Ha-ha so is mine!😀

:hijacked: Too Funny. Wow! this has totally got off track but was that Donny Osmond or KC (as in Sunshine Band) in that video with Weird Al? You know what's weird is; I know of many Engineer/ Veterinarian Couples. Must be some kind of chemistry there.

Just gotta be sure people are in touch with their inner (or not so inner) nerd. 🙂

BTW, totally off the main topic of the thread...this is my boyfriend's favorite song at the moment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xEzGIuY7kw

It makes him laugh so hard.

My SO is an engineer too...maybe we should start poll for that

I *think* that was Donny Osmond in the back. Too funny!

I think it was Donny Osmond. Although I have no idea why he is in that video!

My husband is a network engineer. Athough, when I met him in high school, he wanted to join the Air Force. Then he got an associate's degree in Collision & Auto Body Repair, and worked for two years at a local shop. Now, networking for OSU. Weird... vets and engineers.

It IS Donny Osmond. Again, no idea why.

According to Weird Al (on Wikipedia), it's because Donny Osmond was the "whitest white guy" Weird Al could think of. 😛

Don't ya just love Wikipedia!?

My SO and I are both engineers, but I've gone on to become a vet and he's gone into human med. I love the background/style of thinking my engineering degree gave me- especially because I'm interested in prosthetic research 😀
Engineers are the coolest 😛!

Like I said, my boyfriend is an engineer...but I lucked out (or chose well) because he is no more of a nerd than I am, very attractive, and a nice guy. And no, I will not share. 😛

Well said, Canadian Golden! I'm in the same boat as you--except that I've been married to my engineer guy for almost 11 years now. 😀 Never realized that there were so many of us out there....

I'm single, so it's nice to get to be completely selfish in my choice - picking where would fit ME best.

But then again, facing the prospects of going to school with pretty much all girls forever with no time to meet a nice guy is sort of daunting, jealous of all of you who have a great SO who can be supportive!

I'm with SillyFilly on this one. I'm typically not single, and in the past I've made too many bad choices based on my SO, so this time I'm GLAD to be single! Now I have nothing holding me back from making the best choice for ME instead of the best choice for the relationship. Although the thought of this condemning me to "Crazy Old Cat Lady-dom" is somewhat unappealing...

Not sure if being married counts in the "staying with your SO" bit!

I got VERY lucky to be accepted to my IS school off the waitlist. I have been married nearly 3 years and if I wouldn't have gotten in here I WOULD have gone where I did. It would have been difficult but we would have done it (and put lots of miles on the cars!). I feel VERY lucky :luck: to be able to stay here with my husband and family (parents, brother, aunt & uncle, friends, etc. everyone is here!).

Hey fellow SO-havers!!

I am curious if anyone has any experience with which vet school towns are good or bad for those of us bringing someone along...

...my husband works with a National company, West Marine, so most bigger cities/areas near water he could probably just transfer. That being said, he would really love to have a non corporate-retail job and we both REALLY want to live in the country. He has forestry training but is a UK citizen so can't join the US Forest Service 🙁. He also has aquarist training and works at the Oakland Museum here as a biologist/aquarist (haha, that makes it sound fancy-- he is the fish man!!!)

Anyway I am considering some schools such as Washington and Oklahoma but have some concerns about finding a job for hubby in a very small/remote town.

Anyone have any thoughts? Knowledge of these areas? I haven't had a chance to actually visit any schools yet (except Davis where I've been working for 3 years!)

I guess he could always work on a farm  he keeps bugging me to get him a tractor!

DH is a vet school student currently, so hopefully he'll get into a residency program in the same place I get into vet school. Either way, we'll eventually end up in the same place again, LOL 😉

As for Washington, Pullman is about an hour and a half from Spokane, which is a very large city, so if you lived in the middle somewhere it wouldn't be too bad of a commute. Just a thought! Good luck!

I got into my instate school where my boyfriend of 3.5 years and I go to school for undergrad. He will be here through at least my first year of Vet school, but he is applying to medical school for the class of 2013. So, we've got another year together for sure...then who knows!

I didn't answer the poll yet because I don't know! I am currently living in Germany to be closer to my SO of about 1.5 years, but I will probably be going to SGU and he still has a year to go travelling abroad in spain for his schooling...We haven't had THE TALK yet, but I have a sad feeling that things will end up not working out 🙁 Kinda sad knowing that I came over here to be with him, but at least I know if he isn't willing to do the same for me then it wasn't worth it. But everything happens for a reason, who knows what the future will bring? :luck:

My fiance is staying here. I am moving 3 1/2 hours away. We've been together for 10 years now and we will be fine. Ha I've heard the horror stories. I'll miss him like crazy. Actually I'm more worried about spring semester ~March when my adrenaline roll stops and I usually just get completely overwhelmed. He is my sanity at those times. Although I must say since I it has been strongly discuraged to work I may not crash. Most semesters so far I have worked and done school. We'll see. (end ramble) It is nice that if I want/need to come home for the weekend I can.

So I know it's been awhile since this thread had a go, but as it turns out my boyfriend and i ended up breaking up, mostly due to the long-term distance. 👎

anyone else in the same boat and have advice about how to concentrate full-time on studying with a broken heart? (wow does that sound corny haha)

Hi BlazeoGlory,

Sorry to hear about you and your boyfriend. That really sucks.

I'm going to SGU as well. And although I have a husband of nearly two years, he'll be staying here in Washington until we can figure out when he can move down. (Probably in January). It will definitely be hard living on an island away from all my loved ones! I don't have much advice to give you because I've never been great about studying with a broken heart... But I've found that exercising really helps me keep focus on my studies when I'm having a rough time with something emotionally. And the fact that most others are there in Grenada without loved ones kind of helps too because people tend to become pretty close in situations like that!

Well, I guess I'll be seeing you soon in Grenada! 🙂

Hope you start feeling better.

Thanks for the reply Hopeful 🙂 I guess it was jus one of those nights that I needed to vent! Things are starting to look up but I will definitely be taking advantage of the gym to relax :d

I really look forward to meeting you and everyone else on the island! Can't believe it's so soon...

My bf at the time moved to be with me - and he's now my hubby! 🙂

I'm going to be 1200 miles from my girlfriend. We are giving it a shot. She's working on her master's now and won't be finished for another two years. She plans on moving in with me after that. I am concerned that we may not survive the distance though. I'm also worried that the distance will distract me from my studies, but then again it could make it easier since I will have more time on my own. I guess I can only wait and see what happens.
