Colorado State c/o 2023 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I second what everyone else has been saying, Loveland is probably the furthest away you could comfortably commute. Fort Collins has undergone major expansion in the past several years and it'll often take 20-30 min just to get from one side of town to the other. Just my two cents 🙂

As far as I can tell, the public transport only goes within Fort Collins and parts of Loveland, although I believe there's a bus system that goes from the transit center + park and ride to Denver...but that'd cost major $$$ to take every day: Bustang Tickets | Denver, Colorado Springs, Vail Bus Tickets | Bustang

Thank you all so much for your responses! I definitely have to think a little more about the being 20 minutes from campus thing, but it’s comforting to hear that people have made it work by crashing with a friend for a night or two!

I could go to MN or Penn and be in a city that my SO could work in, but my heart is really here. And he likes the idea of CO too! He works in finance though and some of the jobs he was looking at might be on New York time, so then he might be able to avoid rush hour if we works kinda weird hours for CO I think.

Does anyone know how far the bus system extends? Is it just in Fort Collins, or does it extend into the surrounding area at all? I tried to find a train or commuter rail or something but there’s doesn’t seem to be a ton of public transport...
The buses go all over. Obviously very extensive within Fort Collins (and actually I exclusively used buses to get around from undergrad all the way up to last semester - only switched to a car this semester because my roommates offered to split a parking pass with me and I had a lot of breaks that were slightly too short to get errands and such done by bus), but they go to other cities regularly.

The FLEX route goes to Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Longmont, and Boulder. Somebody also mentioned the Bustang which goes to Denver.

Don't get me wrong, these routes add significant time onto any commute, but are doable (I know at least one classmate who took the FLEX from Longmont every day and used the bus time to study on yeh way home).

Transfort & the MAX lines (both serve Fort Collins) are all free to CSU students. I think the FLEX is free to us as well (based on the times I accidentally rode it across town lol). I don't know about the Bustang, but would guess you'd have to pay for those tickets since that service is run by CDOT and travels to most of the state.

Just got off the wait-list for the DVM/MBA program. I'd appreciate any and all insight to this program! Likewise- I'll be declining my OOS seat in the regular admissions pool

From what I understand about the program, you do one year as a full time OOS-tuition-paying MBA student then you start your first year of veterinary school afterwards (meaning you would actually be C/O 2024). Then you finish you MBA classes during the 2nd year of your five years in the program.

I've seen somewhere that you can get IS tuition after your first MBA year by obtaining Colorado domicile, which I see as a bonus.

Finally get to announce that I decided to accept my spot at CSU! Dr. Delcambre sent me an email about two weeks ago saying that I was being offered a fat scholarship if I decided to accept my position so I guess I'll be getting that for the first year, which is exciting!

Also I took a million years to decide because 1. I'm a procrastinator and 2. I was afraid but here we are!

If anyone is looking for summer housing in Fort Collins, let me know! We have a nice house with yard, three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Two dogs and one cat. One of my roommates (Class of 2022) will be away for the summer and is looking for someone to sublet her room (roughly mid-May to mid-Aug, but dates negotiable). My other roommate is also Class of 2022, and I will be starting my first year this fall. Message me if you want to learn more!

Congratulations! I was just at a presentation by Dr. Delcambre this weekend (Ill be applying this year) and she said specifically that there are no scholarships for first years. Apparently this is untrue, can you share what you know danseth🙂

I'm pretty sure that the scholarship I was offered is the same as what @RedLauren was offered from what she has described as well.

I didn't apply for it, I was sent the email regarding the scholarship on March 22nd and I got my acceptance on January 30th.

In Dr. Delcambre's words in the scholarship letter and the email "It is very rare that we have scholarships for first year students entering the program, so please know how special this is!" and "You are one of select few to receive this scholarship opportunity."

From my perspective, the last statement means that they choose certain candidates based on something from their application that stood out. I have an inkling of where it came from on my part because I personally don't feel like the most exceptional candidate (imposter syndrome speaking); this inkling is not something that the majority of people would have access to and it all comes down to your connections. I had a high profile person write me a letter of recommendation/endorsement (whatever you want to call it, it's wasn't an official LOR) that he gave to the CSU office of admissions without my knowledge or asking (until after he did it).

I think they tell people that there aren't scholarships for first years because they don't want you getting your hopes up for one. As RedLauren has expressed countless times in this thread, this scholarship is extremely rare and mustn't be expected. I certainly didn't expect it.

Also, thank you!

Had to decline my spot at CSU because a city school just works better for my SO and I and Penn offered me a scholarship, but congrats to all of you going to CSU and maybe our paths will cross some other time!

Ahhhh congrats!!!!

Has anyone started to fill out the New Student Survey for the class of 2023? I all of a sudden feel really boring when trying to talk about unique/special events and achievements lol. What kinds of things is everyone else putting?

There's a new student survey? Where do we access such a thing and when did you get notified of it?

It’s on the “New DVM Student” page, it’s just under all of the things we need to do before the program starts in the fall! I think this specific form is due sometime next month!

Well apparently I didn't look deep enough on the page haha! I'm working on filling it out now, too. I think I'm in the same boat as you, I don't know what to say. I'm also really bad about bragging about myself because I don't want to seem conceited or like I'm dwelling on my past too much.
