Reading the website, taking notes on questions I thought were difficult to answer (questions in the Interview section of SDN). Also, coming up with good questions to ask them so if they say "do you have any questions for us" I dont say, "nah, you pretty much covered it" lol. I am pretty much doing the same thing. I'm trying to make a list of possible questions and I'm writing down the answers to the hard ones. Also, I'm gonna have a mock interview at my school. I would suggest you do the same. Hopefully you have Career Center at your school, they can help you a lot. If not, ask a physician to interview you-- practice is always good. That's my plan for now. For all you Westernites, I want to be a resource. I'm an OMS-1 who just had his first day of class at Western. I might even be able to make arrangements for overnight stays and transportation to Western, if it fits my schedule. PM if interested!
 
Hi, I'm brand new to SDN but have been reading it on and off during the past year and definitely appreciate the sense of community. My question is: I applied to Touro CA last year and it's my first choice school. Last year, I applied late because I took the MCAT in August and didn't get everything together until November (got my scores late October). I was invited to submit a secondary to Touro CA but this spring I was notified that they were no longer interviewing. Apparently they had a record number of applicants last year, and filled the class and wait-list early.

Sorry for the long intro to my situation ... basically, I reapplied -- submitted app to AACOMAS in June and they verified and mailed late July. (By the way, CALL AACOMAS if it seems like one of your transcripts is taking forever to get to them; I attended a UC for undergrad and later took classes through a UC Extension, and AACOMAS sat on one of the transcripts for 3 weeks because they didn't understand these are separate institutions). I haven't heard anything from Touro CA, even though the admissions office said they would pull my secondary and letters of rec for review this application round. I'm wondering if anyone else is in a situation similar to mine? I don't want to harrass the admissions office but I am so nervous! I'm PRAYING for an interview ...

I wanted to remind you all that make sure when you have early interviews that you really want to go to that school if they accept you. If it is just a maybe then put off the interview date for a few weeks if they let you.

Here is why...... Let's say School A accepts you in mid Sept, you will then have 2-3 weeks to send in your deposit (can be as much as $2000). Now if you are waiting for other interviews you will have to decide if you should send in that deposit which is nonrefundable, or hold out for School B or C which you like very much but havent been interviewed at yet and may not be ever. Just keep in mind interview dates, acceptance time frames and deposits that will be due.

On this same note, I would like to remind you to keep an open mind. The school that granted you your first interview may not be your top choice but when you get there DO NOT stay with that frame of mind. You would be surprised that you may actually fall in love with that school.

Do your research on all schools and remember, you are one step away from getting into medical school, keep an open mind.

nova hasnt even sent me a secondary invite yet. How long did it take for you guys to hear from them after your primary was mailed?

Actually it was awhile. I had my AACOMAS verified early July, as well as LORs and I got the Nova secondary just a few weeks ago.

Primary was turned in on the first day. heard from NOVA on the 7/24, decided not to complete the application due to the what other MD and DO schools did you apply to.

VCOM gave me no love either. They said they wanted my summer AND fall grades. I'm going to chalk that up as a rejection.

For those with the NSU invites, are you counting on cabs to get you to the hotel/school? Also, they said they would be sending out packets, when should we be expecting those?

I applied to Nova relatively late, just about 3 weeks ago. I got the secondary about 6 days later. I would call and make sure they got your primary.

I think in most cases you do have an option to reschedule -- I had to reschedule mine due to moving that day.

If you don't mind my asking, when did you submit your secondary there? I am hoping to have mine in by the end of the month, due to waiting on a letter. :scared: I hope that's not too late.

hiya...ooh sorry for the crazy post above..thanks or the well wishes:)... I was just sooo excited I wasn't expecting to hear anything else for a while now...:)...ummm I submitted my sec on 7/22 but i didn't pay until 8/10.. i was nervous..wow that was almost three weeks:)... i think we ae super early for DO schools right now...which is awesome... I think being complete by sept is okay..but I understand your concern I was just going through that until last week...

this school was high on my list....:)

hiya I am not in school anymore...but they have a biochem distance learning course we can take...i will either enroll in that or take biochem at my school in the spring term... i just took physics during summer session so it can't be harder than that:) and there are plenty of courses we can take online...if their distance learning suffices I will have to ask if others school's online courses count towards the requirement... oooh that could be an interview question...or maybe I will just call and ask them tomorrow:)

This sucks watching all of you get interview invites while I am still waiting on my advisor to sent out my LORs!! I had my file complete July 1st and he said it takes 2-3 weeks after that to send everything out, and here is has been like 7!!:mad: Its so frustrating, seems like everything that can go wrong, is! My MCAT scores somehow had the incorrect SSN, that took 2 weeks to fix, some of my transcripts "got lost in the mail" and I had to resend them after a month of waiting for them to come in, and now this!!:mad::mad: I just hope I am getting all of the bad luck out of the way now and I will get an acceptance at my first interview, if that ever comes:(

My advisor hasn't even started the committee letter yet. So although I may be getting interview invites, I probably won't be getting acceptance/rejection letters anytime soon from those schools. You just have to wait it out.

She sends them all out at the same time, so I haven't sent out any letters yet.

if someone could answer- i was just wondering how long after you turned in your secondary app. and your file was complete at the university did it take to get your interview invite? also, if they are not going to offer you one, do they inform you of that or do they basically ignore the application and you never hear from them? i would appreciate your help! thanks and congrats again to all those with interview invites! good luck!
