Class of 2020 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was in a similar position. It took about a day for my app to go from "awaiting materials" to "verifying", but everything was fine. As long as that class is marked as in progress/a future term, you should be fine.

Thanks. 🙂

I just took a look out of habit/neurotic impulse, and it's already done. Officially in "verifying." Phew!

I just emailed VMCAS with the corrections required for my PTE. Less than 10 moderate mistakes (missing pieces of course numbers, wrong course numbers, weird subjects, etc.). There's a lot of inconsistency with the subject category but a lot of it I'm going to let slide because it's technically not incorrect.

So I was wondering, mostly because I couldn't find one, is there an actual subject list for this cycle?

From the looks of it, there are way more potential course subjects than in previous years. While that increases how specific you can get, it obviously makes consistency a problem for a third party trying to decipher what the hell a course was from the abbreviated course title on your transcript.

My favorite mistakes:

AGRCOMM 390 Agricultural Comm. -> VMCAS called it "Agriculture." While I understand the confusion, I would find it amusing if a communications course gets factored into my science GPA. Plus, it's one of the capstone courses for OSU and probably should be correctly labeled.

HCS 694 Group Studies -> Study abroad credits are admittedly confusing and really generic sounding on OSU's transcripts. VMCAS called it "Other Health Science." Well, HCS stands for Horticulture and Crop Sciences so science, yes. Health science, no.

...There's a lot of inconsistency with the subject category but a lot of it I'm going to let slide because it's technically not incorrect.

I gave VMCAS a call as well, because a lot of my courses seemed mislabeled. The rep told me not to worry about it, and that it'd be fine. I think it will be, but I'll most def run him over if something happens.

hello, i am new here! I have submitted but I am just wondering why is the vmcas application open still if all the school say September 15th at midnight ?

Dealing with midnight due times is confusing. It's due at 11:59:59 Eastern time on 9/15/15. So it is due 1 second before the next midnight we hit.

Also, the fact that some of you future vet students are still asking about listing experiences and entering coursework is stressin me out! :nailbiting:

Thanks for the quick response !
Oh but I guess some mean sept 15 12 am because Cornell is no longer allowing apps

Ah, yeah. Most of the schools I know of require a year-long sequence.

On that note, though, is there a possibility that you can take it in the spring? You don't necessarily have to be done with every single pre-req now, as long as you complete them either next spring or before matriculation (when they want it by depends on the school).
I'm actually taking one pre-req this semester, just basic Biology I (as a replacement for my 5-year-old credit, a horrible performance in my very first semester of college). For now I think 4 schools is sufficient (applying is so expensive!), but there were a couple other schools I'd planned on applying to like OSU that I later found I couldn't due to missing a physics II and/or OChem II credit. I don't know if I'll be taking them immediately in the spring since I want to know how this application cycle goes first, and I'm still trying to find a job to add more experiences (have lots of small/large/exotic, but in dire need of clinical). Probably in the summer session the way I took Physics I, though I'm also looking into online since it may be cheaper...

I am so glad all my transcripts were accepted and verified back in June/July...If only I'd done the same with my PS. 22 hrs left, time to pull an all-nighter :writer: I'm eager to see how my calculated GPAs will show up.

Just freaked out a bit. Final edit, making sure my experiences are all spell checked and the whole app froze. I tried to log out and back in and got "error 404: file not found."
I totally froze and came here in case someone could tell me what the hell was going on!

But it works again. All better right?

By the way, what the heck is the difference between an award and an honor?

^ my guess is, an award would be--well, a specific award granted to you, while an honor would be something like being accepted into an honors society, Dean's List or given a title of merit! (not that it matters for where they all go on the app)

trucking by decently on my PS...I think I have a nice grabber intro and framework laid out, the hard part for me is putting everything into words. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to the quality of my work (no stranger to writing great papers in the wee hours), but wish I'd joined this forum earlier so I could've gotten outside suggestions and critique!
my procrastinatin' self is so ready to turn this all in.

Why is it that some vets have to wait until the last minute to submit an eval? I have one I'm waiting on and, since I only requested 3, I'm counting on this one to get in today. I've heard that today there could be delays in submitting the applications, which, I've already done. However, can evaluators experience trouble submitting due to the high volume of submissions?

I wouldn't rule it out. I'd imagine that if VMCAS were to crash today, they couldn't submit

I had some bills come out that I didn't plan on yesterday and it looks like I have to choose: Wisconsin or Michigan? Both are OOS. I want my best chance of success and I'm dealing with low undergrad GPA but thousands upon thousands of hours of experience and near perfect grades in my post bacc and MS. I wanna work dairy cows and/or mixed animal. What do you guys feel in your guts. I just wanna hit the button. It just sucks being $50 shy of all 3 apps. (Already submitted my IS to CSU)

I know nothing about Wisconsin but Michigan uses a scholastic index that will take your cumulative GPA, if you have bachelor's or not, and your GRE and generate a number that gauges your potential to get an interview. The equation is in their website so you can calculate it and see your chances!

What a stupid, time consuming, money costing, stress causing, waste of bandwidth clusterf**k this year's VMCAS has been. I hope @VMCASSTAFF has wandered past here at some point.

I'm sorry that y'all have had to deal with all this stuff.

I didn't do PTE, but I had sooooo many technical issues. Parts of my supplemental would just disappear and reappear randomly and play tricks on my mind. It froze and froze and froze. It told me my payment declined when I tried to submit when it didn't so I tried to pay twice. Like really?

It's not your cumulative GPA.
It asks for your science and your last 3 semester... and Michigan takes a minimum of 36 credits for undergraduate glass or 18 for graduate (I think) rather than the last 45 I see people discuss. Just important stuff to know if you're going to test the calculator. But yes, you can see your chances roughly by using their calculator.

I know zip about Wisconsin so I can't really help you compare, but I wish you luck in this tough decision.

:smack: Sorry for the misinformation

Sounds like it's actually another VMCAS error. If you're applying there, call the school/VMCAS

You are correct ! I rechecked this morning and Cornell allowed me to submit thank you so much !

My MS GPA 30 credits is 3.68. The year of 32 credits post bacc before that was 3.8.
Undergrad was an abysmal 2.7 with over 300 credits (life sucked during undergrad. I just survived)

Anyway I did the whole equation thing and I'm sitting at 830. Just trying to figure out the better bet. Both will let me retake enough courses that if they don't like something, I have time... I'm such a waffler when stressed :wacky:

Of course I start thinking about applying to Mizzou and Iowa again less than 12 hours before apps are due :smack:

I'm not going to because last minute freaks me out, but good job self🤣

I'm in the same boat! I called the clinic this morning and the receptionist said she would remind him, but I know he most likely won't have a chance to do it until after 5:30 today. :nailbiting:

Thankfully, mine got submitted a few hours ago. Last night, my roommate, another friend, and myself all had one evaluation we were waiting on. It was ridiculous.

I'm worried that some of my schools haven't received my GRE scores. I sent them all in 8/31, and I have yet to receive confirmation from them, aside from LMU and Minnesota. I spoke to the ETS representative and he said electronic deliveries only take 1 business day or so. Anyone else facing the same issue?

I didn't receive confirmation from any schools. I had to call them.

I can't wait until you guys are first years because it means I'll be a second year and done with anatomy lab 😛

Really, I just wish it was easier to study it from my bed.

Just spoke to each of the schools I'm applying to, and they indeed received my scores phew! The only school that couldn't confirm was UC Davis, and the rep informed me that they'll send out an email regarding the status of my materials.

Quote of the day while on the phone with them earlier: "You'll just have to trust us...."

To VMCAS: "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" :naughty:

Trust us is the scariest thing they have ever said to me. But I guess I trust them enough to have just submitted for 8 programs. lol. Only thing missing is that transcript. Well, if they say, "We don't have it. Too bad," I'm going to tell them, "Think again! Y'ALL SIGNED FOR IT, SO VERIFY ME NOW OR GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY!!!"

Yeah, I just got off the phone with them. They say they haven't received 2 of my 4 transcripts. They lady says they might have been delivered but there is no way to know until they put them in the computer system and she wishes me luck.
I had to order the damn things 3 times before they sent. I paid extra for rush processing and shipping the 3rd time. They better freaking be there!

Ha! If I wasn't stuck at work until two hours before the deadline, I probably would have.
Awww. That's too bad.

I actually added Midwestern to my VMCAS just tonight. Hooray for last-minute impulses! 😛

That's crazy! I'm really, really hoping that VMCAS manages to insert your transcripts tonight... I would be furious if they somehow managed to lose one of my transcripts, causing the application to be considered "late" and have hundreds of dollars go down the drain like that. Seriously. For everyone dealing with VMCAS tonight over these issues, PTE-related or otherwise, I am crossing all my appendages for you that things work out okay. :xf:

@VMCASSTAFF, if by some random chance you log into SDN and manage to see this... you need to fix things for next cycle. Transcripts shouldn't be "unaccounted for" when you claim that you've signed for them. And don't even get me started on PTE. Please, please actually work to improve your product. It isn't fair to the applicants to charge $195+ for such a broken application service.

I feel like the moral of the VMCAS 2015 story is to have all transcripts be signed for, then keep that info on file FOREVER.

My last evaluator (of 3, so I NEED this one) still hasn't submitted and I'm kind of freaking out. :scared: :barf:

Right now I really wish the deadline was still at noon eastern time. I have his cell number, but don't feel comfortable calling this late. I'm hoping what happened is like a couple other people mentioned, he thought he submitted but it didn't actually go through for some reason. If that's the case, hopefully my schools will be willing to work with me.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I really hope you're able to straighten this out and the schools will work with you. Considering how messed up VMCAS has been this cycle, coupled with the amazing technological abilities of some older folk 🙂, maybe something did get messed up.

The deadline is tonight though, which isn't convenient.

Idk...it is late, but I'd call. I'd feel extremely awkward myself, but you can't know for sure unless you call. Plus, if you already paid....

If you don't feel comfortable calling, text them?

I just texted him. It felt weird and unprofessional, but I would have felt really bad if I woke him up calling! Hopefully I sounded relatively polite and not too annoyed/panicked, and hopefully he sees it and is able to resubmit if that was the issue. It isn't like him to put it off to this extent, which is why I wonder if it's some kind of glitch.

Oh gosh 🙁 That is ridiculously stressful. Any luck?

No response, status on VMCAS still just says "requested." It looks like I might have a series of phone calls to make in the morning. :/ I'm not sure which would be more frustrating, if he somehow forgot and just didn't do it, or if it's a VMCAS glitch.

Oh, no. 🙁 That is such a bummer, and I can only imagine how stressed out you must be. Either way, that definitely sucks... hopefully something can get worked out for you tomorrow with VMCAS if it really is a glitch.

I am so sorry you're having to deal with this. *hugs*

Aw man. 🙁 Rooting for you.

I know the transcript verification is going to be incredibly slow over the next few weeks. However, I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this scenario:

One college mailed my transcripts last Wednesday (9/9) at 10:31AM CST to VMCAS. I had ordered it August 30th and the college didn't process and mail it out for 10 days. According to USPS, it SHOULD have arrived no later than today (9/15). Was being mailed from New Orleans. They have all their FAQ's saying that if it arrives after the 15th it's considered late, but I clearly wasn't the one holding up the transcripts. Everyone I've spoken with says not to worry, but it's hard not to when you've just dropped all this money.

Obviously, I should have ordered them earlier. To be fair, I was completely unaware of the moved-up VMCAS deadline until August 26th (was out of town also). What's the likelihood of them tossing my entire application because of something that essentially was out of my control? I checked back through my emails and I didn't receive any about the moved deadline this year. Definitely scrambled this cycle when I've always been on top of it.

Hopefully it works out for you.

Waiting for recommendations to roll in has been the worst part of every previous application cycle for me (the past three anyway, PTE takes the trophy this year). There has always been at least one person who waits until an hour or two before the deadline to submit, regardless of how much advance notice they have to complete it, or how frequently reminders are sent. I understand procrastination, but, damn, it's just plain rude to wait til the last minute.
