It took close to 6 weeks or maybe even a little longer for me to receive an interview. I wasn't expecting it because they took so long but Im flying out tomorrow! Hang in there! no bad news is good news, remember that!

If someone (me) has an interview on the 11th of december do you think that it will be a long time until a decision is made? I would assume that the 12th or 19th is the last week of work for the admissions staff...

oohh...i didnt even think about that. you're probably on to something, I would guess that it would take a while. BUT do ADCOMS get the entire winter break off too?? it seems like they might still work even though students are on break, so there would only be at max a week long blip in the decision process if that was the case..

Hey! I was wondering if anybody knows if it is possible to do third and forth year rotations in Ontario? According to DMU's website, there is a rotation in Edmonton, but is that all? Is it possible to arrange a rotation in Ontario? Input is appreciated.

It's my understanding that you can do clinical rotations anywhere as long as DMU believes you'll be getting a quality education through that hospital. I've spoken with quite a few DMU people about this (including my interviewers). Besides a few rotations that you have to do in Des Moines, I think you could potentially go anywhere. I hope this is the case, because it was a major selling point for me. I'd like to do some rotations in Wisconsin and Michigan and abroad. Those clinicals are also meant to help you make connections for residency programs, so I would think DMU would support you in any way they can.
I spoke with my father about rotations (he is a DMU(GPEP)grad) and SB25 is right on. He did rotations as close as Ames, IA and as far away as Cleveland, Miami and New Orleans. In fact he was accepted pre-match to internal medicine at Cleveland Clinic as a result of his time there and the variety of locations was a major plus according to him

If I can do rotations anywhere I can get it arranged, that would be absolutely AWESOME! I will definitely ask at my interview in a couple of weeks!
Let's just clear a few things up about rotations. Your 3rd year you CANNOT go wherever you want. You will be assigned, via lottery system, to a region (Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, St. Louis). Within your region, you will have a lottery for a specific city/hospital. If you stay in Des Moines, you will rotate at various hospitals in the area. Otherwise, you will be stationed at a single hospital (few exceptions) within a city in the region you were assigned via lottery. 99% of people get their first two picks for region (Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, etc...).
Fourth year, you can go anywhere you want as long as the Clinical Affairs office can approve the site. You are required to do 8 weeks of FM or community med, but this can be anywhere. The rest of fourth year is free for electives.

Alright, although I've gotten into other schools, I think DMU is my #1 choice as of now.
I absolutely loved the school and people were all really friendly.
I never in my wildest dreams ever thought about living in Iowa (From Cinci, OH) but after interviewing there, I'm getting pretty excited.
I have an interview at CCOM in 2 weeks and unless they really dazzle me, I'll be coming to Des Moines, Iowa for sure.
Exciting stuff...

Just to add to this: you CAN use your elective rotations in third year (you get 8 weeks) to go ANYWHERE that is approved by DMU. Same is true of 4th year.
I had to apply for the two I received and found out before the start of my third year (applied second semester of my second year).
I just received my interview invite! I'm super excited to see the school that everyone is raving about!
wow, I just had my interview and I was blown away...I could go on forever about how awesome this school was...I reallllly hope they want me cause its definitely my new #1!!!!

Not that I have seen, although I know Loyola has a similar SIM lab and UC Irvine is building a similar thing in their med education building which opens next year. Either way, its very top of the line technology that most schools do not have!

I ask because I was invited to interview by TUCOM - CA earlier this week, and the nearest date available was 1/26... I'm afraid that the door is closing on my chances at DMU if I have to wait another month to hear about an interview.

know about what you have been involved in and prepare for a pretty relaxed and reasonable interview! Everyone who came out of the interviews seemed to enjoy it, they pick good faculty members to conduct them.
Hey can anyone who has interviewed here this season comment on the COA that they were given for OOS not living with parents (if that is even part of their COA breakdown).

Hmmmm ya CCOM's COA for off campus is estimated at 72K and 67K for on campus but from what I hear it doesn't cost that much more to live off campus and can be pretty much the same.
So for all intensive purposes 67K and thats about the same for AZCOM. Do you know what Westerns COA was?

The interview was very relaxed and conversational. Can't say I was blindsided by any questions. All were pretty standard. I think they really try to make you as relaxed as possible so they can get a more true feeling of who you are. If you're all up-tight and nervous you're not going to be portraying the real you, which totally defeats the purpose of the interview. They want to find people who are going to succeed in and contribute to their program and the student body. Take a deep breath, speak slowly and thoughtfully, and express a genuine interest in the school and what it has to offer. Smiling doesn't hurt either.

So I'm reading over the instructions for the secondary and it says, "...the following letters will not count toward completion of your admission file:
- chiropractors, veterinarians or dentists"
it should probably be ok as an instructor letter, I think they just want to make it clear that these professions can not contribute to the physician letter...calling about this would probably be wise though
I called this morning and the (very friendly) person I spoke with said a LoR from a chiropractor is fine as long as it clearly states in the letter that they taught you in class. It is unlikely that anyone else will have this problem but I thought just in case I would let everyone know that it's ok. And thanks for the input DoktorB. 🙂

haha yeah, I knew I was accepted back in september, but they just sent out the "official" letter via snail mail. Yeah, the sticker is sweet and will be on my car pretty soon 😎!!
I was excited to hear about the sticker too! They sent it to my home in San Diego, so I let my dad open it and told me what was in side. I'm gald i didn't buy a sticker at the bookstore, i woulda been upset

haha! I know, every school Ive liked ive been tempted to buy a sticker or something but its just too presumptuous.

I haven't paid my deposit yet or anything. The letter is dated the day I was accepted (September 25) and I just received it today in the mail. I actually got a letter from the associate dean a couple days ago, before the actual acceptance letter so who knows 🙂 you will get your sticker no worries!!!
Yea, they send the official letter (along with the sticker) a few months after the email. It doesnt matter whether youve paid the deposit yet or not.
