Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In AACOMAS website, I have my MCAT test date listed for 8/2/2013. From what I've researched from this forum, there are some schools that will send me secondaries without the MCAT and there are some schools that will put me in a pending file until they receive the MCAT. I am assuming I will not have a chance with those schools who haven't sent me a secondary because early September, the day they get my score, is a tad late. If I submit a primary to the schools during the first week of September, who knows when I'll get those secondaries, I could get them in another 1-4 weeks and by that time I'm really behind everybody. I feel like I have a better chance if I submit my primary on Monday (6/3) to these 25 DO schools and get secondaries from 8-13 of them around mid July. At this point, I should only be about 1-1.5 months behind everybody which is much better than 3 months.

I'm applying for 25 DO schools and praying to the gods that half of them send me secondaries without the MCAT (taking it early August). I figure if I get a 24-28, I won't be too far behind everybody in the application process.

sGPA-3.73 cGPA- 3.55
400 clinical hours working with pimple doctor
20 hours shadowing pathologists

Good stats (Assuming a decent MCAT), especially since your ECs seem a little lacking...

Hehe, pimple doctor...

I would take out New Jeresey, Virginia, and both PCOM's since these schools are very regional biased. I would also add one or two newish schools just for safety net. LMU and ACOM are ones I'm considering adding to my school list.
I am going to add Marian to the list. I don't think I will regionally get excluded from PCOM and NJ. I was born in PA, raised in NY and I have a sister in PA and NYC as well as my entire extended family still in PA. I would consider this to be strong ties to the area, at least I hope so 😎

What are your guys experience between practice test scores and real scores? Also, am I real crazy for only studying for 3 weeks for the MCAT? My Chemistry is solid, all I'm weak in is physics really and have not been lower than an 8 in verbal.

I scored exactly my average on all AAMC FL's. Yes you are crazy, unless you can balance a long chemical reaction, find the limiting reagent, and calculate the volume of the gas emitted in less than 2 mins.

Ya I can. I got a 26 on one test then a 23 (yikes), but I won't be done with content review (all the ek stuff)until next week. I've got hardcore studying come up the next two weeks though. I am confident because a lot of the things I missed were because of content that I need to brush up on.

If I don't score a 28 on my last FL I think I'm gonna pospone. I'd be out money but that's not a concern for me.

Well the, good luck!

First time taking the test, got exactly the same score (and subscores) as I did on the last Princeton Review test I took before the real thing.

Second time, got a point higher on the PS than I'd been averaging while only doing the PS part of practice tests (other scores were unchanged from first test).

Personally I needed months of reviewing PS every other day to do well (10) on that section (my weakest section), but I hardly practiced bio concepts and was fine (then again, I'm a bio major)--same with verbal (but I read a ton).

So it really depends on how you work and and take tests.

Congrats on the huge score increase 🙂 I got a low 20's score as well and am retaking in July!

The day has arrived! Sending out good luck, happy thoughts and positive vibes to everyone applying. Let's make it a good cycle folks!

Feel free to add me to this list. My dream school is PCOM

Good luck to all!! It was nerve-wracking doing the final edit of my primary--so glad it's finally submitted!!

Ended up deciding on 4 schools (dropped PCOM at the last moment)--two in Florida (so nice of DO Florida schools to be OOS friendly...the MD ones sure aren't). =D

It's there already...

Also, might purge the list soon of people without any stats.Won't serve much purpose if people are listed without any stats on it.

You didn't have my MCAT listed, it was buried within all the pages of this thread. Just offering an update in case you wanted to replace the TBA 👍

Oh I should post my stats then so I can be added to the list of those applying this cycle.

s3.65, c3.73, MCAT 10/11/10 (PS/VR/BS)

Some solid stats there 👍

Some solid stats there 👍

Thank you. =) It took taking the MCAT twice and graduating my undergrad to get there, though, haha. Doing a "year off" and having the hardest time finding a research lab tech job right now...

Hello, I am apply this cycle too.
My stat: 3.76 / 3.76 / 35 (12B, 11V, 12P)
My ECs are very weak so I'm crossing my fingers.
Good luck to all of you!

Well I'm hoping for no gpa changes with AACOMAS like TMDSAS did to me :scared:

Meanwhile, my MCAT is 8PS, 9VR, 9BS

Where are all the June 1st 2013 applicants at? Definitely count me as one.
I'll update as much as possible, Stats, schools, Interview invites etc will be added once time passes by, just want to have the list ready.

Underdogs, Big dogs, little dogs, etc welcomed!

I'm sure it will be a successful cycle, which is why I have us as Class of 2018 😎

If there are any errors or you wish to be removed for whatever reason, please PM me. If you do not give me your stats before June 1st to add, your name WILL be removed.
I'm in.

3.1 sGPA, 3.37cGPA, 27S MCAT with a pending retake from May 18th this year.

Sorry if listed before, but whats your sci/cum GPA?

Some good stats there, why retake a 27?
I took my first MCAT without 2nd semester physics, 2nd semester O-Chem, and Genetics. After taking those classes felt like I could do much better. So now I'm hoping for the best, especially without having to use any brainpower on the writing section this time.

Had a memorable moment today. My patient died while I was there. It was the first time I saw the process of death right before my eyes.

Preverification 3.50c 3.08s nonscience major

Also, I did not get to submit yet I had to rearrange to see my tutor for tomorrow.

Hopefully submitting later tonight or tomorrow. Add my stats to the list

3.5/3.3/ TBA (August 22)

Finally submitted my application. Thought this day would never come. But I owe this first to God for giving me the determination, and then to SDN for providing me guidance through the process and to my family for their prayers and support.

Submitted

And wow, I did not even think about Ramadan, turns out my MCAT was going to be right at the start, rescheduled to August

Add me please? 3.40sGPA, 3.44cGPA, 33 mcat

Can't wait until secondaries and interviews start piling in 😀 (the thread I mean, not my lap)

Let's hope I'm in with most of you on the acceptance list at the end of it all :luck:

sGPA 3.20, cGPA 3.30, MCAT TBA from May 18th (feels like a 30+ from my experience with practice tests, so fingers crossed).

Dream school is U of M (current undergrad here), top choice otherwise is MSUCOM, I'm a Michigan resident so that should help.

Wow.. Am I the only one kind of surprised that the peeps with less-than-average GPAs for DO schools are doing pretty kickass on the MCAT? Mind is officially BLOWN. 👍

Yeah, depending where you go, grades can be quite misleading. At my school a science major getting a 3.3 is considered very good and well above average, but at the university 5 miles down the road you would be the bottom of the class with anything less than a 3.5. I just hope adcoms take that into consideration, and my MCAT should help show it.

3.15 cGPA

3.35 sGPA

mcat TBD in August...

Happy to join this thread and I hope everyone here is successful this cycle...

Happy I'm not the only one waiting around to still take the MCAT and get a score!! How are you studying? I'm so burnt out on it!!

Finally submitted. To bad I am more stressed now then before I submitted my app. Going to be a long cycle.

Well, that's because our GPA limits our options for allopathic schools so we like to hang out here. I'm only applying to 4 allo schools.

Ohh admit it, Pre-Osteo crowd is a lot better than the Pre-Allo crowd.

A lot less neurotic for sure, haha.

I'm right on the border for MD with my 31 MCAT (and don't have a preference for MD or DO), so I'm applying to both sets of schools and will see where I like it best/where I get in. =)

In particular, pre-osteo doesn't have nearly as many college freshmen making "I GOT A C+ IN CALC I!! IS MY DREAM OF BEING A DOCTOR OVER?!:🙁🙁🙁:scared::scared::scared:👎 👎 👎" threads
