Is an all wolf situation possible? Or was that just a joke? 😛
LIS & SOV made a game where almost everyone was a wolf. I was a wolf and didn't even know it until I died, then I was revived as a mute villager.
Additional conversation question for everybody: do you think there will be chaos players in this game, or do you think this game will stick to the more traditional villager & wolf roles?
I agree with others that chaos is not likely in this type of basics game.
Is conversion a part of classic mafia, or is that a less-original convention?
Could definitely be part of a basics game, but I also wouldn't be surprised if there were no converts (part of me hopes there are not any converts or resurrections).

Silly Jil. You could have made this three posts instead of one!

Whoops, I misread your original post as a question about RNGing in general. -___-

As for tie mechanics, what do you think Dy is trying to emphasize this game? I feel like mods trying to emphasize decisiveness in players opt for no one to die (thus encouraging plurality in the next vote), mods trying for faster games (or sick of lynch ties) will make everyone die, mods with crazy games have something weird happen during ties (see: timeline split in Trilt's Rick & Morty game), and mods who don't really have a big grand point to make (not tired of ties, no strange game mechanics, etc) will just RNG it.

The failure of anyone to tie during Favourite Things was heartbreaking to me. Had plans for a ridiculous cute gif-off competition.

To whoever posted the thing about conversions, I used to run one of the largest mafia bots on IIRC, and it was devoid of conversions. It was actually a fairly foreign concept for the traditional Mafia version. If we go to the basics of the WErewolf card game, there are no conversions at any number of players. So I would be tempted to say that it's not so common, but I didn't grow up on werewolf, I grew up on mafia

I loved your tie mechanic for the R&M game - it was a great reference to the source material and added a lot of intrigue to the game when people were trying to figure out who wolves were based on how many people in each reality died while the timelines were split.

How did that work?
Hilariously. My goal was to convince the actual villagers that they were wolves during that game. I was the alpha wolf of one of the like 500 wolf packs. But some wolves were fake wolves. And some were I think villagers in the mix, but very few? A lot of people weren't even told they were wolves. It was just one of those very meta type of games. I personally loved it for what it was, even if mechanistically it was possibly a bit over the top

Do people only play one game at a time? Are you allowed to play more?
Is anyone allowed to make a game thread?

Generally yes, with very few exceptions, it is too time consuming to follow multiple games and thugs of the games start to get intermixed in your mind/spreadsheets. You are allowed to if you want to.

You can, but it's highly recommended that you play several games and have a veteran on board to look over your first game to assist with stuff like balance.

I know, but that's fake in a way I thought. Hopefully the mod goddess will cut me some slack if I don't quite make my 10 comments today. I tend to be quiet in the beginning of games as I just watch others and take in information that I use later in the game.

It was interesting. In the beginning I could only post in dog gifs since I was a dog. Then when I was revivied I could only like posts and I think I could only vote via pm to the mods? It was a fun game for sure and if I had played more games previously on sdn, maybe I could have figured out the connection between role name and affiliation. I really enjoyed the game and the crazy concepts overall.

LIS, are your numbers based on past Dy games or the recent commentary on the last game? (I'm going to use the excuse of mobile device to not run around the interwebs searching without just asking first)

Oh, yanno, some of all of that coupled with talking to her about the tourney games. But, Dy and I don't necessary see eye to eye on wolf numbers (I don't really know if we do or not), so it's essentially one big starting point guess.

It's sad when you realize something you meant to post hours earlier is still sitting in the comment box and conversation has moved on, so the relevance is lost along with any chance of getting even a little giggle.

LIS' goal is to pick a fight with DVMD at some point during the game just so she and I can more easily make our post count. You in, DVMD?

Please do, I'll start.....

Damn it would you please tag me from now on so I don't have to dig back through the thread to find the one post you mentioned my name in???? Rage. Rage. Fight. Rage :rage:

Or something like that

In reference to chaos, I'd be surprised if there was one, but dyachei definitely surprises me sometimes so I wouldn't completely count it out either.

By delaying until the last minute it discourages useful back and forth. Personally, I'll vote to lynch people that I perceive as intentionally holding back like that. A villager has little to lose by chatting. A wolf has to be more cautious and gauge the flow and wind.

This. This game and locating wolves is only going to work out with quite a bit of discussion. The minimum post count is intended to keep discussion flowing instead of random bandwagons and plurality lynches. Those that I notice continually holding off, I'll probably lynch.

I am not liking the post quota. It's boring to read a dozen posts on the meaning and usage of RNG. I feel like some people are just posting to post, not because there's any actual content or speculation about other players.

The general game questions will decrease with time. It happens anytime there are noobs. We've all had to deal with it.

You have to create speculation. You have to start to learn to read people and mention when you think something is off. It isn't easy at first, but it gets better with time. This is how ww is supposed to work.

Speaking of chaos and other game things. What are the thoughts on items this game. I'm thinking no but curious what others think.

I was also thinking no, though I guess that depends on whether or not items are equivalent to roles in the sense of people relying on them too heavily, and not doing the detective/logic work themselves.

I don't know Dy well enough to guess my way through her game-building logic. 😛

I'm also on board thinking there's no items. But then again, I rarely get items even in games that do have them

I think even if there are items, the game sounds like it's set up so we shouldn't be waiting around relying on them. I personally am not expecting to have items play a huge role or do big fancy things, if they even exist.

Thinking about it, items don't make any sense in this game. The staples seem to be seer items or boosting items - definitely don't think there would be a seering item. Boosting items aren't helpful when no one actually has a role.

Secretly I hope lynch tally updates will count for our posts, but I think I know the answer to that.

My lit class last semester was really heavy on word count. 350 word responses to critical essays, that sort of thing . . . this post-count is giving me uncomfortable flashbacks to my all nighters and word count angst.

So in terms of useful game-related strategic thoughts: Currently I have none. Anything I might have come up with on my own has already been said (multiple) times. Once at least 1 person dies we can speculate a lot more

lynch sheltermed because all first-time players should get at least 1 lynch vote in their first lynch

Post count 1 or 2?/10

Yeah, except I am pretty sure DY is in the not a fan of chaos in general, so in a simple game that focuses on strategy, I could see her viewing it as a distraction.
Hmmmm idk about that. Maybe I confuse my love of chaos for her lack of love of chaos but :thinking: ... I'm still coming up with new fun types of strategies that I can put in future games .

I agree with Rojo that there isn't much strategy able to be posted the first day. Maybe in the future for games like this it may be better to start with a night cycle? At least then we have a death to go on, which might not tell us much, but at least it is something.

I really don't like the idea of starting out on a night. I know the first couple days are usually slow and blind, but at least we've got a 1/28 shot of bagging a wolf D1.

I guess going off of what zen was talking about, roles and who had what item will mean very little. I think my spreadsheet is gonna be pretty straightforward. The roles and who said what and what I think about it.

I don't know who said it (can't go check right now), but I agree with whoever said that I think people might be blowing off roles too quickly and too easily. Sure, Dy implied they would be diminished somewhat, but .... I doubt this is 100% vanillager vs 100% vanillawolfie.

And in one sense, roles are more critical than ever - in recent (like, last few YEARS) games, mods have gotten ever more fond of giving wolfy-sounding roles to villagers, and villager-sounding roles to wolves, etc. All in the name of giggling behind the scenes at the confused villagers. In this game, it's much more likely that roles are straight-up.

Just an update, we've had 1 person reach their minimum already. Please look at the discussion so far today and compare to other games you have played and think about how they differ 🙂

Just as feedback from the player perspective .... (and I know you and I are on the same page with regard to encouraging discussion) .... I feel like 10/day cycle is a lot. I suspect 5/day cycle would accomplish the same goal without putting so much pressure on people. I'm a bit worried I'm going to have to be (or end up being) sub'd out because of failure to participate, just based on scheduling alone <even with> the 36-hr days (which I love).

Not trying to pick an argument - just feedback.

Starting on a day cycke is also good because voting patterns and behavior in the first lynch can also be useful to pay attention to. I mean, it's possible that those things mean nothing and the wolves and villagers are acting exactly the same, but easily-accessed information is scarce in a game with no PMing. We have to try and glean as much info from the thread as possible instead of relying on someone with a cool role to do the info-gathering for us.

I really don't like the idea of starting out on a night. I know the first couple days are usually slow and blind, but at least we've got a 1/28 shot of bagging a wolf D1.

And in addition, starting on a night means some poor schmuck player joins the game and then - blam - gets killed by the wolves and is dead before they even get a chance to do anything. At least with a day cycle you can talk and argue and try to avoid being lynched.

And what @guisantes said.

@dyachei, can we get a rule clarification? In games of recent, mods have been allowing editing of posts.

What is the rule for this game?

.... and if you could answer all this stuff before surgery, that'd be great.

Priorities. 😉

(But seriously, keeping you in mind and hoping for a good procedure.)

I get it. But 10 is really not that much. I *want* a little pressure on people. FWIW, if someone doesn't meet the 10 post minimum it's not automatic ejection from the game. You just lose some opportunities. If you're still trying to participate, I'm not going to kick you out.

As for editing? Please no. Think before you type.

This is exactly the mindset you need to get out of. This is what the minimum post count is attempting to battle. Because everyone uses this as an excuse (I do it, too).
