I'm trying to get an idea of whats going on with Drew and the application process. I thought that, to help us all out, I would post a survey so that maybe we can get an idea what our chances are. So, if you will, please enter the date that you were interviewed on, and your status (accepted, rejected, waitlisted, or still waiting to hear) as of now. Keep in mind that supposedly they only interview 200 applicants, and they accept approximately 48 for a class of 24.

March 2nd- Still waiting

March 2nd- Still waiting•••••ok, I'll play,
I interviewed April 5th-still waiting!

La Feria & Co

The 200 invites and 48 accepted sounds right.

Interview date: 2/16/02
Status: Accepted (Letter dated 4/17/02)

On 4/6/02 I spoke with several Drew students, and was informed that they were going to review applications on 4/9/02. (As of that weekend, nine students were sent acceptance letters.) I am assuming that my file was send to and reviewed by UCLA in March, then returned to the Drew office in April. It took 8 weeks from interview to acceptance letter. I hope this information helps.

Good luck and may the Force be with you.

congratulations jedi, that is really sweet!

as i was also at the feb 16th interview date and haven't recieved jack, i imagine that i am either waitlisted or rejected, which really sucks, but i guess that is how it goes.

i called today and said that i wanted to know if something got lost in the mail, ie "you told me six weeks and we are working on 11, what a crock-o-****".

anyhow, she says that i should recieve "correspondence" today or tomorrow. seeing how i am quite cynical at this point, i doubt it will hear by then and i seriously doubt it will be good news, but i will be sure to keep you'll informed. best of luck.

Interviewed 3/16- still waiting

Hi Jedi,

First of all congratulations! That's a great accomplishment. You mentioned that about 9 people got accepted...is this the total number of acceptances so far? If so, I guess there's still some hope.

hey all,

i am officially on the alternate list, which definitely brings some mixed emotions. when i got that thin envelope yesterday i was pretty nervous, so at least it wasn't a rejection.

anyhow, when i was at my interview they told us that most people get put on the waitlist first and then are pulled from that, so even though the class has already been filled, at least once, they still have a lot of people to accept (ie 24 spaces, aprox 48 acceptances).

best of luck all.

Congrats Jedi!!
Good luck JDub! I have a question though, from reading you last message I got the impression that they have already filled the class, is that right? So all that's left is waitlist positions?Uh oh.

every med-school had to fill their class by march 29th or so, but that doesn't mean that people necesarily will be put on a waitlist before acceptance. they accept more people when spots open up and some people will still be fortunate enough to get accepted before being put on a waitlist.

just remember that they accept somewhere around 48 people every year. so there are most likely quite a few spots open still.

WELL, I hope he wasn't lying to us late interviewees..... 😕

Thank you all for your well wishes. I will matriculate into the Drew Program. I just returned from the Recruitment Weekend at UCLA, and meet lots of students who are in the UCLA program. They are all great people. However, I did not run into other Drew students. There were posts asking about acceptances. I stated earlier that as of 4/6/02 there were 9 total acceptances. By the week of 4/17/02, another set of acceptance letters were sent. I have no idea how many were sent, but another batch of acceptances will be sent out by the end of next week. If you have other questions, let me know. I plan to return to Los Angeles later on this week to speak with staff at UCLA and Drew.

I hope I can join you next year as well....congrats again!

interviewed on 2/26 (i think), got put on the wait list 2 weeks later. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Jedi,

Great decision about matriculating at Drew. So, how was the weekend at UCLA? Was it really informative or did it just serve as an icebreaker?

just got a little info i thought i would share with you guys. I just ran into this guy that i know who is a 3rd year at Drew and is on the admissions committee. He told me that Drew has sent out 23 of the 50 acceptances, and that they are really really behind. Out of those 23 only 12 have confirmed their acceptance. 😛 He said that at this point they're not taking any more secondaries, and i think he said that they have one more batch of interviews and their done. Oh, and he said that the waitlist IS ranked, so it depends were you are is how soon you can expect to know where you are. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! this wait is killing me!! hope this info helped.

i meant to say that it depends where you are on the waitlist is how soon you can expect to hear form them. If only they would tell you where you are on the list!

Thanks for the info weca. It makes me feel better, even though I still don't have a clue re: my status!

just a thought . . .

it seems pretty cruel that they won't give out the rankings on the waitlist and that they don't want us to call about it. what is the deal? why leave us in suspence? stuff like that just seems pointless and makes the process even harder, or is it just me?

anyone heard anything new from Drew? I am hoping that I'll get something in the mail by this weekend.

The weekend served both purposes, and did so in entertaining fashion. There was plenty of time to talk to the other matriculants and to current students, and various sessions spread throughout to tour facilities in the hospital and to get a feel for what PBL would be like. Of course, there was a fancy catered lunch served as the Dean spoke candidly with the entering students. The entire staff was happy to talk about the resources and opportunites available to UCLA students. At one point, one of the professors giving a talk joked by welcoming the new students to "the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry". Most importantly, I found a group of incredible people who I am glad to call my new friends and classmates.

so has anybody else heard anthing about DREW? After next week, it will be my 6th week, and I am getting really nervous....bump!

I posted before. Interview 3/26...just received a letter that I am on the alternate list dated 5/8. I hope they really do pull a lot of people from the waitlist. Maybe after May 15th? What do you guys think?

hello people,
I was wondering, for those of you who have been accepted already and being put on the alternate list, can you please post your stats (GPA, MCAT) and significant extra curriculars that you'll like to share? I just want to see if DREW is one of those schools that accepts big numbers first, then moves down the list. I'll start
GPA 3.4 (science GPA 3.1)
MCAT 26 (6, 10, 10)
ECs: President of Pre-med club, founder of non-profit organization, eng-span translator at community clinic in underserved areas, and many more....

nothing special about my stats, but here they go:

gpa 3.51 (science 3.44), i have an upward trend in my gpa, i went from a 3.28 after freshman year up to my 3.51 overall in my fifth year.

mcat 32Q

ran for div 1 x-country and track for a few years until i hurt my knee, i also worked 15-25 hr/wk for most of college.

i volunteered in an er for 1.5 years and i also lived in ecuador for an academic school year (8-months). while i was there i volunteered in a hospice type setting for about 3 months, where i put in about 30 hours a week.

i substitute teach and work in a restuarant right now. i am also a white male.

that is my app in a nutshell. best of luck all.

I'm still waiting post-interview to hear from Drew. Anyone hear anything lately?

thanks for the complement dr. don. if they interviewed you they see something "cool" in your file, most likely many things, so i won't worry about that.

i just wanted to keep this up towards the front. best of luck all.

a-waiting i will go, i a-waiting i will go . . . 🙄

I posted this on my thread titled NEED HONEST OPINION, but I figure I post it here,

THIS IS THE LATEST NEWS on UCLA/DREW...THERE ARE NO MORE INTERVIEWS GIVEN, EVERYONE HAS BEEN REVIEWED and will receive something in the mail within the next two weeks...I will probably receive something this week because I interviewed in early april, so people this is it....I'll keep everyone updated, take care

I interviewed mid Feb and am on the waitlist... i wonder how long they'll make us wait.

Weca,
Did you recently run into your friend at Drew? I remember that he gave you very useful info last time. Any news on if all the acceptance letters have been sent out? Thanx

Dr PC,
i have ran into my friend again, so i don't know about letters being sent out. If i hear anything i'll post it as fast as my fingers can type!

For those who were accepted, how long after the interview were you notified?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by GrnLt:

For those of you who have applied/been accepted to Drew, can you please tell me why you chose Drew?

although i haven't been accepted yet . . . the whole reason i applied to this program, and hopefully the reason that others applied as well, is because of drew's mission, which is to train doctors to work in, and with underserved communities. for me, i especially want to work in an inner city hospital, so i couldn't imagine getting better training anywhere else. oh yeah, cali is pretty nice too.

Attending Drew was decided upon when I began serving as a volunteer at a county hospital. Until that point, I had not realized why I wanted to go into medicine other than the fact that I liked science. Working with patients from indigent populations gave me a sense of purpose and satisfaction in my life (something I had not experienced previously while volunteering at private hospitals). In meeting their students, I found that Drew was fostering the future of health care leadership. Drew students participate in numerous community service events and research because both Drew and UCLA campuses are available to them. Moreover, Drew students benefit from having an office of student affairs at BOTH campuses to assist them if they need guidance or access to financial resources.

Does anyone know when Drew starts? I think they have a summer program for the Drew students before entering the UCLA program, but I am not sure.

Prologue at the UCLA campus begins on July 21st.
There is a break from July 27th to August 4th.
Then the training beings.
