Don't care about location, prefer big cities. Have zero interest in primary care.
Interested in a P/F system, have interest in research, plan to take Step 1 and would love as much dedicated study time for it, and as little OMM time as possible. Also, no attendance.

Paging (Consulting):
@Alienman52 , @femmegoblue , @AlteredScale @gyngyn @Goro @LizzyM @cabinbuilder @Marrowist @Pagan FutureDoc
@drkube @Dr Tony T. Chopper @reunic @mamit1001 @Doctor_Strange @Higherprimate

KCU
44k tuition, Letter Grade +/-, less frequent exams, proximity to MD schools = research
cold weather, rotations are spread across
in house Derm and ENT residency, competitive step score
per this http://cdn.agilitycms.com/kansas-city-university/Attachments/programs/3rd and 4th Rotations.pdf curriculum sheet, sounds like you get 6-7 months for audition rotations?!

AZCOM
64K tuition, Letter Grade +/-, MULTIPLE exams weekly
rotations in East Phoenix, great weather
yearly match and step score have decreased

This is the most tags I've ever seen. You gunna be a hospitalist with all those consults? Lol!

Kcu right now isn't P/F which sucks. But I believe they are adjusting the grading but don't know how.

There's a good amount of research in KC. UMKC and KU are both available and you can contact alumni to do research as well. I have no info in regards to where azcom is or if research is around as well.

Azcom is a strong school. If it's pass fail it may be the one you want to go to! Good luck deciding!!

Both schools have their ups and downs for sure. If both schools are that high on the list, I would say prioritize location of support system (friends and family), and locations of available rotations/residencies.

They both seem like great schools though, good luck choosing! If you have specific questions about KCU, feel free to ask any of us 🙂

If money matters, then KCU. That 20k/year saves a lot more than you think.

I know...I'm concerned that perhaps the cost is the biggest factor influencing ny decision

I would choose KCU. They're comparable schools but the money difference is a lot. Kcu having in house ENT and derm (if they survive the merger) will be a benefit for you. There is probably access to research in those specialties. Research in a specific specialty > any other research when applying to a competitive specialty.

Strongly concur. Both are excellent schools, and I think both will give you great opportunities to be an "ologist" provided that you really work your tail off for step 1. The biggest thing that sticks out to me is that big tuition difference. You really won't get a big difference in pre clinical years at different DO schools, and since they both have great clinical years, looks like you'll be making a good decision either way. Good luck to you OP.

KCU dawg, the city is great and the school is great and has great scores and everything is great about it, great great great

These were among 2 of my choices last year.

I chose KCU at KC and it was not a hard decision.

Going to KCU saved me 20k PER YEAR in tuition alone over AZCOM.
Phoenix has terrible weather compared to KC and this is coming from a Cali applicant living in year long Mediterranean climate. Although, I don't know maybe you are a person who enjoys year long dry 100F+ weather.

Others would argue KCU has better board scores, better alumni history, better curriculum structure, etc, and I likely would agree, but honestly the fact that KCU was so much cheaper was enough.

I have a background in personal finance and economics so this meant a lot to me.

Just FYI there isn't any in house ENT or derm at kcu haha but we did have some great matches to those two specialties (Tulane and Mayo).

For the past three year there have been between 6-9 ortho matched a year which blows me away.

But yes in regards to the research wants nice is you have two great medical institutions UMKC and KU where a lot of research can be done if you reach out!
