Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep. I sometimes have to ask the store to order the tall pants for me, I can get by with a medium scrub top, but the pant length is where I have my issues too. I have never had a problem with the length of the tall pant bottoms.

Thx for the tip. I'll give Cherokees a try. Easy enough to get.

i have the grey's anatomy scrubs -- super duper comfortable but also a bit expensive. i recently got a couple pairs of med couture scrubs which i actually like more than the grey's anatomy ones.

ETA: i like both these brands esp because they come in a petite size....considering i'm 5'2" this is much appreciated! 😀

Oh, those sound good, too. The problem with me is that at 5'4", I'm still short...but 'petites' generally show a little too much foot/ankle, whereas the 'regulars' I'm dragging the hems on the floor. *sigh*

This is a stupid height. 🙁

Were the Greys scrubs comfy? Would you say they are worth the price?

They are super comfy.

Idk about worth the price but they are miles above other scrubs I tried on.

Wow, I see we've moved on from stethoscope color to scrub fashion. 😱

80% Female 20% Male... 😉

Sunnex, those med couture ones are REALLY cute. I love the contrasts! AND several have badge pockets or badge loops. We have to use ours to access the buildings and some of the rooms in the vet school, so I'm thinking that'd be super handy.

Are the med couture ones as comfortable as the Greys, or do you just like them based on the awesome cuteness factor? 😉

why am I the only one that can't find scrubs that don't make me look like Blaine from Glee?

:laugh::laugh: Not sure what's funnier...
picturing this, or the fact that you watch Glee 😛

See...when you have a female body...you are often discouraged by the amount of 'unisex' scrubs out there. Most make you look pudgy and "shapes" (this one will only make sense if you know Dane Cook, haha). They are terrible. Nothing is worse than putting on ill-fitting scrubs and going through the day knowing you look like a nasty blob.

Yes. Scrub fashion is very important to us females who are not shaped like this muscular athletes. 🙁

I have mostly Iguana Med scrubs and I love them. They are on the expensive side, but they are very comfortable (bought Wal-mart scrubs when I first started and felt trapped and couldn't move my arms well (I have wide shoulders and a long upper body)). The Iguana med tops fit me perfectly, but the pants are too tight unless I get a large (I wear a Medium in other brands) and then they are REALLY REALLY lose and I need the tie to keep them on. The length is good though (the same for Medium and long though, which was weird).

I have a pair of Cherokees and like the Cherokee pants better, but overall like the Iguana med better.

I am actually very thankful for unisex scrubs, women's tops are always way to short for me.

Fair enough. I just don't know how to weigh in on "awesome cuteness factors". It's not in my hard-wiring. 😀

Quiet you. Enjoy in the bask of your possible new home.

I'll parade around like a model in my fashionable scrubs!

It's cool. 😉 We still love you even if you have an extra appendage.

THIS is why you shouldn't complain!! 😀

Me neither! I'm lucky if my scrubs shirt and pants match on any given day.

What?! We get ours at orientation like three days before classes start. 🙁

You people choosin' your own stethoscope tube colors, gettin' IDs...I'ma merk you all. 😉

Side note: Has anyone ever worn the Grey's Anatomy brand scrubs? I'm pondering getting a few. A friend said they are hugely comfortable.

Probably a bit late, but sooooo comfortable. I have like 3 pairs and an additional pair of red bottoms.

That's it!! You are definitely not welcome to my soon-to-be-formed Male Vet Students Club gatherings and social events. You'll have to follow our antics via the live online stream from home.

Sorry. I just wasn't getting my daily required attention quota met and acted out inappropriately. I am truly ashamed of myself.
:welcome::biglove::hello:

Please do carry on with the discussion. And may abundant cuteness factors be abound for all of you.:xf:

I have both Greys and Iguana scrubs. Price-wise they are comparable, but Iguana has a lot more pockets, which I love. But the Greys are a little softer.

I think I like them equally.

Why would I want to attend a boy's club??? Sounds like a frat party if you ask me. I know how much you love 'em 😉

Clearly I was referring to our social events and gatherings. Where guys and girls get together and there is zero mention of either stethoscope colors or designer scrubs fabric. You can act like you don't care, but I know deep down you will be wondering what we're up to. 😛

You said soon to be formed male vet club! Clearly your self conscious is telling you something else 🙂

I have quite a few pairs, but I adore them! One of the styles fits me wonderfully and the fabric is super comfy. They are definitely more expensive, but I can also be really bothered by certain fabrics (there were some clothes I refused to wear growing up because they rubbed me the wrong way), so I get over the extra cost because I can wear them for 12-hours and not get itchy or bothered by rougher fabrics.

Yes! This is part of the reason why I love that one cut of the Grey's Anatomy scrubs. I don't have much in the way of boobs to begin with, so put me in a ill-fitting unisex scrub top and, poof, they're gone! The more feminine cut is super nice and I just feel more put together and presentable.

👍 Yep.

What color range are you guys shooting for in your scrub selection. We aren't allowed to have patterned scrubs only solids, but I still want to have fun colors.... 🙄

the med couture ones i found to be MORE comfy than the grey's.....it's a good mix of stretch and soft fabric, and personally they frame my body in a more flattering way than the grey's anatomy ones. plus i love the colors! i have the black with pink piping, blue with green piping, and i really want the light grey with light pink piping. they're the perfect length to wear with my danskos 🙂love🙂....the ONLY drawback is that they're a tad low rise, so if you don't wear an undershirt to tuck in, sometimes your crack can show!!! 😱 but i find them to be a better investment than the grey's.

btw, for some reason scrubs color/stethoscope color is super important to me even though i'm not a super girly girl (i'm lucky if my hair looks acceptable on any given day)......hahaha.

ETA: while we're on the topic of workplace fashion......i think everyone should invest in a pair of danskos. i don't know what i did at work before i bought them, but i can't wear any other pair of shoes to work now. i think the pair i got is gonna last me forever too!!!

Don't get red then . I'm dressed for Christmas if I wear green scrubs and the 4th of July if I wear blue . I like my stethoscope though and wouldn't trade it for any other color. I was gonna get blue, but others already had blue and at the place I worked at you had to watch your stuff like a hawk so I figured bright red was the best bet, plus red is my favorite color, so it worked out.

Thanks for the input! 🙂 I keep reading "stretch panel" in the description...is it really like a jersey-type stretchy material as the sides? Or is the fabric just more stretchy than usual scrub material (which stretches, oh, NONE. Haha).

Also, what type of danskos? D'ya have a picture or link?

Anyone have suggestions on numbers of scrubs pairs to buy? I sewed 2 on my own but might buy a few more.

Well for our program, they told us we didn't even need scrubs for our first year. The only occasion we would need them for was if she went into any of the clinics to shadow or if you wanted to wear them instead of something. But that is just our program 🙂

Hm. Weird. We have to wear scrubs on Anatomy days. Which is like 3-5 days of the week. Most people just wear scrubs every day to make sure they don't forget to wear them on an anatomy day. Haha.

I wonder why schools differ so much?

As in your not allowed to wear normal
clothes to anatomy lab? Huh I wonder why schools differ so much. We have a lab coat we can wear for anatomy.

We use them mostly for labs in our program since its better to dirty up a pair of scrubs and not a pair of nice jeans or something. Other than that, we have to dress professionally for class, every time...😎

We wore lab coats for anatomy (Penn) although I hated having the filthy sleeves so I just wore a scrub top over my normal clothes instead of the coat.

We didn't need any scrubs first year that I can remember. Sweatpants would have been a better investment! And coats for second year... our room was freezing.

For our anatomy labs, the supplies list says we will need 'coveralls' (like the kind for mechanics?? I have no idea I'm waiting to be assigned a Big so I can ask...). This makes me chuckle when I think about how messy previous classes must have gotten that full coveralls are now a requirement 🙂

I know we take first year introduction to surgery so we possibly need them for that class?

Hahaha, I present to you: Coveralls! http://www.automotiveworkwear.com/RedKap/CP40/coveralls.html

This is my grandpa's favorite style and color. 😉

Dang! We are going to look incredibly cool. Maybe vet students were responsible for bringing jumpsuits back. Fashion now favored by geriatrics the world over and celebrities including JLo, Snookie and Fergie. We really are taking over the world!!

::laugh::laugh:🤣

Lots of large animal vets wear coveralls 🙂 We wear them for doing some large animal clinical stuff.

I would hold off on buying scrubs / coveralls until you've been given specific instructions from your school - my school has color requirements for some things so I would hate to see you spend money only to have something be the wrong color.

ETA: I don't think you would wear coveralls in any surgical situations though.

I've been having lots of dreams about vet school lately.... Last night I had a dream that vet school was like elementary school and my best friend (not going to vet school) was there with me. One assignment was to make a picture book about being in vet school....

We do 8 weeks of rotations that we need scrubs for, plus we need scrubs for anatomy. I am thinking like 5 or 6 pairs?

That sounds like one of the activities they're likely to make us do during COLE. Before the handholding and kumbaya singing but after the mandatory hugs. Maybe it was a premonition?

This may be a stupid question, but what do students wear when they are in class all day? Business casual, casual, or extremely casual? By extremely casual I mean are people wearing pajamas and sweat pants to class?

Pretty sure I get to wear whatever. I asked in my interview this year if there was any sort of dress code and I got blank stares because one didn't exist. Then told some students about how Auburn is business casual and they were shocked. If I had gotten into Auburn, I don't think I could have handled that. When I applied, didn't think it would bother me, but the more I thought about it, the more I wasn't a fan.

Don't think I would wear pajamas though. Maybe scrub/yoga pants on a super lazy day, but I'm usually a jeans person. I sometimes felt too casual at my undergrad cause I would see people in dresses and like 3 inch heels/wedges. Not necessary.

Uh, if I had to wear business causal everyday, I would be one unhappy person. I will stick to my jeans and hoodies, thanks.

Hence the reason I wasn't too bummed about being rejected. They explained why they have the dress code, and I kind of get it, but I don't know. I really don't want to be sitting in class all day like that. Especially when it's a million degrees like it gets down there. I would just want to be in running shorts and a t-shirt. And they said something about no shorts before 5 PM...
