CSU c/o 2020 applicants, y'all ready for this?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Everyone who applied for the UAF/CSU program, check your portal! Don't know if all combined program decisions have been posted, but mine is updated. I got denied for a nonsponsored UAF/CSU position, but that's okay, now it's on to regular admissions :xf:

Sorry Dev! Hopefully better news comes later in the month!

I was just told that the committee was sitting for some of the combined programs on Monday and that we should expect to hear some answers next week. This is thru another DVM/PhD applicant... so I would assume that's what she's referencing

Checked my page. I applied for 2 combined programs:

MSAnsci: deny
PhD: still pending

Good luck on the PhD program! (and if not there, then in regular admissions, of course!)

maybe if i refresh the page a million times ill magically come off the alternate list

I'd still stick to (AKA hope/wish/dream for) the dates they put. 🙂

I'm curious about the wording. I applied as a WICHE applicant, but from my understanding, just because you apply WICHE doesn't mean you'll get WICHE. Also, I thought WICHE applicants to CSU were also thrown into the regular non-sponsored pool as well.

My question is, will everyone be notified about acceptances in late December, and then WICHE applicants will be notified again if they're chosen as WICHE in late January? Or if you selected WICHE, you have to wait until late January for first notification?

It should be that WICHE funding goes out in January. There is no quota for WICHE applicants, and they are in the same pool as regular OOS. Yes, if you apply as a WICHE applicant, it doesn't guarantee funding, it depends on how much funding your own resident state has reserved for WICHE applicants.

So that means we'll get acceptances in December than?

Are those that have been rejected or are on the alternate list for the combined programs still considered for admission for the regular DVM program?

Has anyone heard for the DVM/PhD program?
See above. It seems to be ringing true.

I got denied for a nonsponsored UAF/ CSU position. But there was less than a 5% chance of admission on that one so no sweat off my back. Now for the regular pool... Let the stress dreams begin. 😕

Hey all. Probably a dumb question but does anyone know odds of being pulled off the alternate list? I'm just thinking in terms of planning. I know in my current college town, apartments are basically sold out come February so if I won't have a definitive answer until April I am semi concerned about living situations. 😵

However, they do reserve a certain amount of OOS spots specifically for WICHE students. 🙂 So you're only competing against regular OOS if you don't get WICHE funding - otherwise, you're competing against other WICHE students.

Which, at least back in my day (2006-8), gave you better odds than the regular OOS pool.

I got to school at CSU currently, so I can help you out! So, many of the lower cost apartments aimed at students are full by February or so, on a technical/superficial basis. But, there are so many options. It's quite easy to find a place to live - either taking over someone's lease, or by subletting, or by people looking for a third person to rent with! Lots of students study abroad, have plans change, etc. Decent apartments (price wise): Ram's Village (I've lived there), The Lofts (live here... very thin walls), Ram's Pointe.

I didn't find my current place (subletting) until a month or two before summer break, and there are always places popping up right until school starts, and even after school starts (ala "hey I need to move out, room available now!")!

Here is a great CSU website that I (and many people) use often: http://www.rentalsearch.colostate.edu
You need to be a CSU student to use it (not sure at what point you can use it? might be after you apply, might be after you are accepted), and you can post yourself as a person in need of a room, and peruse the available rooms. If you can't access it, try signing up as a landlord. ;P Or, I can search on there for you! I don't mind helping out. EDIT: prospective students should have access. If you don't, contact the number provided on the log-in screen 🙂

It's a lot tougher with kids, but I would say then prime season is late spring.

I am also going to the San Fran marine mammalogy conference! Should be a fun distraction!

That's so cool! Maybe I'll see you there 🙂

I know it'll be chilly in San Fran. I'm going to Pasadena first to visit my aunt though and I've heard it's still highs of 70 or so during the day when it's sunny. Sooo that's definitely warmer than Maine right now haha

just casually stalking last years CSU page trying to gage decision release days. Apparently, phone calls were made to some accepted students? Wonder if this is the same deal this year?

I just got a phone call today from CSU, so it seems like the phone calls might still be a thing this year. I'm not sure if they'll only call admitted dual degree people or if they'll also call each admitted applicant once regular admissions decisions are out, though.

Accepted UAF/CSU DVM program. OOS. I might have to get my tailwheel endorsement for my pilot license sooner than I thought...

Congrats man! How long you been flying? I was accepted into the AbleFlight program through Purdue Aviation and will be getting mine next May. Honestly never thought I'd be able to get my license but there's some amazing adaptations being done out there to fly with hand controls. Can't wait.

I saw this when I got to work today and felt a little panic. I think I lost my phone last night. It's either left in the storage unit, fallen into a box, or I left it on my bumper and it's crushed on the road somewhere.
Hope I find it in time to get a wonderful phone call from CSU!:xf:

Anyone heard back about the masters of public health/ DVM program?

OOS here. Congrats to everyone who have received acceptances

quick question for you guys, did you receive an email about the change of status? or should I be desperately refreshing my portal nonstop for that?

I didn't get an email, but I'm an alternate so I'm not sure if that plays a role? Only reason I knew to check was because of this thread lol

I can't remember how being an alternate works for combined programs... It's all or nothing, right? If you're waitlisted for combined, you can't be accepted into the regular pool?

It's the exact opposite actually. If you applied to a dual degree program and were denied or placed as an alternate, your application is then forwarded for review for regular admission. But decisions from the dual programs do not affect the outcome in the regular applicant pool.
