Dartmouth?

Hey Kanu9--

I'm a non-trad who was complete in late September and just got my Dartmouth interview invite 3 weeks ago.

Don't give up hope yet! 🙂

Thanks. I have interviewed at UNMC in Nov. and I have a UMass interview coming up in March. I have applied to RFU, Loyola, NYMC, Temple,Drexel,Tufts and Jeff. Lets hope for some more. My Grad study becomes important because my undergrad was from India and the adcoms are looking at my grad GPA as their reference point for GPA.
I don't want to be too discouraging, but with an application later in the season and your MCAT score, I wouldn't put much stock in interviewing at Dartmouth (especially if you haven't heard anything by now). The effect of advanced degrees on the admissions process as been discussed endlessly here, so I won't touch on it. Where else did you apply? Have you had any other interviews?

Thanks,
Did you get an email or a letter for the invite. Do you mind telling me your stats otr your MDapp #.

I completed back in Dec. No interview invites yet but I have gotten 2-3 promo brochures from them...anyone else receive them? (seems like a lot of $$ being used on snail mail).

What?? I only got one!

I think Dartmouth does all of its invites via snail mail. (at least mine was).

my stats were pretty average--so I think they look at the whole package.

I got my invite via snail mail. Dartmouth is all about the old school style, e.g. paper app and snail mail invite. I think I read somewhere else that acceptances were sent through the post too.

As frustrating as it is to wait for the postal service, there's a certain charm to getting a letter about med school...

a friend of mine got a waitlist letter yesterday..he interviewed in september...maybe more letters are on their way now...

Yeah, I interviewed in September and just got the waitlist letter yesterday🙁

Keep the faith, man. I bet their waitlist is pretty active, because they're so strict about keeping their class size small.

I'm wondering the same because I interviewed in October. I'd like some closure!

interviewed in october, haven't heard anything

I think they mentioned that for a class of about 70, they write 250+ acceptance letters, so there's always a good change. Good luck!

Chalking up another waitlist. Pretty disappointed. But hopefully there's some movement later on. Seems like this process never ends.

I interviewed in November, and my letter is dated Jan. 30.

does anyone know if dartmouth rejects post-interview? or is it only acceptance or waitlist?

Dartmouth is irritating. I interviewed there in October and haven't heard a peep. I live less than an hour away from Hanover too. Bums.

Dartmouth definitely rejects post-interview - according to SDN and mdapplicants.

I read some where that they have a pile of files with designated "batting averages". The applicants with the highest and lowest "batting averages" are notified faster of their acceptances and rejections, respectively. The files that are in the middle of the pile are more in the "gray" area and take longer to gauge. These people are notified of their fate (i.e. acceptance, waitlist, or rejection) later on in the cycle. So, it's all kind of unpredictable as to when we will hear back. It could be tomorrow or one month from now.

Interesting stuff. I'll be interviewing soon there, despite it being what I definitely considered a "reach" school for me. Fortunately I'm holding an acceptance already, so the stress level is near zero! Looking forward to seeing the campus and meeting the folks. Sounds like a fascinating place.

I am seriously confused about what the waitlist means. They are still interviewing people (until April, supposedly)...so why have they already drawn up a waitlist? The only thing I can think of is that the waitlist people must not be as strong of candidates as they people they are expecting to interview? That can't be good? Anyone know?😕

Waitlist people are people whose admissions scores (as determined by the committee AFTER you interview) are below the threshold for outright admission that the committee believes they'll get to before May 15. Many people in my class, however, got off the waitlist once May 15th came around, so you still have a shot at getting in.

Do you know how big the waitlist pool usually is? I guess I am confused why it took admissions 3 or 4 months to decide that we weren't going to be close enough to the May 15 threshold. Does that mean the the waitlist pool is somewhat small and that it might have initially seemed like we were competitive enough to at least come close to a May 15 threshold? Hmm. . . I don't know if I said that very clearly. I guess I'm just wondering if you know the size of the waitlist pool. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know how big the waitlist pool is. Like I said, though, many of my classmates got in off the waitlist, so you still have a decent shot of getting in. The fact that you took so long to get on the waitlist could imply your score was high enough to be ambiguous until now, but I'm sorry, I can't be sure. Also, from what I understand getting in off the waitlist is done on a case-by-case basis (go over everyone in the waitlist pool again when a spot opens up), not necessarily based on score.

Hey guys, I received an offer dated Feb 1st. I interviewed in mid-Jan so it was a two week turn-around which seems INSANELY fast.

That's REALLY fast! Congrats! You must have had a really high 'batting average' (or whatever they call it) so they accepted you right away!

Congratulations! I interviewed on Jan 10 and I also got an acceptance letter today. 👍

Anyone know when Dartmouth finishes inviting ppl for interviews? I know they interview through April. Just wondering what the deal was since I was complete pretty late. How long did it take after being complete to get an invite? Thanks

I'm told that this year they'll be done in late March. Last year, they interviewed until the first week of April, but that was unusual.

CONGRATS to everyone that just got accepted recently...and for those that didn't/won't have the ego boosting 2 wk turnover, its OK, once you have an acceptance-even if it' s a day before classes start-nobody cares.

I interviewed in mid-December and got my letter for the Waiting list today. I figured it was a long shot so I am pretty happy to have not been flat out rejected. Good luck to the rest that wait!

Congrats Azadi and hp540!!!

Still waiting over here...

just curious if anyone got an interview invite recently... i was complete Nov. 12th and still waiting for an invitation. when i called the office, they said my file was being currently reviewed 😕

I think I was complete back in October. No word at all. I just called again, and they said all they can say is to make sure that you keep your mailing address updated. I was worried because mine has changed. They said if they send you something they expect a response from, you will get an e-mail if they don't hear from you. This concerned me because I thought maybe they had sent me a rejection letter to my old address that I'll never get, and I'll never get closure.

Anyway, the lady was nice enough to tell me that she doesn't think I've been sent anything, yet. But I don't even know if they're sending out pre-interview rejections, yet. Here's to still having hope for one more interview...

I'm pretty sure I was the only one from MN that day. 🙂 Yes the waiting is definately hard. In all honesty I don't really think I have a shot at getting in, but I'm just anxious to know the final decision. If you get word, please post ok? Good luck to you!!

Just like yourself, I got the dreaded waitlist letter today. Can't say that I'm surprised....my GPA is pretty average and MCAT is pretty pedestrian for Dartmouth.

I was complete back in August and just got an interview invite last week! Not sure why they decided to pull my file back out but I'm glad they did! So, looks like there is still hope!

I just received an interview invite in the mail on Friday. I was complete end of Oct/early Nov.
Good luck!

sweet! this gives me a sliver of hope 🙂

Hey, for those who have been accepted and think you are going to DMS, I set up a facebook group "Dartmouth Medical School 2012". Feel free to join the group. I want to start to get to know everybody.

Seems like the group wasn't created successfully.

Hi everyone. First time poster. I had a quick question. I too was put on the waitlist and was so beside myself that I don't know where I put the letter with all the information. Can someone be so kind as to tell me if I'm supposed to do (if anything) to stay on the waitlist or if I'm supposed to forward any additional information? Thanks so much.

You don't have to do anything yet. Later on in the spring they will send another letter that you shouldn't lose because there will be a postcard in it. You have to return the postcard if you want to stay on the waitlist.

anyone know if Dartmouth's acceptances are thick or thin envelopes?

le sigh. I wonder when they'll let me know...

A few people who interviewed with me have already gotten acceptance letters.

So it goes.

loving that K.V. reference 🙂

I'm waiting for them as well. Interviewed in October!!!

so it goes....
