Has anyone heard from Tufts yet? They have that page where you can view your application status but I'm wondering around what time they start notifiying people. Anyone know that's currently applying or anyone who applied last year?

Thanks!

I know someone who applied to Tufts a couple years ago, and she said they were pretty quick with the interviews and decisions. Her theory was that since they're more expensive than your state/contract school (if you have one) they want to let you know right away if you got in, hoping you'll accept instead of waiting for a cheaper offer...

Didn't hear a word from Tufts last year until late January for a Feb 14th interview. I found I was accepted a week and a half or so after my interview online.

Last year I got my Tufts rejection letter on January 26...

Hopefully this year it will be an acceptance instead! :luck:

last year I got an interview invitation sometime in mid Jan, interview on feb 15, and accepted March 7th

good luck everyone! tufts is great 🙂

Hi all, I got two emails from Tufts today: one is a general update, the other has a link to financial aid stuff.

"We received about 735 applications for the 80 seats in the Class of
2011."

"The committee’s first task is to select about 240 applicants who will be
invited to interview. These interviews are tentatively scheduled for
February 7, 8, 12, 13, and 14, from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. If you are
selected to interview, you will receive a letter a few weeks in advance
which will include the specific date and time of your interview. This
letter will arrive via U.S. mail rather than being posted on our website."

I never got this type of correspondence last year... but these emails sounded like they were going out to everyone.

:luck:

thats insane - so only 1/3 of the interviewees actually get offered a spot? so difficult...

Interview invitation for February 13 received today via snail mail - I'm out of state.

i got an interview invitation today in the mail for the 14th of february....hope the rest of you hear soon!

(i'm instate)

good luck everyone! tufts is great 🙂

How did they let you know about your acceptance? Did they send you an email or is there a website where we can check? Thanks

well it was only for an interview... not acceptance 🙂 (though that would have been nice!!)

I received a snail mail letter last week (the 10th) of my interview on feb 7th... received that email earlier today (the 16th).... last time I checked their website, my status had not changed... and now when I try to check, it seems their website is down....

hope that helps!

oops... sorry... thought you were talking about my post!

When the acceptances were ready, they sent an e-mail with a link to the letter online or something like that, also they sent a letter snail mail.

good luck everyone! I hope to meet some of you next month 🙂

I got my Tufts interview offer for the 7th of Feb a week ago today. Hope to see some of you there!!!

I got the letter last week for an interview on Feb 8th. I got an e-mail today requesting for me to send my fall grades to the admissions office. Did anyone else get this e-mail? It was addressed to me by name, just wondering if anyone else has ever gotten an e-mail like this... I can't figure out if its good or bad

I called them and asked them if they wanted my fall grades and they said "No! But we love to get them!"

Maybe if your grades are borderline or they want to make sure you're being consistent they'll ask for them, I don't know?

i sent my fall grades in as soon as they were available to all my schools. i'm sure if they think you're qualified enough for an interview, they'll want to keep track of your grades. you got the interview, regardless, so take it as a good thing 😉

hi everyone,
congrats on those who got interviews! I have mine on Feb 7th, so I hope to meet some of you then. What are you doing to prepare for the interview? Any suggestions?
Thanks and good luck!

Tuftshopeful and everyone else coming up for an interview,

some things you should do to prepare are:
- have a solid answer for "why do you want to come to tufts"
- have 4-5 questions prepared on things that interest you about the school, even if you really think you know the answer, questions like "i was wondering if you could tell me more about the selectives program" show that you did your research
- if there is anything interesting you've been up to since you sent in your app, make sure to talk about it

good luck! hopefully i'll meet some of you when you're up here!

I'm waitlisted for an interview at tufts. It's better than being rejected out right, but i'm still sad about it.

does anyone know what the website is for getting to our online status pages? i seemed to have deleted the email it came in. thanks!

Don't get too excited about that website... Last year I got a little obsessive about checking it, but the status pretty much never changed. They'll send you an email when your status has changed on the site, and for both of my decisions (waitlist, then acceptance), the snailmail letter was already sitting in my mailbox when they emailed me about the website.

Good luck! Let me know if I can do anything to help you.

Yeah my interview was the 7th of feb and I'm still waiting. I was really hoping the online status would change before the mail comes, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Good luck everyone!

i was told on wednesday at my interview that all students would be notified both online and by snail mail during the first week of march

We will hear pretty soon!! 😱 Here is the email that was sent today from tufts:

"Greetings from the Office of Admissions,
We hope that your participation in our interview process was an enjoyable experience. The Admissions Committee will be meeting very soon to make final admission decisions. Once these decisions are made, we will post them online on the Application Management System. You will be able to log on using your password to view the committee’s decision about your admission. We will send you another email once decisions have been added to the online system. If you have forgotten your user name and password, please let us know."

Good luck everyone!!! 🙂

I work at Tufts...the "big meeting" where they make all the admissions decisions is on Tuesday 2/27!

oh geez! It's stressful to know that they're going to be talking about us on Tuesday!

Who else here is waiting for a decision from tufts?

anybody know how tufts narrows down/makes decisions? do they use a point system? is your interview worth "points"? i know that the lady i initerviewed with told me to try to transfer into the in-state pool because it's "a whole different ball game." whatever that means... in-state vs. out-of-state?

I think someone posted in the thread "help: bad interview" or something like that, that Tufts DOES use the point system. And actually, while I was waiting outside the room before my interview, I heard the interviewers talking about points (didn't hear too much, just something like: "I rarely like to give 3's or 4's") SO, I'm pretty sure they use the point system.

How can you transfer to the in-state pool? (just out of curiosity) And can you do that before the "big meeting day"?

Hahahahahahaha, good try 😀

No, I'm serious. Switching to state-status seems strange, and probably not that easy to do unless there are some underlying circumstances- like applicant is from MA, but acquired state status of the state where their college is located. And can then technically be considered MA.

There are probably some other circumstances that we're not aware about.

It won't work. If you're in-state for another school, then you won't be able to prove residency in MA. You need to show that you filed your taxes there, have a driver's license there, have a voter's registration card there, etc. If you declared residency in another state, you won't have all this stuff. They don't just take "extenuating circumstances" and other excuses when you're declaring residency. Nevermind that it's wayyy too late at this point.

Why didn't you declare residency in the first place? The only reason I can think of is because you wanted to have in-state status at another school. They admissions staff isn't dumb - they know people are trying to play the residency game.

Cyrille,

I think you seem to think that I'm asking for MY situation. And that I am trying to do what someone else has mentioned about switching residencies- that's not the case at all. I'm on your side about this- I think it's strange that someone can just switch residencies at the last minute to be considered in-state. Thus, I was wondering what that person's case may be, such that something that seems, like you said, quite difficult (if not impossible) would be allowed and actually encouraged by someone on the admissions committee.

I'm not "in-state" anywhere, as I'm a NY resident, and have been for the past 2 years.

Ok ok...wait what? that's in-state for cornell.

Right, but I didn't apply there. PM me if you have a bone to pick with me about asking about this occurrence. I seem to have hit a nerve of yours.

BTW, did you interview at Tufts on the 14th? I think I remember you.

No, I didn't...

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to be offensive, I was just being adamant about not being able to change residency because I had issues with residency myself.

Cyrille, I think you posted on an earlier thread that you were invited to interview at Tufts on February 14th. Did you decline the interview? Those on hold would appreciate knowing if a spot is available.

No, I didn't decline the interview. Because of the weather in my area I couldn't get to Boston on the 14th, and I had to reschedule my interview. Since interviews are already over, though, those on hold should already know if a spot had opened up, right?. Sorry for the confusion...

Hi,

Someone said they are meeting today to finalize the admissions decisions. Does anyone know when we will be notified?

🙂

No idea, but I'm checking every 1/2 hour until 6 PM EST :scared: Hopefully they will post it today so we don't have to make ourselves crazy tomorrow as well

i did have extenuating circumstances with residency, mainly becoming disabled and moving back home the day after i submitted my app. an official at the school proposed that if i withdrew all other apps from all other schools and ONLY wanted to go to that school, i might be able to switch the residency. i declined the offer and am taking my chances.

Hi Turbovet,
Thanks for the info! Like I told Cyrille, I think we're all just a little on edge from the suspense and waiting! Good luck everyone!

Here is what SoxBox said in my thread about my bad interview about Tufts. I hope this helps answer your questions like it helped me. Thanks again SoxBox!

"So some insider info from working at Tufts for the last few years and talking with various vets who served or are serving on the admissions committee...basically how it works is that everyone is put into a giant spreadsheet based first on grades/GREs... this is how they make the initial "cut"... so its pretty much straight forward a numbers game... then they "score" your experience, recommendations, and personal statement to help get down to the 240 they interview... then your interview score gets put in... if you were a strong candidate to begin with, you would basically have to completely screw up your interview (ie: not speak or give absolutely ridiculous answers) to knock you out of the competition. The interviews are given scores that go into this spreadsheet... I am not sure where the cutoff is, but the top x number in this final spreadsheet are automatically in... then the last x amount (lets just say from numbers 60-100.. so some within the top 80 and then the next closest amount) are discussed amongst the different interviewers and admissions committee... Then a final order is made including waitlisters... they meet for about 1-2 weeks after interviews to finalize their list... Oh yeah, and of course then your residency comes into play somehow into that whole thing as well... 50% of the class must be from MA...

So yes your interview matters if you were in the bottom percent of that spreadsheet but its overall just a small portion of everything they look at. If you had a strong application before the interview, dont worry!!! I hope this helps a bit 🙂"

🙂

they said that they would send out an email when everything was put online. Or you'll get a letter in the mail. i highly doubted anything was going to be announced today, they'll start sending stuff out tomorrow or thursday or etc....today was just decision day, not notify day

aww bugger dude, i thought i had you pegged! haha, well there's a guy applying to tufts with the same personality as you.

I've given up on the Application Management System for the day. This is absolute torture.👎
