Cornell c/o 2018 Applicants!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is the dean's certification form required...?

I think it's required if you're offered a slot and decide to matriculate, in which case it's due by March 15th, but like a few others said, it's recommended to send it in earlier. Not the end of the world if you haven't sent it yet, but I would say get around to it soon 🙂

It's definitely required if you're accepted and decide to come. I didn't send mine in last year until the spring semester so unless things have changed, it should not enter into your admissions decision.

If you guys have any questions for a current first year, let me know!

Came here to say what Felinelvr covered. It's not on the admissions formula but you can always email admissions and see if they've changed things around since I've applied.

I see on the application summary that it doesn't say that the Dean's Letter is due until March 15th. Also, has anyone heard anything back?

They traditionally don't contact accepted students until January 2nd via phone :xf:

Can I get a general opinion from you guys? I have a 168 V and a 158 Q GRE score. Do you think my Q score (a 72%) will prevent me from being considered? Obviously I know other factors are considered too, but I know GRE is super important for an application here and can't find stats anywhere.

I have a 157 in both V&Q. I believe from what I read that anything around 70% or higher is competitive.

I scored similarly last year, Mrow123, and although I was rejected, I was told during my file review that my GRE scores were definitely not the reason. Jenn Mailey specifically told me that if I had time/money/wanted to, I could try to improve my quant score and it couldn't hurt, but that it wasn't at all critical. Hope that helps!

A 72nd percentile Quant score is definitely competitive, especially with that 98th percentile verbal score 🙂 Obviously GRE is only part of the application but Cornell does count it for 25%.

Thanks guys! You all are super helpful 🙂

There are some stats up to the c/o 2016 on the second to last page of this document! The GRE scores need to be converted from the old system.

Hope this is helpful. 🙂

I applied last year and didn't get in. I received an email around Jan 2nd. My friend who was accepted got a phone call and email the same day.

Thank you! This gives us a date to either look forward to or dread. Did they offer advice on why you did not get in and how to improve? Just asking because I may be in the same situation.

I emailed Jennifer and called her office the same day to set up an appointment to go over my application. I had my app printed out and went over every little detail I could with her (personally I didn't think she was very helpful on the feedback. I need someone to tell me what I didn't do well at, she just focused on what I did that was already good. Ford Barnet at Tufts was incredible and extremely helpful reviewing my app. So if you applied there, definitely use him as a resource if you do not get accepted this year.)

15 days until phones start ringing! (Notice I didn't say until MY phones start ringing, since I'm pretty sure I'll be sitting next a silent phone that day...) Good luck to everyone 🙂
I know its hard, and we don't wanna jinx ourselves, but don't be so gloomy, Smudgen! I know that the chances of me getting a call are slim, but crazier things have been known to happen...Hey, you never know! 😉

Eta: You applied for a reason. You had hope at one point. Chin up 🙂

Ps: You know how some advent calendars contain chocolate? Well, I want a vet school decision countdown calendar like that! At least that may make the "icky" stuff and stress worth it 😛

Hm. Don't they call regardless of whether or not you get accepted? Or are rejections sent through email? :\

I'm pretty sure only acceptances get phone calls, and rejections and wait lists get emails.

Ah I see. Darn... that means I'll end up staring at my phone all day. I hope I'm not like in the bathroom when (IF) they call.

And do they do calls and emails all in one day?

Yep, phone calls on the 2nd, emails with rejections on the 3rd. Like Chitty said, I think waitlist emails are scattered.

Does anyone know if we do get an acceptance (and that's a big if) do we just acknowledge that we got it? Or do we need to have any other information on hand?
I've been worrying so much about trying to get in in the first place that I never even thought of what happens if I do!
Good luck to everyone applying!

They call you (see above posts) so the conversation should be enough. Is that what you meant?

Oh whoops! I didn't read the above posts. I guess they'd tell you what to do in the phone call if you are accepted. Thanks! As you can see I'm new 😀

If you miss the call for some reason, I'm assuming you just get an email the same day yeah? Less fun but still an acceptance!

Last year some SDNers missed their calls and were called back later in the day. How stressful would that be? Haha My phone and I will be BFFs on the 2nd. Just in case 😛

Lol. What happens if you miss both phone calls?

Last year I only got a rejection email. My friend, who was accepted, got a call and an email. We both heard on the same day. I honestly can't remember the exact date for the life of me, but the 2nd or 3rd does sound correct.

She also missed the first call and they called her again later.

Hmm.. just realised I'll have a different number those couple of days since I'll be visiting a different country. Where do we go to update our contact info? Can't remember.. Not that I really think I'll get in, but just in case (knock on wood!) 😛

They have, most likely, already decided everyone's fates and just have us hanging out in one of three piles. The suspense is killing me! My getting in would be a miracle, but I. Just. Wanna. Know. Already.

They are finalizing decisions between now and the New Year if memory serves. Hang in there and focus on something else until you hear (it's out of your control anyhow).

I'm going to be visiting my SO when the calls go out. He has been warned that I'll be clutching my phone in bed, not wanting to do anything until something happens!

:barf::barf:Me next Thursday, waiting for a call ... which will probably be the Red Cross calling to ask me to do something that means something this holiday season. UGH.

So 2 years ago they spread the phone calls out over the 2nd-4th of January. Last year all the calls seem to have gone out on the 2nd.

I don't spend too much time on SDN or anything.

:whistle::help:

@Smudgen did you go to Cornell undergrad? So did I 🙂 Sorry, I bet I sound uber creepy. I was stalking your post on the "What are my chances" thread, hehe.

Yes, I did! :hello: Isn't it funny to remember that everyone on SDN is a real person who exists outside of the interwebs?

Sweet, I'm class of 2012 😀 A couple weeks ago I was at the Davis interview and met another Cornellian, currently a senior.
