I know Ohio State emails out their supplemental application after you apply through VMCAS, but I'm confused about this veterinary experience verification form. Is this something that all applicants need to submit before Oct. 2nd or is it just for people who submitted paper LORs instead of eLORs?

If I remember correctly the experience form was something you sent when the asked for a supplemental application. You fill out the supplemental application, experience form, and have your transcripts sent at the same time.

Hi Bunny Slippers,

I believe that you must submit the experience verification form before you have the chance to be invited to complete a supplimentary app.

This is from the Ohio State U website:

"Submit the following materials by October 1st - additional references (if necessary), a veterinary experience verification form to the Office of Student Affairs, all official transcripts to the Office of Professional Admissions. The verification form and additional reference forms can be found at http://professional.osu.edu/vetmed.asp."

found it here:
http://www.vet.ohio-state.edu/2516.htm

All you need is a vet's signature on a form stating that you have worked atleast 80 hours with them. It's not bad. Just sent mine in.

Hope that helps 🙂

I'm not sure how it is supposed to technically work but I was invited to send in my extra letters of rec (because I needed an additional veterinarian), my experience verification form, and my supplemental all at the same time. I think they gave me like two weeks to do so, and stressed that it was now a rolling admissions process. Though...I still got in even though my veterinary reference had to fax over her letter seriously 4-5 times before they got it over a period of about 4 weeks. I'm not sure if it was the faxes or what....but I got in anyway 🙂

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully I'll get the chance to join you all at OSU next year! 🙂

hey guys does anyone have a definite answer? i am still confused. http://aavmc.org/vmcas/documents/Ohio2009_000.pdf makes it seem like the verification form is only for those invited to complete a supplemental application but it also says the verification form should be submitted by oct. 2. if anyone has a definite answer that would be great!!!

Also, does anyone know what the supplemental application involves? I'm considering studying abroad next fall, when I'm planning to apply to vet school, but I don't want to leave the country unless I can fairly easily do the supplemental app while traveling around South America (i.e. over e-mail).

thanks. my vet is a vet at osu so i guess i'll just fax it to him and have him drop it off at admissions.

Email or fax are both easily accessible abroad so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Anyone else look at the essay questions for Ohio yet?? 😱 I was going to give myself a few days off from essays but I think I need all the time I can get with those!!

um, what essay questions....clearly i missed something, aaa!

There are so many! I definitely wasn't expecting that!

No need to freak out. After you submit to VMCAS Ohio State will eventually email you to fill out their supplemental application. It took me about a week and a half to get it.

Eeeek. :scared:

How many are there? I'm getting nervous for when I actually get my supplemental for OSU; is it as many as Western (~11 essays)?

There are only 4, but the questions themselves are essays!!! :lame:

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one intimidated by Ohio's supplemental. I found Western's supplemental easier to answer, but maybe it's because I had more time to do it. Plus behavioral questions make me nervous. I overthink them! 😕

They seem a lot more like interview questions to me, not essays. I'm sitting down to write them right now, and I think I'm just going to approach it in a straightforward and simple manner. Easy to say, not so easy to do! Good luck everyone!

EqSci, you are exactly right that they sound like interview questions. They pretty much are. From what I have heard from current vet students, OSU is going to a shorter interview (from about 45 min. to 30) so they are trying to gather some more information ahead of time. At least we have 10 days to think about the behavioral type questions, and not on the spot.... but I do agree that they pretty much stink!

This is very true. The supplemental questions were questions asked in interviews. Being that interviews are shorter this year, this will give time to hone in on more important interview questions.

Well in that case, I'm glad I had the time to spend on those questions to really think them through and provide thorough answers!

Ok. this may be a stupid question but when they say:
"Your supplemental application is due on Friday, October 10th, 2008 by 12 midnight eastern/standard time"

does that mean, it's due on friday, anytime before midnight (when it becomes saturday)
Or
that it's due thurs night before midnight (when, at midnight, it becomes friday oct 10th)

(maybe my brain is just fried from working on all of these supplementals )

Friday before midnight. (at least, I sure hope so... lol)

Ok. So for anyone who has a similarly worded supplemental invite email:
I actually called OSU this morning to clarify (I didn't get Pugh but talked to someone from the professional admissions office). She definitely confirmed that it is due anytime friday before midnight. 🙂

Woohoo, submitted my OSU essays and application.

Good luck everyone who has to submit their OSU supp within the next few minutes before the deadline!! :luck:

I'll just be really happy my OSU supplemental isn't due until the 16th. I have no idea how to go about answering these questions.

Decision in uncertain situations? Nope, haven't really been forced to make many of those.

Adverse events or unexpected changes in life? Not really.

Yeah, those questions were killer (added to the fact that each one was a novel). But I think that they will help OSU get a better picture of who we are as individuals.

Good luck!

Agreed. That was definately the toughest supplemental I've had! (Although I'm not applying to Western. LOL)

I feel like the questions were designed in such a way that I definately had to reveal a lot more personal information than I normally would have... Definately uncomfortable, but hopefully effective!

Just finished submitting. Wow did that suck. 🙁

Oh well, at least two weeks before the next round of supplemental apps are due.

eek i have just about 2 more hours to submit mine. better get off here and finish these up! 😀

Good luck! It feels great to hit that submit button!!

SUBMITTED!! I just realized that I've written 14 short essays in 2 days...4 for Ohio and 10 for Western 😱 Although painful, I am glad the adcoms are willing to read through all these essays to get a better understanding of who we are and what we stand for 😀

just an update - I got an email from Ohio yesterday, with a link to a log on page where I could look at my application status. ( I submitted my VMCAS 9/30 and OSU supplemental 10/10).

I wanted to add that you shouldn't get upset if all your materials don't show up on that application status page. I e-mailed them, and apparently only transcripts will be listed when they receive them (not GRE scores, verification forms, etc). Thought you'd all like you know!
