sorry, just had to emphasize, that after 26 days, we will be done with basic science lecture learning for the rest of our lives...... 😵

Hahaha I think us starting a countdown on the Duke thread in Pre-Allo would be a bit ridiculous. Can we also talk about how much work we have to do in those 26 days? Ugh.
 
Metro 8 is a schmaltzy steakhouse on 9th street, sort of near Jimmy John's. Apparently Argentinian-influenced, and has dulce de leche on the menu for dessert. Nummers. Sounds QUITE delicious to me; would love to go there for actual food, not just a night out with, you know, everyone we know.
 
Not that you 2010s care, but I just noticed that our 2011 classes end on my birthday next year. Quite the treat.

It is like 6 weeks, right guys? It is pass/fail...which means pass. You would have to try pretty hard to fail it.

EDIT: Oh, and try to chill during block 1. By the end of block 4 you'll realize how silly the beginning of the year is. I basically took this weekend off [well, I wrote a paper, went shopping for a new bed, got refitted for my wedding tux, etc]....anyway, I feel guilty for taking so much time off in the face of all the crap I have to do.... so take it from all of us when we say CHILL OUT IN THE BEGINNING since it goes uphill....

Yeah I LOVE how tickets are $5, and that you get ONE FREE DRINK with that... ummm we pay howmanyfreakingdollarsayear and we can't even have a free party? I hope it's at least a mixed drink, not like the semi where we could only have beer or wine (or so I heard...).
 
What cell phone service do you current Dukies have? Anybody have T-mobile?
 
Verizon; works pretty well practically anywhere and I sometimes even get service in the amphitheatre (aka bunker)

Tmobile is pretty terrible around Durham (or at least it was when I got here last July). There are no Tmobile towers, so youre always roaming on whatever you can pick up, which isnt much. Verizon is probably the most popular, followed by Sprint. However, I did find out that if you have a Tmobile contract and you move somewhere that they dont have service, they will let you terminate your service early without any additional fee. You just have to call them about it and fax them a copy of your lease.
 
I have Cingular. It works pretty well here. However, I only have it since my dad has had a cingular contract since the 80's, so it is pretty cheap for me to have my phone through him.

OK so here's the deal. I don't know anything so can someone who is more informed plz explain... which one of the dates on that academic calendar means white coat ceremony... HAHA... I'm such a n00b. I mean, the way I read it, it looks like our white coat ceremony is in March... is that when it is??????????? I might die before then :scared:

I think it's listed as AOA Day. It's the Friday of your orientation week (Aug 3).

I was relieved it was early too, but mainly because that was the first time I was assured the whole acceptance thing wasn't some sort of big mistake. Sometimes I still feel that way about undergrad, though, despite the fact I already have my diploma...

Some say I'm a pessimist, but I prefer pessimistic realist.

I still think it's a mistake. I called FinAid this morning to get some info, and I was sorta waiting for her to be like... "We have no record of you. You are pathetic. Pretending to get into Duke. Loser!" :hang up:

First year doesn't really matter... Verizon is the only one that works in the Amphitheatre, and then it's sporadic. You'll have to go out to the courtyard for anything else.

Verizon has repeaters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_repeater) inside the main hospital, but no other providers have that. In Duke South, I think there are some of these repeaters in clinical areas, but I don't know that they're in CTL. You can get service virtually anywhere in the hospital or the research buildings. With other providers, including T-mobile, you have to be near windows in most of the buildings.

So last year the laptops were stored in our CTL lockers (central teaching lab - every student has a desk and a locker above it). You just have to figure out which desk is yours and get the combo for the lock, which they arranged for us to do on Wednesday of orientation week. However, I think some people picked theirs up before Wednesday - they just got their locker combo early and took the comp. Not sure how.

Both... imagine my disappointment when I heard that Burnsie had pregnant 14 year olds in clinic - I could have a 10 year old by now!

What else are they going to do with themselves these next few months? Sure there's our criminal background checks which might prove entertaining to read, but they've got another month before those come in. :meanie:

Ryan, in that email that they sent out to the WLers, they said that the list isn't ranked. Rather, they are going to take people off the WL who fit basically the same type of person who has given up there spot in the class. So if you know any BYU ppl who are in the Duke class as of right now... 😀 :idea: :banana:
