APPIC Internship Phase II 2020

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an invite from University of Northern Colorado on Tuesday! Still waiting to hear from University of Texas-Dallas

Is it inappropriate in Phase II to ask the TDs if they are still considering our application?

This morning I got an offer from Wasatch Mental Health and a request for additional materials from Ancora Psychiatric Hospital.

Okayyyyy, sent out application consideration inquired and got rejections from VA Sepulveda and Children’s institute

Are we allowed to send sites emails like “I was considering you when I applied but now you are out of the running. Sorry site! There were many qualified sites I was considering in my rankings”

haha

(I hope nobody is offended, I need some humor to keep me going through this).

Haha! I love this.
“There were many exceptionally well qualified sites and unfortunately, you were not among them.”

Has anyone emailed program directors or faculty that you interviewed with from phase one to get constructive feedback about why you were ranked low or not ranked? If so, has any helpful feedback been provided/is it worth me trying to do so or just a waste of time?

What do you think of this when you ask for a list of intern contact information and the site TD says "I'll request one of the interns to email you" rather than giving you a list of email addresses?

You’re overthinking it. Likely they are just going to ask the current interns which would like to respond or they are taking turns assigning interns to respond.

Thank you for the perspective! It's hard not to overthink everything in this process.

I think it's fine. As long as they get back to you, of course. If you don't hear anything that probably isn't great. Worse still if the TD doesn't want you to talk to the interns!

I did this and got some very helpful feedback from the TD. Only thing I would suggest is to frame it as "what feedback can you give me from my interview that could be helpful in phase 2?" I tried to avoid asking explicitly about not being ranked or being ranked low. If they then volunteer information about how they ranked you and broach the topic, then it's cool to talk about.

Hi everyone! There's still quite a few sites that I haven't heard from and haven't been mentioned on this forum. Has anyone heard anything from the following sites?

Denver Health Medical Center
Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Toronto)
University of Texas at Austin UCC
Univ California-San Diego-Consortium/VA
Washington DC VA
Jesse Brown VA Chicago (both tracks)
VA Salt Lake City

Yes i actually talked to one on the phone and he was so nice! It’s definitely worth trying!

OK so Ive had some interviews and most of them are nice and ask reasonable questions and it goes so well, and then I had an interview that asked me these tricky/unexpected questions and I got totally thrown off my game! This is so frustrating does anyone have this experience? Like why do some places do that? Seems really unnecessary

Anyone heard from children's institute, the harris county and Goodman?

Oo what are some questions you got that were tricky? Tell me your most embarassing childhood memory? Haha

but seriously, please share

To see how you think on your feet and handle the unknown/stress.

Rejection from UC Davis CAARE Center!! I am honestly okay with this. Feeling completely overwhelmed with interviewing as it is.

Also, my two “official” rejections so far were from California sites...I think they knew I really didn’t want to move to California lol I would rather live in the middle of nowhere with decent housing prices

haha i would actually love that question lol. Like asking 5 part questions, giving vignettes that are vague “on purpose.” Asking me to define and describe specific psychology terms that normally wouldnt be asked in an interview- to see if i have it memorized apparently? A lot of “just to see what you will do” stuff. #revengeinterviewing

Has anyone heard from:
-the John Dingell VA (Detroit)
-the philly VA
-Long Island Jewish Medical Center (neuro)
Detroit sent invites already i think. Philly VA is contacting today, just received an email. LIJ already sent invites last week. Interviewed with them last Wednesday.

I will say, as far as vignettes go, most of the time, they are from real life experiences/referral questions. We use vignettes that we update every year, and it's very easy to find good ones that will give us a lot to discuss in an interview setting. Everywhere I've been, we've always use dreal life vignettes from our actual clinical work.

I totally understand that rationale and respect it, at the same time I’m not convinced that this strategy ellicits an accurate portrayal of how a clinician can actually effectively perform at work and help clients :/ maybe if you are testifying in court

nice! i can definitely see how that makes sense to use

So a coordinator from a program just called me to re-schedule one interview because of the corona virus. They are all working from home... so FYI, some sites are still sending out invites or having difficulty because of this.

I think a couple people have asked, but any word from the Charleston Consortium for anyone yet?

Yes LIJ sent an invite last week and I just received an interview from Philly about 30 mins ago
