ECU/UNC acceptance/rejection thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The fact that ECU is making you guys wait so long is a good thing. Bc when they dont like you the rejection comes quickly (6 wks). When I interviewed last Feb, Peden told me that only half the class was full so there are still seats for those interviewing late. And alot of people do get in from the waitlist. Best of luck!

Last year I was waitlisted at ECU... this year I got the flat out rejection. Dated April 26th, 2004. I just don't understand this process. It isn't like I did anything to hurt my application. In fact, I increased my clinical experience by over 750 hours, I participated in UNC's MED program and finished in the top 15, and I work in a research lab at Duke. Talk about a shocker. p.s. my stats are above avg at ECU in all categories. Good luck to all waiting. Just as random as it is to get rejected, it is just as random to get accepted.

This is my 4th time around at ECU. I posted my interview feedback for you all on SDN. I've been accepted at some other schools but ECU was my first choice. So far I have not heard a peep out of them, but I know it takes a long long time for them to make up their mind.

Don't give up hope if you are waiting, I know ECU is a good school to goto and getting in is by far the worst part.

Just for reference, I've jumped through every hoop they've asked me too including taking the MCAT 3 times. I am happy that I have my choice of schools to goto this time around but part of me will always wonder what it would have been like to goto ECU!

Good luck to all of ya and if ya wanna vent about the application process. Feel free to PM me 🙂

Best Regards,
Richie

NC schools are very strange in who they accept or reject. I got rejected from UNC earlier this week, while I was waitlisted when I applied there two years ago after undergrad (and now I have a MPH from Yale!!). Anyway, the whole med school thing is a crapshoot anyway.

I am anxious to hear from ECU, although I know I am not going there. I just want to hear a final decision. Good luck to all those that are still waiting to hear, and I hope everyone gets into the school of their choice (like me...GO GWU!!)

ECU news--if you haven't heard from ECU yet, most likely you're not getting rejected at this point. And, I believe, we should all hear by the 2nd week of May. I hope I get accepted as it's an awesome school!! Best of luck to everyone...hopefully you have good news coming soon.

does that mean we are probably getting an acceptance or waitlist franklin?
That would be awesome.

If Guamguy just got a rejection letter, I'm not satisfied with any news until I receive it personally. I would love to believe that I'm accepted or waitlisted, but I can only hope. Good luck all.

Good luck to all you hopeful pirates...ARRRRR! 😀

UNC News: Supposedly, "UNC accepted close to half of the waitlist last year." Good luck to all waiting.

letter dated: 4/26.

guess you can still get rejected at this point.

// this whole app process is a crapshoot

Quick Question...

What kind of grading does ECU do? Also, how's the technology in their school? Do they have powerpoint presentaions?

Wolfpack Represent!

I'm unsure about the grading scale at ECU, but the technology seems to be quite good. Each lecture hall has laptop stations with wireless access. Also each lecture is already prepared on Powerpoint and accessible during class for following along on your computer. The powerpoints also include video and graphic presentations included with them. It seemed impressive to me, but I may have a lack of exposure to other schools.

Grades are A, B, C, and F. You are allowed to redo one F per year over the summer. I hope I'm right, this is what my notes indicate.

We are on A, B, C, F grading scale which is the same as Honors, High Pass, or Pass at some other schools. Lectures are mostly powerpoint and all the information is on the web. Wireless access all over the school. All M1 required to have the laptop and 2nd years the pda. Best of luck!

Great, thanks! The technology sounds similar to UNC, in which all info is online and students use their laptops during the lecture.

I know ecu is very primary care oriented. Do you guys know approximately how many of their grads go to non-primary care specialties and what are some of their best matches. Thanks

I am still waiting to hear from ECU, although their decision on me is not going to influence my decision at all. I know ECU is not the right place for me.

good luck to all those who are still waiting. ECU takes forever it seems, I really don't understand why??

Anyone willing to call ECU and find out the latest? I wonder if the committee has met and made their final decisions. Anyway, anyone feeling brave?? If you do call, please share what you hear (thanks). And best of luck to all that have made it this far, I don't think it's easy to even make it to this point.

PS. I already called last week and was told they're going to be meeting again soon, so I've used up my phone call privileges for a while.

Hey...I am with you guys! Still no word from ECU although it is so late at the point that there is no way I would be going there! Now it is just annoying!

UNC Class of 2008!!!

I haven't called either, even though I'm dying to know. I may call at the end of this week if I don't hear anything.

Dropped by the admissions office today, BJ indicated that they hoped to get letters out soon. Of course it was a sanitary noncommital response. I dug out my waitlist letter from last year, it was dated May 8. Hope the April 26 assasinations are over.... 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

Hope you guys hear soon, so we can get a C/0 2008 thread rolling

M

Thanks MLG for trying to find out for us. Any news helps with my Sanity

Still waiting for ECU as well, just out of curiosity (I paid too much money not to know what these schools thought of me). Last year they rejected me around now, so it's not a fluke that they're waiting so long again this year.

Good luck to all the ECU hopefulls!! I didn't hear until May 15th (give or take) last year, and then I was waitlisted. I was off the waitlist in under 10 days.

Good luck!!! I know the waiting sucks.

What's gonna cause a higher level of apprehension? The moment you received your MCAT results, or this Saturday (my predicition) when you open your mailbox and find either a small envelope or big envelope from ECU.

I'm gonna go with the ECU letter, as I really want to go there and have been waiting since September 26th. Let's hope all the SDNers get good news!

fyi, my acceptance letter came in a small envelope. so don't go and get all crushed if you see a thin envelope when you open your mailbox. GOOD LUCK!!!

For those waitlisted at UNC and accepted elsewhere......

Are you going to UNC if you get accepted?

I am one with 0 acceptances and UNC is my #1.

You're not alone man. Hang in there and good luck!

Well I got the nerve up and called today. I talked to Sue and she said the letters were sent out today (5/6/04). She said we can start stalking the mailman beginning tomorrow. Good luck to everyone.

Hey emineunc

I got waitlisted at UNC but I don't think I'm going to stay on it. I didn't get the letter until THIS WEEK, so I'd already given up hope. Good luck on the waitlist!

Good luck Guys!!!!!!!!!!!

good luck to those for ECU!! 😀

hey twinklz,
sorry about not hearing untill now. good luck at WFU. 🙂

Thanks TLcoolJack...very helpful info. You took one for the team! Your bravery deserves an acceptance!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys.

Hopefully none of us waiting need this answer, but just in case.

PhdMed07 and Sweet Tea:

If we are waitlisted (WLed), what are our chances? I know that Sweet Tea got in last year ~1 wk after May 15. Nice work on that by the way Sweet Tea. However, what about anyone else? My SDN research shows some who got the old ECU WL didn't get in. So, approximately how many MS1's right now at ECU got in from the WL? I can only think of two that I know (which of course is limited), and one of those is Sweet Tea. Also, how many people are on the waitlist total? I've heard 50-60 and I've heard 20. Big difference in those two numbers, which set is more accurate? What is the latest date we can see movement?

I know, I know, why think about the negative right now (I'm not even thinking about a flatout no < 🙁 >). But, for those of us who do get a WL, we're gonna have questions and if the answers are already right here that would be very helpful!

Sweet Tea and PhdMed07 if you can answer any of these questions it would be very helpful, thank you in advance. Good luck everyone and have a great weekend...

Until the mailbox opens,
franklinthedog

Franklinthedog, Im keeping my fingers crossed for u guys. Alot of people do get in off the waitlist. In a class with only 72, Id say at least 15 end up coming in off the waitlist. Unfortunately the waitlist is 50+ and how they pick anyone off it is anyones guess. The best thing anyone can do is send an immediate letter of intent/update letter. But think positive, remember the acceptance letter is thick, the waitlist letter is thin. Since you guys having been waiting forever, most likely its going to be one or the other. Good luck!

ECU Med 07

Oh and movement begins May 15th and the latest day is the 1st day of orientation. One of my classmates got called off the waitlist on the first day of orientation.

ECU Med 07

I know that guy, he had a neat story about how Peden called him up and he made them wait 20 minutes for an answer! That guy is the man hehe 👍

ECU Applicant #1045 providing the comic relief,

Richie

Got the dreaded answer today. Came in a thin envelope. I guess it is on to next year. signing off.

I still really want to go there, but now it's more waiting. Come on Good Karma, come my way!!!

I hope this info helps you guys, I live in Charlotte by the way.

What happened with the rest of you?

Have a great weekend,
franklinthedog

Good luck Franklin, keep your head up, you are still in the game, nothing's changed.

Good luck to all the incoming Pirate docs. You'll absolutely love your time at ECU. I honestly believe it's as laid back as med school can be.

Don't worry much about the primary care mission of the school. No matter what you do it can't hurt to have a strong background in general medicine.
As you saw from earlier in the thread we had an orthopod posting. Our most recent match had matches in some top gen. surgery programs, radiology, urology, one Neurosurgery and a huge amount in Emergency medicine. There will be plenty of people that match in Family, IM, med-peds, etc but you are not limited by our primary care focus.
