys, I wonder if this is the same message as the "application still with the committee" email last year that was sent around the same time. I just read the email again and it says you have not yet been selected for an interview lol trying hard to spin it in a positive light. any thoughts?
Just got an ema saying

“This message is to inform you that your application is still under consideration by the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) Admissions Committee. We appreciate your patience and are grateful for your continued interest in the DO program on our Pomona campus.”
