Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You guys can do it!! It really isn't that bad, promise.

Went over the skull self-assessment questions at the end of my lab sheet. 40 questions, I have not finished going over all of the skull yet but I just wanted to see what I have remembered/what I need to focus on. I was able to get 27 out of 40 correct, which is passing!! YAY!! And now I know what parts of the skull I need to focus on. 🙂

Things I currently remember about the skull: It's in your head. It houses yer brain. There's a foramen. It has joints. It's made of bone. My dissection cat 6 years ago was fat and we couldn't find the masseter.

The end.

😆

LOVE IT!! I wish it could be that basic.
"Basic" about sums up how I feel about my knowledge and understanding of the vast majority of things contained in the prerequisite courses...eep!

First day of classes tomorrow! :scared: Just trying to organize all my crap so I won't have to do it when things get crazy. My desk broke during the move, too 🙁

I'm very anxious to see how your first day goes!! Good luck, you'll do great!

Good luck everyone. Our first day is Wednesday. Pretty excited to get started, all the orientation stuff has been like get ready it's gonna be tough and you have to work together, now I just wanna get in there and get to work!

I hope everyone so far has had a GREAT first day!! Please let the people who haven't started yet know how it went 😉

Sorry I've been so MIA lately guys. Been all moved into the apartment without internet until today. Orientation hasn't even started yet and I've already met some great people who I feel really close to.

Found out who my mentor is and she's supposed to be awesome so I'm super excited. I was actually in her house the other night for a 1st year pot luck dinner.

Not really a fan of having to be at the school tomorrow at 8 AM for orientation though.

Oh. And I'm pretty sure I saw SOV walking his dogs the other day too.

AHHH first day of class today!!!! 😀😀😀

So far, nothing too bad. I was honestly expecting something worse, but it wasn't that bad. And most of the lectures were review.

What else...I got my bone box today (yay for bones!), got my locker, got my lab group...oh and my big left me a "survival kit"...literally filled with chocolate, wine, bandaids, and febreeze!

So, all in all I'd say it was a good first day!

So, those of you that had your first day... how did it go? 🙂

I hope everyone so far has had a GREAT first day!! Please let the people who haven't started yet know how it went 😉

Today went fine. Felt slightly overwhelmed in Histology and I can already tell I don't like the professor's teaching style so it is something I will have to overcome a little bit. The material wasn't overwhelming, just his way of presenting it and confusing us all. Molecular Bio was fine, and Professional Development was a nice break/ slightly entertaining.
Anatomy was fun as always. Unfortunately (as it has ALWAYS worked out for me) my group got the gigantic dog with a shiz ton of fat on it 😡. At one point we had the whole class over admiring how gigantic he is. Gorgeous big american bulldog mix... poor mr. man.
Overall a good day.
I am trying to make sure I don't get too caught up in club meetings so I can focus on my studies. (Already signed up for a meeting tomorrow and Wed though... can't say no to free Carabbas and BBQ 😉

Histology lab starts tomorrow... I'm pretty excited about it 😀

Hope everyone had a great day!

Please tell me that this (the bolded part) is sarcasm...

 Actually I am one of those freaks who likes anatomy lab. More than didactic crap at least.

Weirdo....

I can not wait to be out of the lab. Although today was not as bad, we covered the thorax and body wall today (much more interesting than the rest of anatomy so far). I hate the limbs, hate them, despise them... horrible, horrible things.

I was told that week 4 is an exam on every square inch of the limbs. :scared:
I agree... hate the limbs. Anatomy makes sense though if you learn your descriptive body region terms and directional terms. That's how I tend to learn them instead of memorizing random names.

I've got a test on the whole thoracic limb on Wednesday... yeah the limbs are not my best friend right now.

I think I'm gonna have nightmares tonight about that pic Emiloo...:scared:

Yeah I like anatomy lab as well..... I like to be able to visualize things, so much easier for me then reading it out of a textbook, so dissection was one of my favorite classes.... we break it down different here then you all do in the states..... last year we did thoracic cavity and abdomen & pelvis... this year I will do the head and neck and the limbs.... we work with greyhounds, so there is really very little fat on them.... and they bring in other animals as well to work on horses, ponies, sheep, cows, pigs.....

The hardest thing for me was the exam process.... which is all practical.... the midterm was a multiple choice with stations we had to go around and identify things in specimens and then essays where we had to draw diagrams..... and the final was an oral exam.....

met orca2011 in person! 🙂

and i saw SOV earlier too i think....i saw two italian greyhounds on the street.

First day of vet school tomorrow! Got my class notes today, 200+ pages for each class 😱. Ready to get started though! Ohio has this thing called Buck-I-Frenzy, it was really fun and there was a ton of free stuff! Got a coupon book for Krogers for free stuff: toothbrush, bread, mac and cheese, paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, tortilla chips, and a bunch of other stuff. There were people everywhere but a bunch of us went together and had a great time!

haha like the water bottle.......and the thermos........and the free food........ i love it 😍
The dinner mix-up made me sad though 🙁. I like 3+ meals/day paid for! lol. LOVE the water bottle. It's going to come everywhere with me until I get tired of telling people that I'm a vet student 😀.

Orientation was silly but rather informative and I met tons of awesome people! 😎
(didn't see orca & have no clue who sunnex is. No SDN love.)

No clue what they're going to do in the next 18+ hours of orientation though? It seems like they covered everything today .

EEEK! We start classes tomorrow. Planning on showing up suuuuuuuper early because there is stiff competition for seats in the lecture hall.

So Sunnex was in my orientation group and I don't think I really introduced myself. I was "shakin' bacon" LOL. Don't think I've met Orca, and wouldn't even know where to start with Snowy! And I haven't seen SOV, either. I feel like I'm at the fake Penn Vet orientation.

were you in a pack of girls walking down spruce street around 5:30pm after orientation. I figured one of you had to know me!

And I am definitely the only guy with 2 IGs in W. Philly.

If the schedule is similar.. day 3 is spent at NBC (New Bolton Center) mostly doing group game/activities. And day 2 is more learn the school etc...

Have you gotten the speech from Dr. Orsini about anatomy yet?
That's when it started to seem REAL to me.

He gave us a speech, but we were running short on time, so it was "Pick a good group, get a lab coat, get gloves, see you Monday morning."

I saw a woman walking two skeeeeeeny IG's during the Baltimore Ave. dollar stroll, and I considered asking if she was Mrs. SOV, but I thought it would be ultra creepy.

Oh! I forgot. Dr. Orsini also gave us homework. That b@stard! :meanie:

I may or may not have already read some of it...I was bored since I didn't have internet for a while...figured I might as well be productive. Only read some of the pages though. Haven't touched it since like Friday.

It didn't get real for me until they showed us the image of the class flag and then I was like 😱:scared:

And apparently people don't really think I look like my fb profile picture. I've been mixed up with another girl already who I'm actually friends with now.

Halfway through my first day. I got my seat but my friend got hers stolen. The person who had my locker before hasn't vacated it so I also have no locker.

Its not bad so far, but I now realize how easy it will be to get behind

You can do it Jam! If it helps, my locker wasn't vacated either the first few days. I talked to the dean about it and they literally had bolt cutters and took the lock off for me. And do you guys have assigned seats?

First day of class...wasn't awful!

Assigned seats? That still exists in professional school? 😀

Ooh no... No assigned seats. But I told the girls the seat was taken.

Was it an older white woman walking those dogs? If so, I have met the woman before. That is NOT MrsSOV. FYI: MrsSOV looks young (although she is only slightly younger than me) and is Asian.

Good thing you didn't creep out some poor woman.

I like sitting in the same seat or general area every day, it helps me with learning.

It becomes a habit for me, too, to sit in the same seat, but it doesn't bother me at all if it's taken as long as I can still see well from another one (I'm pretty much blind). But I meant actual assigned seats, as in, assigned by profs..

Survived my first day of vet school. Overall a good day 👍. Wish my seat were up a couple rows, but I have a tablet that I can bring the powerpoints up on, so I should be good, could have been worse.

I haven't heard of anyone having actual assigned seats from the profs...??
