All decisions are due by midnight. I’m an IS alternate keeping my fingers crossed! I know they’ve already called a couple people off the OOS waitlist.

Declined by IS spot this morning officially. Good luck to those of you on the waitlist!

Declined my OOS spot...
This one hurts a lot! Cornell was perfect for me, but it’s hard to pass on the tuition cost at my instate school for it :/

Ok now that the newness is wearing off, I realized I should start planning! Anyone have recommendations for how to go about looking for housing? I know some schools have a Facebook group where they can coordinate roommates and stuff.

There’s a Cornell Class of 2024 Facebook page filled with housing options!

OOS waitlist accepted!!!! I was wondering, how much hands-on time do first years gets with live animals? I know they get to do a lot with dogs, but what about large animals like cows, goats, etc.?

Hi! Congrats! Current first year here! We get a ton actually. You may know that Cornell does a block-like class set up with these courses called foundation courses. The first set of foundation courses you take include block 7a which is all about how to perform a PE on small animal, horses, and cows. The animals are always available for practicing outside of class as well with prior set up for the horses/cows oftentimes. We learn about pigs, sheep, goats, and such but we don't practice on them.

Thank you!!! Will you get to practice on pigs, small ruminants, etc. in later years, or only if you choose to track production animal?

It is my understanding that we used to but the farm we would go to tightened up health security measures. There are anatomy courses for ruminants and comparative for your first year. We don't "technically" track, we just take electives ("distributions") that interest us which allow a freeform and specific curriculum to match our ambitions. That being said, I'm SA prefered with some equine interest so I keep my head out of production animal circles. I would assume that between our clubs and distributions offered that you'd be able to find experience. Especially if you apply for hospital jobs or you could probably ask to do a mini externship with ambulatory.

Maybe someone already answered you but I'll add that the housing search really depends on what you need. I have a fiance and two dogs so we rent a house (found on Craiglist and zillow-rent) so feel free to look there for some community-based housing. And don't underestimate your commute, I thought for cheaper I could live 25 minutes away (I commuted in undergrad) but we just moved so that I can be 5 minutes away now because I really think it'll help between club opportunities and hospital jobs.

Does anyone know if those on the waitlist are going to get an email when the class is full?

The GREs for Vet school were canceled for the 2020 cycle applicants aka me...don't really know how to feel about this,,, lmao
