Dublin 2024-2025 (c/o 2029 hopefuls)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I will say, last year my experience with UCD was really disheartening. They were extremely unorganized. I was pulled off of the waitlist 5 days before classes started, as an international student I just couldn’t do it.
I think I had sent 8-10 emails prior asking for any update
I had the exact same experience. Took them months to finally let all applicants know their status after interviews. They also don’t interview all applicants they accept so they interviewed like 350 (don’t quote this number) and then accepted people without even interviewing them so it was hard to even gauge our expectations.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANYONE INTERVIEWING

In the next day or so you will receive an email from the admissions office that has a link to a video. WATCH THE VIDEO. I was informed (and asked to pass on to you) that you will be asked about stuff from the video in your interview.

Best of luck to everyone who is interviewing. It really is a low key interview, and the team heading over are wonderful people.

I totally agree that they were extremely unorganized as I was pulled off the waitlist 9 days before classes started. Even though I am an international student I was able to pull things together and go. I can't imagine a school that fit me better then UCD now that I am in.

Has anyone else not heard anything at all from them? I check my portal and see nothing. I submitted close to the deadline and it appears as though they haven’t started reviewing my file yet.

I haven’t heard anything either! I wouldn’t worry too much about the status on the portal because some people who received interview invites said their status hadn’t changed from “submitted”.

Well that's some important information. Is this link getting sent to the email we have linked to our VMCAS application?

It is being sent to the email that you put on your application with them. When I spoke with her this evening, she said that she was going to send the email out tomorrow, but I know that she is traveling to New York, and things are a bit hectic.

Thanks for letting us know!

I understand the frustration, and I believe that a lot of the issue is cultural.

I am a 3rd year mature student at UCD. I moved over with my family, and my husband got a job here. We have had a similar experiences with every aspect of our transition (including the UCD admissions process). You get used to it, and I am very happy with my choice of UCD.

I know for a fact that the admissions people do care about your feelings and experience. Would anyone object to my passing some bits of everyone’s concerns on to one of my friends who is very involved in the admissions process? I will not include anything that could possibly be identifiable. I know that she will do her best to improve things if she has the details of the concerns. I already mentioned to her that there are concerns, and she really wants to improve the experience for you. She was the one who asked me to let you know about the video, so no one was blind sided.

Hi, does anyone know if the interview is open or closed application?
I recently did my interview. They had my application out too, but oddly enough they didn't ask anything specific from it. The things I was asked were more general questions if I was prepared for living abroad, the costs of vet school, etc.

Does anyone know what the dress code is for the information session? Like are nice jeans and a sweater too informal or is that ok?

That’s what I was going to wear

for anyone else who have not yet received an interview invite from Dublin, heres what they responded with when I asked for an update:

so essentially, more waiting 😖

Are the interviews business formal? would a sports coat be sufficient?

Hello all!! I have my interview tomorrow at 9:30 am in San Francisco. Does anyone that has recently been interviewed in San Francisco have any tips for this interview? as I am pretty nervous! I’ve practiced a lot and done good research on the school but I’m still worried, so please any tips on what they ask/ what I should prepare for are appreciated! Good luck you all throughout this process!! Looking forward to meeting any of you I can at the info session tomorrow!

Good luck at your interview! I just interviewed in NYC this week. Everyone was super nice and welcoming. The questions were general, about your general experience and knowledge of the program. It is open file. You will do great!

Has anyone who didn't receive an interview invite for January heard anything new from Dublin?

Does anybody know when we'll hear back regarding the status of our application after interview?

I heard from Margaret (admissions communication point) at my interview (early january) that we will likely hear about our admission decisions by March-ish. She didn't say if that meant the beginning of March or the end. She said it was due to them having to conduct interviews In Europe after they wrapped up interviews in North America. I'm going to email soon and see if we can get a better idea of when we will know! Fingers crossed for everybody during this stressful time whilst we all await decisions. I've already received 2 no's, just got the second no yesterday.. Dublin is my last chance this cycle.

Here's to hoping! until we know... where's everybody from and what kind of vet are you going to be? ◡̈

I find it odd how varied our dates are. For me, they told me late March or April after I finished my interview in New York. Way later than everybody else
In an email from 1/13/25, Margaret told me that "updates will start being received in March."

Agreed.

I applied early in the fall. On Dec 13th, they cancelled my application (status was “under review”) to the 5-year program and told me to apply for the graduate entry (4-year) program. So I did it the same day, Dec 13th. Dec 13th is technically after the application deadline but they assured me it would not be an issue since it was coming from their end.

I’m from Canada so logically, I should’ve been interviewed with the NA batch in early Jan. I called them on Jan 8th for an update since the interviews were actively happening in NYC at that time. They basically told me not to stress about it and that my application won’t be affected because THEY cancelled it, and to wait a week or two for an update. They told me they do a 2nd batch of NA interviews and sometimes offer admission without interview at all, but that I’d have an update “shortly.”

It’s now end of Jan and I haven’t heard anything at all, and my status is still “submitted” on their portal. I have genuinely NO idea when (or if) I will ever hear from them lol. It seems a bit all over the place based on everyone’s posts in here.

I also applied to the 4-year, but without that weird cancelling (sorry thats happening to you). I hadn't heard anything from them for a while so finally emailed earlier this month. They told me that some applicants are granted admission without having interviewed which may be the case for my application and I would hear in March. My portal didn't update from "submitted" to "under review" until yesterday (I submitted the supplemental no later than October)

Hmm interesting, thanks for the info. I’ll follow up with them again next week if I haven’t heard anything just to be safe. But it sounds like I’ll probably hear something in March! If my app would change from “submitted” I’d feel a little better, but it feels a bit endless without ANY movement. Sigh

I hope you get an update soon & good luck with your application!

I also haven't heard anything and my application is still just "submitted". I emailed them yesterday for an update so I'll let you know when I hear back 🙂

“I plan to send out an email to everyone this week to let them know when they expect to have an update on their application. Please know no offers have been made and the first offers will not go out until the end of next week at the earliest and this process may take up to [emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]-[emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]] weeks as all applications need to be referred back to UCD Global, who issue the offers for the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Please keep an eye out for an email from [email protected]

lol didn’t even notice it did that, sorry. Two to three weeks. I think it’s when I type numbers because I had to edit this and spell it out.

So does this mean the offers going out next week are only for those who interviewed in person? The second paragraph makes it sound that way, but I might just be reading too much into it lol
I’m not 100% sure but I believe so. I have also heard that decisions are sent out in waves. I have seen on previous threads that there have been a few people in the past years get accepted without interviews and based on stats alone.
