Anyone interviewing at ohio state???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I heard this past year their average MCAT was something like a 34 and they didn't take anyone off the in-state or out-of-state waiting lists.

I'm interviewing there on Oct. 8th, and am OOS - I'm not sure, but the impression I have so far is that they tend to mostly accept IS. I got a 35S, and had a 4.0 (since lost it.. ah, well) if you're asking about who gets invites..

yea! go bucks. yeah.. i called them... they said they give out interviews based on MCAT score/quantitative stats. so you'll be interviewing with people with around the same "competitiveness" as you.

i'm in-state.. no interview yet. REALLY want to go there!

geeze, a 34! they really need to add spots to medical schools.

I'll be there the 8th also!

Contrary to popular belief, the acceptance rate for IS and OOS is very similar. This is due to the fact that a lot of accepted OOS don't end up going so they have to take more people. Also, I'd imagine there is more cometition in the OOS pool.

really!?!? so they group people with similar stats into the same interview days? that explains why my interview was scheduled for 2 months after my invite...haha. strange.

How can you guys tell when you are complete at ohio state? My letters were sent a month ago but the status page hasn't changed since then and it just says "Status: Payment accepted, data sent, received, and confirmed!"

I've been complete here for almost a month and no word. However, one of my housemates just got verified a week ago and received an interview invite two days later...He's an OOS student, 37, 4.0, many EC's. Seems like they give initial interviews based soley on numbers

they take students like myself 😉

I am going to clarify.

I hope they take students like myself.

I have a 3.84 GPA here at Ohio State, and I have taken all of the Honors classes available. I have founded a club at Ohio State. I am soon to be published in the Journal of Biophysics. I researched Vif through NIHREU. I am an appalachian kurd, grew up in poverty, have parents without college education, worked in business, placed at Ohio State's research competition during my 2nd year, AND I am a tutor in Chemistry. I receive my MCAT scores the 10th.. let's pray I don't get a 30!

😀

WOW you have great ec's I would be suprised if you didnt get in😀

GL on your mcats and tell me how they go

I got an invitation to interview at Ohio State, which I suppose is somewhat surprising since I hadn't submitted any letters of recommendations yet.

Here's hoping the last few professors get off their lazy butts before I actually fly there 😛

I have an interview at OSU and am an out of state student from University of Maryland. 3.6 GPA, 35S on MCAT, fellowship currently at National Cancer Institute.

Interview on October 1.

i submitted my application, called about it two days later to make sure everything was in, and two days after that i got an interview invite. maybe that call made a difference because my stats aren't that impressive. OOS 33R 3.8

I gave interview tours at OSU on Oct. 8th. They told us that everybody who interviewed that day will be accepted.

Just kidding. But I did give interview tours that day.

The IS/OOS acceptance ratio is fairly even. They take slightly more males than females. Looking at our class it seems like they considered more than just numerical stats, but I guess I could be wrong. It would be hard to add seats because we already have over 200 students per class (although some will end up in the independent study pathway). The MCAT average from last year's accepted students was somewhere between 34-35 (I've heard rumors it was 34.8). The average GPA was 3.75? or so. I was .2 below that and still accepted. There was VERY little waitlist movement from what I can tell. I'm about to leave for the OSU/Kent State game and the Bucks are probably going to injure some of the Kent State players because our defense is so big and fast.

I was invited to interview at OSU on 10/8 and I have a 33 MCAT and I am OOS. So don't lose hope

i've been complete there for like 2 months and am expecting a rejection. my stats are 3.6 and 34

I wouldn't lose hope yet. I was complete for over 3 months and just got an invite this week. My stats are 3.76 and 33.

I'm confused, does this also include for URMS because I got a similar response from an admission representative.

your stats are exactly like mine and i too have been complete for over 3 months...does this mean i'll get an invite this week? i hope so, haha!

im interviewing there in 2 weeks. 😍

the interview invite game is puzzling. my stats arent really better than anyone else's, and i got my invite literally 8AM the day after i submitted my secondary and was complete--makes me wonder if they read my secondary? haha.

either way, good luck everyone!

I'm interviewing here tomorrow.

I just arrived..I'm already impressed with Columbus as a city. It looks amazing, and I'm excited to learn more about its personality.

Do any of you who have already interviewed have any advice for me for tomorrow?😍

I'm OOS 33T 3.7. I've called like 3 times and each time they've said "the review process can take a long time."

sigh, sometimes these things just get to me...

wow, just got accepted on Tuesday. i'm totally psyched, because i loved the school. 😀😀😀

the interview day was really well planned out and pretty relaxed. i love how the committee meets right after we leave so that we are discussed and ranked on the same day, and decisions are sent out within two weeks.

this school is on its way up, up, up and columbus is amazing.

just wondering if anyones interviewing at osu and if you could give some info on what caliber of students they take

I got invited and accepted with 35Q and 3.9

-anyone else in and decided this is absolutely the place for them? we need a thread!!! 😀

I interviewed at Ohio on Oct. 1st and was accepted Oct. 16th with a 35O MCAT and 3.74 GPA. OOS

Hey everyone,

Long time reader of SDN, but this is my first time posting. I'm pretty sure this is on topic...I interviewed at OSU during the last week of October and just got a "Deferred - Decision Pending." I have a 34R/3.77 and I'm in-state. I consider(ed) OSU my top choice, but does this pretty much mean it's over? Anyone know in more detail what this means? Thanks, I'm really upset about and any input would help...

I too interview at OSU in the last week of October and was also deferred. Does OSU reject post interviews or just place everyone not accepted on the deferred list.

I can actually answer that question...I called them about the deferred status and they told me a few things...mainly, most people who interviewed this year so far have either been admitted or deferred, but there have been a few post-interview rejections. I've seen elsewhere on this board that OSU had/has a per-month quota for admits, so we probably screwed ourselves by interviewing that week. I really regret not rescheduling since I found that out well before I interviewed.

i interviewed last week of october too. what date were you guys there? maybe we were all there together 😛

i remember the woman who spoke to us saying that they accept a certain group, put another group on hold, and a minority of group gets an immediate "non-accept." for those of you on hold, your applications will be continuously reviewed every time the committee meets (i'm not sure if i actually believe this, but i think it will be cycled pretty frequently) to see if the status can be upgraded.

my student interviewer (on adcom, obviously) told me that the committee does meet to discuss our applications right after our interviews, but that a final decision isn't really made. rather, we are rated (given a number) and then ranked, and they hold off telling us our final decision until we are compared with a few more interview groups. if we make the cut, we are accepted within the two weeks, and if not, we are "deferred" for further review.

good luck guys! hope to see you in august!!:luck::luck::luck:

YES!!! After interview day I def fell in love with that place...perfect fit for me...and this is coming from a U of M grad😛

Hey thanks for the clarification starlight...I really wanted to go to OSU and I felt when I got that deferred decision that I'd pretty much be expecting the waitlist in April at most. I'm probably gonna send off an LOI...I hope that helps 🙂 thx again

When you guys say "end of October" would you happen to mean monday, oct 29?

Hey Orbo---nope, I was there on the 31st. Seems like that was a bad day for interviews lol. How did yours go?

For anyone interviewing in the near future, don't mention their big loss this past weekend! Hahaha

I'm sure they'll be over it quickly on saturday...

Nope...today the campus was dead probably because everyone is just depressed although we are pumped to beat on those folks up North...guess we ll have to settle for the Rose Bowl🙁

...well it's not saturday yet, is it?

though I did interview there last year in early january (and my interview group was more than 50% osu undergrads). any mention of the state of florida caused a collective groan to lift throughout the room.

it's almost funny in a sad why how serious they take their sports at OSU... other schools in the big 10 don't even come close to the obsessiveness in columbus.

Oh the interviews themselves went just fine. Very well in fact! Ahem. I'm deferred.

Be careful what you wish for. My prediction is that Oregon will win its next three games and play for the national championshiop. USC will beat Arizona State and play in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State would get its head handed to it by USC. USC has a better defense than Ohio State and a much better offense. Remember what happened to Michigan in the Rose Bowl last year. The Big 10 is too slow and too boring. The Pac 10 and the SEC are where its at, with a nod to Oklahoma but not its league. Texas is in decline. By the way, Oklahoma will end that Kansas fantasy soon enough. I don't like Bob Stoops but I respect him as a coach.

Speaking of embarassing bowl losses, who got destroyed by BYU last year?

One word, ILLINOIS! From an Oregon fan. I wish you could be there for the national championship game.

yeah... maybe you can come over and watch it on TV with us now... clown
