c/o 2018 applicants

Good to know! Still nothing updated on mine. I haven't had a chance to call the other two schools yet...did you include the transcript request form that you download from VMCAS though? I just straight up ordered my transcripts through the school's websites without attaching any forms...that's what I'm worried about. 🙁

I ordered my transcripts when VMCAS first opened at the start of June and included the VMCAS transcript request form with each one (I had 3). All transcripts were ordered directly from the schools themselves. In order to include the VMCAS form, I needed to fax it (once I had signed it), and include a digital note (there was a space for this) on my transcript request form instructing the powers that be to include my signed VMCAS request form along with my official transcript before shipping it off to VMCAS. I confirmed this with all three institutions and didn't have any trouble. My transcripts were sent and received by VMCAS within 10 days of request.

The smart move. I don't have the capability to fax...well, I suppose I could have gone to a store like Staples...so I figured I'd just risk it. I find it weird that one transcript has been received, yet the other two haven't. I didn't include a form with any of them...so you'd think if that was the issue, then none of my transcripts would be listed as received. 😕 I'll reorder tomorrow with the form if need be...I should contact the schools first.

Sorry to say I had no idea where to post this:
Would a GRE Score of 159 (Quant) and 163(Verbal) be competitive for In-State at LSU?
Thanks in advance

What were your percentiles?

I didn't do any forms. Honestly I didn't even know there was one :scared:

I think I'm just being paranoid. You said they received all of yours, correct? I called my other two schools and one mailed out 8/15 and the other just mailed out on Monday...so I just need to relax and give it time. -deep breath-

You only have to have one LOR submitted by September 1. The rest are due by the Oct 2 deadline. Hope that helps!

Does this mean we can still register a LOR writer after the application is submitted?

It might be worth asking him if you can't contact the other vet. It's better than being left in the wind right? And I know how you feel. I wanted to apply to Tufts but they require 2 professor letters and for the life of me I couldn't get a second professor to write one for me. Moral of the story though is it never hurts to ask.

Thanks, you're right. I should at least ask him.

It might be awkward, but if he's willing to provide you with a more "work" oriented recommendation, it's something to consider, even if he doesn't have a huge personal history with you. You can give him your PS or draft a narrative about yourself and your interests and what you learned shadowing him.

He probably has an impression about you and your abilities that he can comment on.

Thank you, this is a good idea. I'll speak with him on Saturday when I shadow him and see what he thinks. And I'll bring my PS just in case 🙂

Unfortunately, no. As I understand the rules, after you submit you can't change that part of the application, so you would need the contact information entered and request e-mail sent by September 1st. The recommenders still have until October 2nd to submit the recommendation though.

I'm not sure if anyone else has asked, but can you still resend the request e-mail if you've submitted and, say, the recommender accidently deletes it or something? That's one little nagging worry that has been at the back of my mind. I'd love to submit this weekend but I don't want to get too impatient and rush forward without making absolutely sure that my recommenders have the means to submit the eLoR.

Yep they received them. I totally understand the paranoia......it's not like we have much room for error 😳

What is this form? I just sent mine to them and they said received but I had no form with them...

It's just a form supplied through VMCAS that supposedly helps keep things sorted and makes it easier to match transcripts with your application. It wasn't compulsory...obviously. I think the site just mentioned that it may take more time to process transcripts without the attached form...

Ninja edit: From the VMCAS site, under the "Instructions" tab, "Including the Transcript Request Form with your official transcript allows VMCAS to more efficiently match your transcript to your application. Official transcripts that are not accompanied by the Transcript Request Form when they arrive at VMCAS may take longer to post to your application."

Crazy day today. I was just accepted to a PhD program at Texas A&M that I was originally told there was no funding for. Definitely accepted the offer as tuition is paid and I get a hefty monthly stipend. However, classes start Monday and I live 3 hours away! Yikes! I'll only be applying to Texas A&M CVM now since I would like to do the dual degree option. Hard decision, but I think it best. Now to not sleep for the next 72 hours! Ahh!

Congrats that's awesome! Good luck over the next 3 days!

I am applying to 10 universities, and am freaking out right now with all the supplemental apps (and costs). Good luck everyone!

I'm applying to 9 - a big number as well, because I'm OOS everywhere and really really scared. I have 6 of my apps knocked out and can't wait to be done with all this!

OOS too! I don't have any of the supplemental apps completed, just bits of some of them. Last night I couldn't even sleep 'cause of the stress lol... Plus I can't submit my VMCAS until I get an online biochemistry grade I'm waiting for on the mail.

Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of applying, but since my stats aren't so great I was hoping to get some feedback from anyone who may have had any luck getting in with stats similar to mine, or just any feedback in general.

GPA:I have a 3.1 total GPA, but I transferred schools after my mom got sick so my cGPA is a 3.6 now. Not sure which one schools will look at more. I have around a 2.9 science GPA. I know...ochem and physics were killer :scared:

GREI took my GRE a few days ago and scored a 150 V, 153Q. Not great either, I know.

ExperienceI have around 1500 vet experience hours, and thousands of hours of animal experience in general (animal ownership, pet sitting, etc.)

Community activities/Awards: Delta Epsilon Iota, Sigma Alpha Lambda, NSCS, Pre vet club, science honor society, water polo, soccer, swimming, national honor society, national english honor society, volunteering as a sailing coach for 2 years, Florida medallion scholarship, Royal poinciana scholarship, Elsa Glazer award, and Dean's list 2 semesters.

After I moved home when my mom got sick, it really put things into perspective for me and made me mature as a person. That was the semester I made dean's list despite having to take care of her. I realize my GPA isn't so great, and I only have myself to blame for that, but I don't think I was mature enough yet back then. Anyway, I want to know what my chances are of actually getting into one of these schools (besides the international ones I'm applying to.) I'd really love to stay in the states for school. Here are the schools I applied to:

CSU, Illinois, Mississippi, VMRCVM, UF, KSU, UGA, Penn, Wisconsin, Washington State, Ross, St. George's.

Do you have an IS? UGA will be hard if your OOS since they have a very limited number of spots. Wisconsin and CSU put a great deal of emphasis on grades and experience. CSU usually has an average around a 3.6 for cumGPA and Wisconsin is like a 3.8 avg if you're OOS. Your vet hours are a good number, so that shouldn't really hold you back unless it's only in one area (some schools like more variety) Also, if you put this in the "what are my chances" you might get a bit more feedback.

I'm OOS as well and have everything but the essay for Illinois and the essays for NCSU done. My personal statement just needs some fine tuning at this point. We're almost done!

You could always put Biochem as in progress and submit the transcript when you can... I had a summer transcript that only became available yesterday (I submitted VMCAS about a month ago) and VMCAS was okay with me submitting everything ahead of time and then turning that in whenever I could.

👍 I second this idea.

Thanks! I will do that. 🙂

So I can submit my VMCAS even if some eLORS are still not submitted by evaluators?

Yayy! Congrats epivet! That is awesome!

Thank you both!!! 😀 This has been the craziest, most stressful past few days of my life. I still have so much to do. But I've managed to secure housing where I can keep all my pets (cat, dog, snakes, lizard), and got everything ready for registration...Just need to register, haha. There's next to no good parking permits left...which sucks. But I'm hoping I can get staff parking since I'll technically be working for the university. I'll know more tomorrow.

I keep checking VMCAS...I'm not sure what to do with the application since I won't be submitting it. Do I just let it sit? Feels weird...

Ugghhh.....just can not think what I want to say for these supplementals!?!?

It's alright, we all feel the same! I kind of just used some stuff about myself that might be interesting and tried to make it sound really interesting. Good luck!

I did it! I pressed submit!! Now for the waiting game....:scared:

does anybody know the statistics for oregon? i looked online and didn't see any

man.... im all done with my application but VMCAS still hasnt received my transcript 🙁 I sent it on the 12th of August and called in and they said they would receive it in the mail by the deadline.. I hope this is not because I forgot to fill in the form that you need to attach to it.....

Do you have to wait for it to say "received transcript" before you can submit the application?

I would say probably "no." It looks like they have a "submitted/not completed" status which is likely what your application would get listed as if you were to submit before your transcript was matched to your account. This is the first year they're doing transcripts this way so the only real way to find out how this would affect your application is to call VMCAS.

Got an email yesterday saying my transcripts have been verified! Only took 2 days.

Aaarrrgghh PS is at 5197 characters. I don't know what else to take out. I really like it the way it is. Such a tough decision....which sentence or two to delete? They all seem so vital.
Bleh, ok, I'm done complaining now. 🙂

Ew, that sucks, remi 🙁 Have you had others look at it?

Well, I officially finished my PS tonight (hooray!) and it is, get this,...exactly...5,000 characters!, including spaces, of course.

When Ernest Hemingway said, "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed", he was not kidding.*

Yeah, i've had several people look at it. i'm now down to 5063. I've been taking out adjectives, and doing only one space after a period instead of two. I think I'll come back to it tomorrow. Maybe a fresh perspective?? Plus, I'm procrastinating. I should be studying for my orgo quiz, ha!
Wow, 5000 exactly! That's impressive! Congrats on being done with it!!

I was over the other day and I found some spaces being used up in between paragraphs. I also found that using a thesaurus to find a shorter synonym helped! haha 😀

The 5,000 character limit is torture. Mine is at 4,950 and it took a long time to cut it down. If you're stuck, remove any extra spaces in between sentences. I normally put 2, but this called for an exception. You may also be able to cut out a few commas or change "and" to "&." I was going to have to resort to that if the spacing reduction didn't fix my problem.

Whoa. I definitely suggest *not* using symbols to replace words in a formal piece of writing. Your personal statement is not a text or status update. You don't know who will be reading, and judging, your writing. I know that I would be very turned off by that. Just sayin'.

Absolutely second this. Using an ampersand seems very informal. Find some fluff to delete and make it less verbose, or just flat out cut material instead.

Quality beats quantity...you by no means need to fill every last character.

Agree, agree, agree! Do not use ampersands, and do not cut out commas where they are needed. Proper grammar is so important.

For sake of posting this on each of the following schools threads does anyone know if the following schools want you to include animal ownership hours?

Kansas, Purdue, Penn, Ohio, Mississippi and Missouri

I was going to leave it out, but remembered how schools like Virginia wanted them included.

Pretty sure Penn doesn't count it unless you're involved in showing, breeding or something else along those lines. Can't speak for the others. Contact admissions to be sure.

Honestly, you can always just put it in your application and let the vet schools decide for themselves.

I did it! My application is officially, "MEETING VMCAS REQUIREMENTS" :soexcited:

I can't believe how quickly time flew! It feels like it was just a few months ago that I started my prereqs. When I started them I had written out a semester-by-semester plan and I actually stuck to it 😀 I could almost cry...

Now, onto supplementals... :help:

My advice is that if you think one of the schools you are applying to wants it then just put it in. Any school that doesn't count ownership hours will just ignore them. No harm done unless you're counting a ridiculous number of hours.
